I always thought that 'Schierbaum' was a German name. I read that it comes from the East of Westphalia. And Marian comes from there. Every third person in East Westphalia is called 'Schierbaum'. So I still think it is a German name. But if it is not so, I should kill the phone book because it says that everybody there is called 'Schierbaum'...

I don't ask myself why he changed his name into Gold.... 'Schierbaum' does not sound like a big pop star :-)

I read that he called himself 'Gold' because of the figure of Immanuel Goldstein in the novel '1984' (one of my favourite books).
