Lassie come home - lyric question

hello, im new to Alphaville (found them in 2018 and they have been my favorite band since) and had a question; what is the "orange paper bike." Is it just randomness that the girl's mind rode off on since she lost her full mental capcity after a bad drug trip? Any thoughts would be great, i dont know any one in person who i can talk to about it, and i love the song so much i want to understand it all if possible. Just having someone to discuss tAlphaville with gets me excited. Thxs for the conversation

Hello Husheye,
to be fair, I never understood the lyrics either, or the connection with the book/movie. Well, in the book, there indeed is a chapter that talks about a 'ghost', which is Lassie, but that may be the only similarity.

That lyric always brings me back to Syd Barrett's Bike track on Pink Floyd's First album. It's a trippy song and contains images like the track Lassie

I'm gliding in the distance and watch the world go by
An orbit full of questions, a perforated sky

Thanks for the responses. They were both helpful. I do know of the movie about the dog, and it does deal with serious themes in the background. But is the song really about the movie? I think it might just use the line "lassie come home." Again, im new to Alphaville and maybe it definetely is referencing the movie i am now learning about it. That news definetly will help me understand the lyrics better.
I also liked your thoughts that it reminds you of Pink Floyds song, because he definitely dealt with mentally insanity in his songs.

I can only suggest to look up with the Search menu, there are so many threads and posts that maybe in the depths of the forum you will find some information :)
