Must be a tourist, not yet used to the strength of Belgian beer.

Yesterday, a school bus from Keswick, near where I come from, was in a collision with a car on the same road I was stuck on in the floods 6 months ago. The driver of the car and two of the school kids on the bus were killed. One of the kids had her 16th birthday yesterday too. This is so tragic and so near to home for me. I wonder if I ever taught these kids in their primary school when I was a supply teacher? I'm so upset for their families.

My eldest son just told me that he sold his grey Honda Civic to a garage there a few weeks ago (coincidentally, the same car we were stuck in on the same road 6 months ago) and he's wondering if the car involved in the accident, which was also a grey Honda Civic, was his old car. Eerie.

EDIT: Just been reading the local newspaper online about this and found out that the girl who died, whose 16th birthday it was, came from the small town/village where I had my last teaching job in the UK. Can't find out anymore info about where she went to school (there were two schools in the town - the church one and the community one, where I was a teacher in 2003/4) but there's a good chance I taught this girl. OMG, I'm wracking my brain now! Well, I don't remember every child I've ever taught.

Kaz, I only heard about this today and I immediately thought about you, knowing Whitehaven was involved. Do let us know if you find out any more. [cry]

I read about it this morning and I wondered.
In the international press it's being interpreted as an own-goal (now that soccer jargon is in), since it adds up to the fact that the government coalition is facing a very low level of popularity these days. [boggled]
