Sparks

I have to give this band a mention,''SPARKS'' The godfathers of synth pop!!i thought you guys would love them but nobody seems to have given them a mention in this section. This was the first band i ever bought a record by,it was ''When I'm With You'' back in 1980 when i was 5 years old and theres been no turning back since, this band was my first real introduction to music as when i was 4 years old i used to sit on my mums bed with a little tape player listening to a tape my uncle made me of ''Beat The Clock'' over & over again.Folks if you havent yet discovered this band yet then check them out,you will love them.Their best album in my opinion is ''Number One In Heaven'',but a good starting place for people seems to be the ''Gratuitous Sax and Senseless Violins'' album.
Enjoy.

As I just said in another topic, I bought the new masterpiece "Exotic Creatures Of The Deep" today.
To give you a little impression of it, read and watch this (though the song doesn't represent the musical
style of the album at all, it's much more synthetic):

Lighten Up, Morrissey

She won't go out with me
No, she won't go out with me
'Cos my intellect's paper thin

She won't go out with me
No, she won't go out
Since my intellect's not like him

So lighten up, Morrissey

She won't hang out with me
No, she won't hang out
'Til my biting wit bites like his

She won't hang out with me
No, she won't hang out
'Til my quick retorts quick as his

So lighten up, Morrissey
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, Morrissey
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, Morrissey

She won't have sex with me
No, she won't have sex
Unless it's done with a pseudonym

She won't do sport with me
No, she won't do sport
'Cos it's way, way too masculine, look at him

So lighten up, Morrissey
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, Morrissey
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, Morrissey

I got comparisons coming out my ears
And she never can hit the pause
If only Morrissey weren't so Morrissey-esque
She might overlook my flaws

Lighten up, Morrissey
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, Morrissey
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, Morrissey
Lighten up, lighten up
Morrissey

She won't dine out with me
No, she won't dine out
Since my t-bone steak is at fault

She won't dine out with me
No, she won't dine out
With a murderer, pass the salt.

Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, Morrissey
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, lighten up
Lighten up, Morrissey

Now this is what happens when you spend not enough time online: That would have been really worth
a big London trip to me!

SPARKS LIVE! SPECTACULAR – 21 ALBUMS IN 21 NIGHTS

May 16th – June 11th 2008. Album No. 1 – Album No. 20 at Carling Academy, Islington,

June 13th 2008. World premiere of Sparks’ as-yet-untitled 21st album at Shepherds Bush Empire

Tickets on sale from November 29th

When faced with the challenge of what to do next, pop innovators and musical legends Ron and Russell Mael aka Sparks have, in the past, not just risen to the challenge but surpassed any expectations.

So when asked what plans they had for their 21st album (yes you read it right…“21st” album) their answer was typically audacious:

“How do we best unveil our new album, Sparks as yet untitled 21st? How about playing in concert every single song off of every album that preceded it, all 20 albums on 20 consecutive nights, culminating in the premiere of our latest? That's approximately 250 songs, or for you musicians, 4 million, 825 thousand, 273 notes. Come celebrate each and every one of those notes with us!” Sparks, Los Angeles

Not many artists can claim to have 21 albums in their repertoire. Very few of those could say that their 21st album is as groundbreaking as their previous work. Only Sparks would dare to take on this challenge – this mammoth undertaking, this melodious epic, this groundbreaking concept, this celebration of musical greatness past and present.

The Sparks Spectacular will be taking place in London in May and June 2008 - one album per night, played in its entirety, starting with 1971’s album Halfnelson and concluding with the brand new, as yet untitled, 21st album. The only concession made to man’s physicality is that, whilst the order of the albums will be chronological, there will be some days off during the run!

@J: I read about it recently on the BBC website and was right going to ask you why you hadn't attended at least a couple of shows... ;(

Hopefully they'll do something like that again some time in the near future...

Oddly enough I seem never to have pointed out this song, where Russell Mael extremely sounds like MG in the chorus...
