now that I've heard Murray Head's version of "Say it ain't so, Joe"... I agree with you all. Marian sings it so so so so so much better! His voice wonderfully fits into the song! This is the best cover ever!

and now I'm posting here again. cos I've heard "roll away the stone" and "5 years". I found that Marian's covers are very similar to originals in both cases. Though I like Marian's version of RATS more than original. And I like both 5years...

I haven't heard either Marian's or Murray Head's version of 'Say It Ain't So, Joe', but I have heard the cover version by Roger Daltrey. In any case, it's a song that I like.

'Five Years' - Marian sounds so much like Bowie on this! At first I thought it was Bowie!

'RATS' - I love Mott The Hoople so what can I say?

I have heard the original version of Roll Away the Stone (RATS rofl!!!) and Marian's version is so much better. Can't comment on the others.

I don't see why you think Murray Head's version of Say it ain't so is so bad. I think it's got another character than Marians interpetation, but it's not bad at all!

Take care

I agree, but then Murray Head did write it and Marian didn't and maybe the difference in interpretation is down to a lot of that.

well, the thing about Murray Head's version its not that its BAD its just that everything from the instrumentation to Marian's voice just sounds better to me and I suppose to many of us here.

oh yeah, I guess we can include now George Harrisons - Something right? I was never a big Beatles fan, but I think that Marian's version is quite comparible to the original in fact, in parts he sort of sounds like Harrison don't you think?

I absolutely love Marian's version of 'Something'! His voice is so right for that song! It's a song I have always loved and for Marian to sing it is the icing on the cake for me!

Marian also does it far better than Shirley Bassey ever could!!!!

Before you judge me, make sure you're perfect.
