I´ve been a huge AV fan since the summer of ´94 when my "older" friend always used to listend to Forever Young in the resturant that I worked... Loved it at once!

But I have a problem, Willy. Since my choosen year has to be 1994, should I choose "92-94" or "94-96"?? Just by chance I choosed "92-94".

If your friend played you AV in -94, than maybe the period that you fell in love was 94-96, that you kinda had some time to "digest" it as you became more and more a fan...(??)

No. I did indeed become a fan in 1994.

But did you hear all AVsongs you've now heard in -94...??

Hmm... No, that´s true. But I consider myself a fan since the year 1994. And then ofcourse I heard more and more of their music. But I can honestly say that I haven´t become more of a fan, neither less of a fan since then. So they year is still 1994. But I can see your point of me choosing 94-96. Maybe that´s the best choice then. But the question still is "Since when have you been an Alphaville fan?" My answer: 1994.
Whatever...

I began to go crazy in 98 I think (at least I don't remember what was before) and my transformation finished on 23rd of June 2000 at AV concert in Moscow... Since then I'm totally addicted... I'm absolutely crazy... I'm... I'm... I'm simply a fan!

Hehehe... almost the same here... but the one who suffer much more than the other was my brother! We lived then in the same room and often slept with playing radio. And once I was quietly sleeping and don't know why suddenly woke up and the first thing I hear was intro of BIJ. I sharply sat on my bed making some noise so my brother woke up too. He looked at me, listened to the radio, said: "Crazy!" and fell down on his bed again. Another day when I decided to record BIJ from radio I jumped from my bed where I was lying before and shouting "AAAAAAAA!" ran to radioset. My poor brother!

The music of Alphaville touched me from their first release 'Big in Japan'. Their Forever Young album was the first music I taped when I was a teenager.
This love never ended. Without internet it became hard to follow them from the times of Prostitute. But since I discovered the Moonbase and other sites I'm again a real Alphavillian. I got my copy of Salvation, Dreamscapes, DVD and even saw them live. A magical experience!!
Thanks Alphaville for this long enjoyful journey since 1984.

I first heard Alphaville when I got a single in a bunch of other singles (can't name one of any of the others) around mid december of 1984. I was in the habit of buying a couple of new release singles of people I never heard (I was doing DJ work while I was in the Navy) and I picked up Big in Japan....( i had spent 6 months previously in Japan, and having been born there (My parents were from Kentucky and Illinois) I thought I'd waste a buck and a half. It wasn't a waste.
I'd say I've spent most of my music purchasing life listening to AV. and i have worn out several copies of several albums. Not to mention going to CD's etc.
I've bought
Forever Young at least 4 times
Afternoons in Utopia 3 times
The breathtaking Blue twice
Prostitute twice
United once
Dreamscapes once
Salvation once
Stark Naked and absolutely (GODDAMN!) Live once
several singles once
and 2 shows worth of tickets
and the DVD.

I don't have a couple of the cd's, but I would love to find so long celeste available conveniently.

I heard Alphaville about 3 months after I heard another favorite, Stevie Ray Vaughan. I got to see him perform a month after first hearing him. Alphaville... well that took 15 Years!!!!!!!

S.M.I2.L.E! It makes people wonder what you're up to.

Before AV i was closed, i was depressed, I wore black and i felt black....I was just hanging around with no meaning AND i was listening to 90's crap music ----> YUCK !!!
When i started listening to AV "i had no illusions" - simply liked their music but didnt know anything about them.
I believe that its faith (or the Synth God ) who brought me so close to them both emotionally and phisically.
And lets not forget the great bonus you get when you become a fan of AV : you meet loads of great utopians !!!!
About what Avil said that guys come second to AV : i think that the best thing is to love a utopian not that i've had a relationship with one....yet.....
but when my ex and i broke up i thought to myself : "oh well...i still have got AV !"

When "Big in Japan" was new, there was a radio station or two in Seattle that would play it, but at the time, I never even heard a DJ say who they were! I finally learned of the band a year later, when a family member bought the cassette tape.

So yeah, loved 'em since their '84 debut!

It was back in 2002 when I saw the film Lilya 4-ever, in which I heard Forever Young 2001. For the first time I realised how good that song really was. I had heard the original about a thousand times on the radio but just never been caught by it. Funny it needed a remix to do that.

since 1990. a friend of mine had a cassette tape made by a boyfriend and it had "forever young" on it. that was the moment i became fascinated by alphaville and had to go out and buy forever young and afternoons. i think i wore out the tape....

Oh yes, the good old days of antique cassettes. [smile2] I still have some of them, totally bad quality of sound in the meantime but I can't throw them away ...too much history.

Ehm, hello and welcome to the Dreamroom, Deepbluecalm! [wave]

Hello *ariAna* and thank-you...

yes, the quality really wasn't the best. sometimes the tapes were eaten by the tapedeck. oh well... i think mine are somewhere around here.....along with the memories. [tonque]

Yes, it was a bit archaic those days but nice anyway. [smile] Especially all those nonsens the radio hosts said when they started talking before the songs were finished. [laugh]
If you have those kinds of memories you'll realize that you have been a fan for a looong while. [mummy]

I still only have TBB on tape. One day I'll buy it on CD but I got my first CD player in 1995. Never been one to rush round buying CDs when I have the tape.

Stay young! It is a sobering thought that I feel (and probably am) old enough to be the mother of most members of this site. lol It is all in the attitude of life.
