Strange Attractor - New Album

I can't seem to find anything else about the upcoming album, so let's start a discussion. Marian tells us the new album will be released next year already and he already has a lot of new material. This is super exciting, hopefully this album will contain some really nice songs, hopefully deeper songs than the songs on CROG.

Gravitation 10 Aug 2011 04:48

Apparently the new album will be rich than GROG. That there is only one A Handful Of Darkness...

P.S.: In general, talk about a new album early. Finished material is of course (after all, something scheduled for release on CROG)

JaJaJa 12 Aug 2011 19:20

Nice idea, Avil! [beer]

No one here will be surprised I like the idea to conjecture on the new album, for it certainly will be much, much more better than CROG... [smile2][smile2]

Next Alphaville album for 2012: "Strange Attractor"

Interview with Marian: He says they are in the studio up to 15 hours a day working on the new album which is going to be "very different from any Alphaville album before" (whatever that is supposed to mean, but it's probably good because it means no more retro [wink]). He also says the (working) title is "Strange Attractor" which also was the title of an album in the 90s which was never released and of which some songs can be found on Prostitute, United and Dreamscapes. Marian says 2012 is the scheduled release, but we all know this may well turn out to be premature. However, title and sound-description (albeit enigmatic) certainly sound intriguing enough!

Here's the German interview

by the way, besides known unreleased songs, are the other song titles totally made up (like "Carnival is over" etc.) ??

this is an interesting question.
btw, has "little moon for psychopaths" been mentioned before, actually?

Krapplund 18 Oct 2011 16:22

Yeah...I remember that I have seen the layout somewhere....

shapeseven 18 Oct 2011 16:37

whatever batterbee's intention was by copying it. or quoting it. or imitating it. or satirizing it. or tributing to it. who knows ...

honestly, i don't know - except for the already mentioned or performed songs, or for lmfp.
as i already said:, it wasn't me who created the cover, i received it from batterbee (and i really like it). by the way, i absolutely enjoy the fact that someone came up with the beach boys artwork. there's so much to discover in the images (many of them are rather visual messages) on alphavilleforever.tumblr.com, i was already complaining about the absence of analytical approaches amongst the fans. that was something i loved so much back in the 90s when i ran the moonbase website.

jetset 19 Oct 2011 11:06

Let me reword my question [smoke]
As the text for LMFP is credited MG, I assume he wrote it. On the playlist some of the songs are known :
- title only (ex : Temple Girl)
- title+lyrics only (ex : London Sky)
- title+lyrics+music (ex : Around The Universe)

Some other are unknown (ex : Mr Nevermore, LMFP). My question is on that part : how comes you know such songs ? [?]

shapeseven 19 Oct 2011 12:23

exactly like i said: the cover art aswell as the record label(s) in this series of graphics have been created by edmund batterbee. i just combined them with the rest of the artwork to finalize the concept.
afaik a few more tracks, like "black hole door", for instance, have also been mentioned before. personally, i am missing "questions of happiness", which is one of my personal favourites.
LMFP, for instance, is a wonderful little track marian wrote last year (i think), and - of course - he provided me with the lyrics.

vafe 19 Oct 2011 12:25

you forget:
- title+lyric+music: Handful of darkness

jetset 19 Oct 2011 18:51

What about Temple Girl ? was it a real working studio track, or just a title you used on your own to illustrate Moonbase ? ( I still have the caption, yes yes :) )

shapeseven 19 Oct 2011 18:59

maybe i didn't get the question right - but i never did any illustrations on moonbase since 2004.

shapeseven 19 Oct 2011 19:34

stroke of midnite also exists.

From July 2006, Moonbase

what is that?

shapeseven 19 Oct 2011 20:39

ah, recognized it. sibelius is a composing software. but i didn't create that illustration. maybe claudia or alex do know anything about it.

Foolship1077 20 Oct 2011 06:13

I took another look at that "retro cover" and had to laugh about "Over the Hills and Far Away." Somehow, the thought of MG covering a Led Zeppelin tune (though that probably wouldn't be the case) got a chuckle out of me.

Don't know if he'd ever really do that one, though.

same title, different song. alphaville's 'over the hills' is not a cover. it is one of the tracks that were initially supposed to appear on CROG. OTHAFA has been (if i remember i right) the opener for the album. Back then it was not a ballad.

shapeseven 20 Oct 2011 06:46

regarding OTHAFA please also see:

Actually the original is this one (approx. date : mid-june 2006):

shapeseven 20 Oct 2011 14:46

so it seems that quite a lot of songs from the tracklist do obviously exist. what do we learn from that?

jetset 20 Oct 2011 18:40

Well, no certainties so far because I suspect you keep some information but, your next challenge is to tease us about Temple Girl...surprise us :)

shapeseven 20 Oct 2011 19:04

well. there's more coming up. more graphics, more secrets. keep analyzing!

Okay, that clears things up. Thanks!

i'll tease you with something different.
i already do.

shapeseven 21 Oct 2011 07:32

btw, remixing reality does not mean to be un-realistic.
:)

Streetside Romeo 21 Oct 2011 16:01

It would be a real pity if Gallery wasn't on the next album (as the cover-phantasy suggests)...but then, with strange attractors you just never know where the trajectories are headed...

shapeseven 21 Oct 2011 18:00

yeah, i'd lov to have gallery there, too ...
