Mike Oldfield
I've been a huge fan of Mike Oldfield for about 25 years now. OK, he can't write songs (his lyrical abilities are practically zero), but his music is so magical and ethereal.
To be honest, when I first heard 'Elegy', I thought it had Oldfield influences in it. That may have been the draw for me towards that song. |

I once watched his concert on TV. I loved the music... It's really magical... but I don't know names of the songs...
I just know Moonlight Shadow - great song! *MADE IN USSR* |

I've got "Guitars" album. Although it is not my kind of music and it made its way to my hands in a very strange way, I like it very much. I'm getting used to other kinds of music than what I usually hear lately. I like discoverings! :D

Yep, Terry Oldfield plays the flute and he played on Mike's 1978 double album 'Incantations' (totally brilliant album btw) and has also done music for numerous tv programmes. Sally's attempts at singles were ok too (I owned a couple of them). In fact, Mike and Sally Oldfield began as a duo called 'Sallyangie' and released an album long before Mike was ever famous.

Just found out that Mike Oldfield will be playing at the Nokia Night of the Proms this year! I've wanted to see him in concert for as long as I can remember (having been too young to go to any of his 1979 European tour gigs) so I am seriously considering going to one of the two in Köln in December. Tickets are a bit pricey though.

Yeah, do that, Kaz! I am sure you'll have a lot of fun when he's gonna perform the second
part of Ommadawn and the whole first Tubular Bells... Seriously, I would spare that money, because all he will do in a frame like that is play three of his eighties pop-songs I assume (Correct me if I'm wrong!). And these are just nice. My favourites: 1. Ommadawn 2. Platinum 3. Tubular Bells 4. Amarok (which is probably the most crazy album a musician ever released!) Cheers! |

You're probaby right Justus. BTW, you left Incantations off that list ;-) but I totally love Ommadawn and Platinum and also Hergest Ridge.
