Thanks for the link Moonboy:
The stats for the last 10 years in Champions League say: Spain: 3 winners 1 runner up England: 2 winners 4 runner up Italy: 2 winners 2 runner up The stats for the last 10 years in Europe League/UEFA Cup say: Spain: 4 winners 2 runner up England: 1 winner 3 runner up Italy: 0 winner 0 runner up I think it's safe to say that Spain are the best in recent history....that's no surpise! But in fact the 3 countries are very close when it comes to the European winners/runners up (all 3 competitions) of all time: Italy 28 24 Spain 25 20 England 25 16 If we remove all the stats for the 2 best teams from each country (Real Madrid-Barca-Man Utd-Liverpool-Milan-Juve) then it looks like this (all competitions): Spain: 7 10 England 13 12 Italy 13 13 Then you can take the stats for number of teams in the quarter finals of the Champions League for the past 10 years: England: 24 Spain: 18 Italy: 14 England are the only country which have had at least 1 team in the quarter finals each of the past 10 years! And 2 times they have had 4 teams in the quarter finals. Manchester United have been in most (7) quarter finals in the past 10 years. Arsenal and Barca (and Bayern Munich) have been in 6, Liverpool, Chelsea and Milan in 5. These last facts support my theory that most English teams have gone far in Champions League..... |

A very deserved victory for Spain against Portugal in the last of the 1/8 finals! Portugal played very defensive and their only attacking play was on the counter. I am hoping Spain will win the tournament...they have great players and are a joy to watch!!!
