Party in Hamburg (Germany), Dec 2000
David and Willy
Left Copenhagen on friday just before noon. The train ride is a little over 4 hours to Hamburg, but we have done this before. We had really high expectations for this party, and soon we realized that all of our hopes would come true… We arrived At the hotel Aquasport at about 5 pm, after a few McRibs at the main train station (as usual). There were no one at the hotel at that time, except for the hotel staff – the manager Stefan Clotz hadn´t arrived yet. We got our room to share with Michael Schwartz from the U.S. whom we had met several times before, including the only (so far) liveshow in Copenhagen last year. Anyway, we settled at our room and had a few drinks while waiting for other fans to arrive (some were downtown). Soon, people began to arrive and a few hours from the time to arrival we were about 20-25 people by the bar of our room talking party and Alphaville. Later In the evening, we went to have dinner at a restaurant close to the hotel. Lots of people we had met before, and new joined us – we had so much fun! The food was ok, the beer was excellent, and this continued for quite a while. Even later that evening Michael Schwartz and Willy went to see the Reeperbahn, but that´s another story :) Next day We had breakfast and the official program was about to start. Actually at 2 pm all fans were united for a trip to see the statue from the Forever Young cover. Everyone took lots of pictures. It was great to see it, even though you wouldn´t recognize it unless you knew it. Stefan Clotz told us the story behind the statue and how by coincidence he found out what is was. At about 4:30 pm we had dinner, and everyone were getting ready for the big event… The party and liveshow Was about to start, and over 80 Alphaville fans were very excited to be a part of this. At about 6 pm the entrance for the “venue” opened, and people gathered to see the first liveshows. Everything was set up very professionally with big live speakers and synths. Also a sound engineer was hired specifically for the occasion. First out was Stefan Hack that performed “dance with me”. After his song the talented german band “Slenderflame” performed about 7 own songs and as final act they played their cover “seeds”. Third out was “Andy E” from Sweden. He did 3 own songs and the cover “days full of wonder”. The first big surprise was the italian band called “Nemo-Project”, who performed “Guardian Angel”. The guitarist was truly amazing! A very gifted guy who handled his electric guitar like he hadn´t done anything else in his life. Later he told that he did in fact play professionally in an italian band – no wonder, what a talent! After 2 NEMO-songs AA-project, another Italian band entered the stage with the powerful version of “she fades away”. But the highlight of the evening was no doubt “Artwork”, who performed all coversongs like no other, about an hour of pure joy to the great songs by Alphaville and Marian Gold solo. Manuel Richter ended the live-session with a very interesting and really amazing mixture of own songs and alphaville covers. Unfortunately “Delphia” (that was supposed to play) from Belgium could not attend because of illnes. Bernd arrived To the party, everyone were so excited that some even forgot there was a liveshow going on. Willy had a nice talk with Bernd, who unfortunately didn´t bring his new solo project “Atlantic Popes”, except for one copy which was not available – of course. Bernd told that he´s definately still part of Alphaville and that he will work more with Marian in the future, even though they had a “break” for about 1½ year. Apparently the “Atlantic Hopes” project has been going on for several years, and he was quite happy with the result. After the show The party continued to late hours. People were drinking, dancing, talking, exchanging Alphaville merchandise and had a great time while listening to Alphaville. A pity that it had to end, because this party was a truly fantastic experience, and we at New Horizons will never forget it. Thanks To everyone involved in making this great event come true, specially Stefan Clotz, the manager of Aquasport – you´re the man! Joachim Hollander (co-leader of New Horizons) that were the co-ordinator for the tribute project and the party. Also, Claudia from the MoonBase, Tobi, Monika, Ronen Preisler (always a pleasure doing business with you), Miriam from the Dutch fanclub, Adi from Israel (you´re great), Christina (Avil) from Sweden (cheers to you), Michael Schwartz (all the way from the U.S.) the streetside guys and Yves Cannic and to everyone we forgot to mention…thanks!
