Listening to Catching Rays On Giant
Let's dedicate a topic to our first impressions listening to the new album:
Below a mini review for each song...I will concentrate on the new songs only: Song For No One Great happy synth track with elements from 80s Italo specially in the bass, strong chorus. I Die For You Today First single from the album, but not among my favorites, sounds great at first, lots of synths, but gets a little boring after some time. End Of The World Sounds like a combination of very early 80s synths combined with a harder more moderne style, not really me. The Things I Didn't Do At first it sounds a lot like Men without Hats, doesn't sound like Alphaville at all except for the voice of course, quiet good. Heaven On Earth Nice ballad, beautiful singing and a nice tune, this will definately grow on me, very nice. The Deep Very slow and simple ballad, also wonderful, although I do prefer the track above. Call Me My favorite track of the album, just great all the way, the synths, vocal, please make this the next single, can wait to party to this. Gravitation Breakdown Much harder industrial style, really not my style. Call Me Down Nice calm synth style, reminds me of another band (The Beloved), very unusual for Alphaville. Phantoms Great synths, 80's style again, I love it, the 2nd best of the album in my opinion. --- Conclusion A very different Alphaville album, a pop album definately, my first impressions are very positive, I think this could very well in sales if marketing is right, you could say that the magic of the old Alphaville is gone, but it's nice with a change, a true pop album with great synths, some 80's elements and Marian's wonderful voice, I'm happy about the results... Let's read your impressions...

When I have the full album I will. A few seconds of each song is not enough to make my mind up about what I think.

The songs are actually complete, just with space in the player.

I'm still going to wait until it comes. Don't want to ruin the moment of listening to a brand new Alphaville CD!

I second Kaz's opinion - better to wait to listen to the whole album than judging on a few impressions.
Maybe one thing upfront (can't resist): some songs sound much softer than the live versions, maybe a compromise for the big audience, but a bit of a disappointment for me. |

Sure, but I couldn't resist, and the samples sound really good on my headphones.

I get it but I don't see the point.
