It's probably not AV, but rather the company that is bringing those artists to Cancún... the destination must be luring, and they seem to be serious. They're also bringing different artists to a different hotel each time.

so is there ever a reason given why AV hasn't been to the U.S. since the SLC shows? or have they been and I've been too out of the loop to know about it?

I don't know any actual details about it.
All I know is that one doesn't have to be a guest at the hotel to attend the show. The tickets will be sold through Ticketmaster Mexico and as far as I know, they aren't available yet.

Anyway, don't worry, I think all information is and will be available in English (also ticket sales). :)

And about your second question: they don't seem to have played in the US after SLC, and the reason, I think, would be the same the band gives to anyone asking them to play in their country: "as soon as there are businesspeople who offer a reasonable agreement, we'll play there".

Your definitely right, Malila! Several months ago, I emailed Claudia and asked if AV will ever come and tour in the U.S. and that's exactly what she replied. I understand the agreements have to be worth AV coming to the U.S., but there are so many AV fans in the U.S. that would love to see them! Heck, if AV ever plays again in the U.S., I'm going for sure, no matter what. I just hope that I, and the other AV fans that live in the U.S., will also get that opportunity.

Not bigger than Forever Young and Big in Japan now and then on the radio.

It's the company that is bringing "back" stars from times past, I think.

It's not really AV or its fans; otherwise, they would have come to Mexico City.
There are just businesspeople who want to bet and hire them. At the start I was worrying about a cancellation, as it's happened in Canada or South America, but these concerts are something quite different. And the company organizing them doesn't seem to invest in lots of advertising either; I knew Rick Astley had been there because he posted on his FB that he was in Cancun.
I suppose the hotel group is making up some reputation to have famous artists performing regularly, the way they do in Las Vegas.
