So, we had a big earthquake (M8.2) in Mexico last Thursday. Fortunately for me and my family, it was just the huge scare and there was no big damage left in Central Mexico. Yet, the southeast of the country was devastated. At least 150 municipalities were affected and, since there are no major cities hit, news and people are downplaying it as if nothing had happened. Certainly, there are "only" 100 people dead (as compared with the thousands of deaths that caused a similar earthquake in 1985), but there are plenty of people who lost their homes and who were already poor; they need so much help. :(

This has been the worst earthquake I've ever felt. The epicenter was very close to the town where I'm living now; it's the first time I've had to run to get out of the house, as it felt like it was going to fall down on me. I'm glad we had no damages, but there were many affected buildings in other areas.

Thank you, Clare.
One thing I have been happy to see is how people have joined voluntary work groups to help those in need. Solidary actions are keeping hope alive. :) |

So, today Parliament votes on decriminalising graft, transferring judicial power to the Government and pushing social costs onto employees only. Today is the day Romania dies. Communism never really went away anyway, but the current climate is pretty scary. It's going to need more than a few protests this time.

A man has gone missing in Hamburg. It's all over the UK news. I knew he was from Inverness but it seems that his family are from Fort William. One of his parents used to work with two of my colleagues.
