It`s not á call to take her homewards, but to take her homewards to herself!
So I rather see a lonely frightened woman/child?, in fear of the day, of the bog world outside, hauintedby childish nightmares, wishing to evade because she seems not to find the warmth and tenderness she needs to grow. *we are waiting for the new light* |

Almost what I said as well...only thing is different is that there are too many mentions of outerspace for me to think it is just a woman trying to find her inner child...is what I think you're trying to say here...And as I have said...that was only me own interpretation of this song...I can't exactly say what was in Mr. Golds mind when he wrote this. She could be searching for that inner child yes...but maybe that inner child is on Mars...What I am trying to say is...I grew up all over the world..and most of me childhood was in another place than I am as an adult..so bits and pieces of me are in Scotland and Italy..I long to go back to those places all the time to see where I grew up...were I used to play and try to get back some of those memories that I had as a child that made me feel safe and secure...So going homewards to yourself can also be another place or even another time...There is too much in this universe that is NOT parallel to our own thinking

Marian once said that Carol Masters is about a girl (Carol Masters) who lives in a home for psychic ill people and every night she dreams herself out of this home and away to Mars. In the end she is really able to go to Mars |

I think the message about this girl really going to Mars in the end is that if really believe in your dreams they will come true once in what form ever ...

Old old topic...and not that I have anything rivoting to add about it, but I have really been stuck on this song lately, because it's getting to be fall and my mind is flashing back to my first fall after getting to know Berlin. Carol Masters was my theme for life that summer and fall, along with The Neverending Story (dream a dream, and what you see will be...).
Two years ago, the fall of 2001 my mind lived in Berlin, it was all I could think about after my August trip. And Carol Masters was so much a part of me, before the trip, I was constantly sitting before my window or on my balcony, staring into the night and listening for that call that might put me better in touch with myself, for I knew things were changing, somehow! Then I broke the glass (that seems to materialize around perfectly obedient daughters) and followed the dream and went to Berlin even if it meant complete estrangement from my family (fortunately temporary ). After my trip and I knew I HAD to return to Berlin for good, the pavement between the stars continued to be rough, whether with trying and trying to make my parents understand (still haven't succeeded there ) and the impossibities of finding a job and moving to Germany during such a bad economic slump...but I found a path, so now am immersed here in a feeling that I have known since I was young, even if I can't explain what it is. My dog and I walk the streets, and it's amazing, we live here!!! Marian said once that the lyrics are open to multiple personal interpretations, well, there's mine, a fraction of the pages I could write on this topic . Joker is right about what Alphaville was originally thinking . (and sorry to be so long-winded!!!) |
