A Rough Sketch - russharvey's songs/lyrics/poetry
Not long ago I realized that most of my friends were in bands and were writing music... so, I thought that I would try and write a few songs... of course, I used to play the saxaphone, which isn't very helpful when you are writing songs....so there is nothing but some melodies in my head... but I thought I would share them with you anyway!

All I Need - 3/15/01
Sometimes I wish for more Than I am To be a singer on the stage Not just the poet on the ground And sometimes I dream I am bigger than I am To be the hero on the scene Not just the watcher In the crowd But then I hold your hand And I understand I understand And I can lift my head up high Cause I feel your flame And when you call my name I am happy to be me And sometimes That’s all I need Sometimes I hope for more Than I was Like the lover on the screen Not just the fool in the shadows And sometimes I feel So much more than I can And the strangers in the news Make my soul ache It's all I can take But then I hold your hand And I understand I understand And I can lift my head up high Cause I feel your flame And when you call my name I am happy to be me And sometimes That’s all I need That's all I need Russell Harvey (from 'a rough sketch') ***This life is expensive, but at least it comes with a free trip around the sun!*** |

The Rain Keeps Falling - 3/15/01
It seems your soul Is dark again And your hiding scared In those hollow eyes Its true we've watched The pillars of our youth All crumble But its time to tame The beast inside And while we've lost Our golden cities Only sand remains To mark the time we've spent But you're not alone To ponder the cost Of a tear- we're all getting Our money's worth And the rain just keeps on falling I can't stop it even if I tried But I can wipe away Your bitter tears So take my hand And I will lead you Back into the light Russell Harvey (from 'a rough sketch') ***This life is expensive, but at least it comes with a free trip around the sun!*** |

I think this one still needs a lot of work, but I will share it with you anyway!
That You’re Gone 3/15/01 I walk alone On this crowded street And I’m in no hurry Till I see you walking away Like you didn’t care So I call out your name And like a slow motion Dream I reach for your shoulder But its not you And I feel like a fool Because I know Yes I know That you’re gone And I Still feel you In my arms And I Still smell your Perfume As I sit In my room You’re still here in my heart and I can’t Believe No I just can’t believe That you’re gone I stand alone In this darkened soul And I’m in no hurry As I watch the rain falling down and I’m hoping to wash away all of my pain and like a slow motion Dream I reach for your picture To bring you back But I’m just a fool Because I know Yes I know That you’re gone And I Still hear you In my dreams And I Still feel your Caress Across the back Of my neck You're still here In my heart And I can’t Believe No I just can’t believe That you’re gone And I Still see you In my dreams And I Still hear you whisper my name but it's only a dream You’re still here in my heart I wish I could Bring you back To life And I Still feel you In my arms And I Still feel your Caress Across the back Of my neck You’re still here In my heart and I can’t Believe No I just can’t Believe That you’re gone Russell Harvey (from 'a rough sketch') ***This life is expensive, but at least it comes with a free trip around the sun!*** |

Well... if you have gotten this far.... I will tell you that this next song was written several years ago and it was inspired by Alphaville. Their messages about the earth, and their activity reminded me that we have to fight for our earth, or someday, it will be all used up! We all need to do our parts, like ridesharing, recycling - keep fighting for Sister Sun!!! This works pretty well as a very fast song!
Waiting For The Fight Stealing through the left side holding up the right waiting in the foothills waiting for the fight Staring through the dark side putting out the light crouching in the shadows waiting for the fight Sometimes we've got to fight for what we know is right how will our children live what will our children see when there's no truth left to learn? all their bridges will have burned and all our dreams our dreams will be in vain Fingers on the rawhide whispers in the night kneeling in the soft dirt waiting for the fight Hidden on the blind side in the dead of night waiting for the call boys pray with all your might. Sometimes we've got to fight for what we know is right how will our children know what will their future be when there's no truth left to learn? all their bridges will have burned and all our dreams our dreams will be in vain Sometimes we've got to fight stand up for truth and right will our children ever see a world at peace with harmony? Ok, that's all the songs I have ever written! Ok, well, I did write a duet in high school - but it's a lovesick whining type of song and I don't think you want to hear it!!
Please.... your comments would be appreciated - both positive and negative! Thanks!! ***This life is expensive, but at least it comes with a free trip around the sun!*** |

Thank you Trent for your kind words! Of course, you know I would not have put them up here had I not read yours first! Thanks!

Did you make melodies for these lyrics?

Well, sort of..... I lack the ability to get any sort of melody out of my head and onto paper or keyboard... I can sing them to myself - I have an easier time with the chorus - but as a whole, the melodies are mostly theory, incomplete and in my head.
I would say that they are lyrics with strong potential to be a song moreso than they are actual songs with completed melodies... ***This life is expensive, but at least it comes with a free trip around the sun!*** |
