wow, felt like a silk clad finger softly touched my soul and brought old memories to life. sad and somehow knowing that this was the way it had to be ... nothing can be done but cherish what was ... and then go forward ...

Quite powerful and soulstirring

OK, I've got over my first spell of embarassment and modesty. Here's another for you to peruse. This time I'll leave the interpretation completely up to you. Bear in mind that once I start writing, the poem takes on its own spirit and runs away with itself, so anything that you don't understand, I probably don't understand either...

OF A THOUSAND DAYS AND NIGHTS (1996)

I lay and I dream of a thousand days.
I see him charge in to release his within.
Unwrapping the love from the silken white frame
by full moon and candle. Comes rise and comes fall.
The satin white smell of magnolia flesh
mingles with shimmering nights of honeysuckle love.
His love words like raindrops fall heavy from full lips
and settle and simmer on hot, willing skin.

I lay and I dream of a thousand nights
where we creep in like thieves to steal from inside.
First with a gentleness, to drink from love’s pool,
and then with a boldness to reap the reward.
Then coming together is soon torn apart
and the prince, once with princes, is now crowned a king.
Unveiling his conquest, he leaves now in silence –
his legacy of valour relinquished within.

My dreams are of thousands upon thousands more
that in the cold daylight fade into the mist.
Go walking in clouds, bathed in sunlight’s rays new
‘til the dawn yields to dusk, just as she yields to you.

I've been in a 'Carol Masters' kind of mood all week and I found this piece in a long forgotten file I had. It's not really a poem, and it is in a way. It's a kind of short story, but it suited the way I was feeling last week, so I'm bringing it back to life here:

Melancholia

It took a while to come out, but tonight, in the darkness and coldness of her isolation, she realises what it’s been all along. This thing called life. Illusions and dreams had been her friends for many years, and finally, in this stark moment, she awakens.

Hard to remember what a friend is, she thinks. They don’t come round that much; once in a lifetime you find one that you can call true. Trying to please all of the people all of the time doesn’t work. Shallowness always reveals itself and depth is too far away.

I’m sorry, she says, for making you love me.
I’m sorry, she says, for making you hate me.
I’m sorry, she says, for being a friend.

A once healed heart is soon again broken. Careless words and truthful tears wash away the ties that bind. Where is the love that I may be loved again? Her cries echo through the marble halls. But no one listens.

I’m sorry, she says, for loving the world.
I’m sorry, she says, for hating the world.
I’m sorry, she says, for just being here.

My angel stumbled in the night and left me all alone. Too bad that he was blind – the blind leading the blind. Too bad he left me stranded in my desperation. Too bad. Too bad.

I’m sorry, she says, for giving you my pain.
I’m sorry, she says, for making you hurt.
I’m sorry, she says, for being sorry.

Melancholia turns and trips into the night on a wave of iridescence. Forgotten are the melodies and dances. Forgotten is the foolishness and wisdom. Forgotten are the memories...oh, such memories...

I’m sorry, she says...

How touching, great work!

What do you think of this :

In the morning I cannot eat, because I think of you

At noon, I cannot eat, beacause I think of you.

In the evening I cannot eat, because I think of you.

And at night, I cannot sleep, ......

.... because I'm hungry

Kaz,
Your work is beautiful. As the others have said, you do paint a very vivid and thought-provoking picture with your words.

Thank you for sharing!

(@FallenAngel, LOL. Nice start!)
