View Full Version : Wanna hear Alphaville's/Marian's cover of...

Rosie

We all know, Alphaville was influenced by Bowie. Marian even made a *very good* cover of "Five Years" (the original song is on my favorite Bowie-Album "Ziggy Stardust"). Thereīs another Bowie-song that seems to be "MADE FOR ALPHAVIELLE" (made for Marianīs voice!): Look back in Anger...
If you donīt know the song... Iīve saved an mp3 and would like to share it with you.

I always wanted to hear Marian singing some songs from boy bands. Although he does not like them it would be good to hear the songs from him.
My fave song I'd like to hear from Marian is 'Angels' from Robbie Williams.

while mentioning Bowie..i played "Beethoven" for my musicteacher in school..he said:oh,is it Bowie??
-no,its Alphaville...
-well then he is trying to imitate Bowie!!

That's a strange f&%Īing thing for a music teacher to say...Imitation? LIfe is led by imitation...but I think Mr Gold more or less is more inspired than imitates..He has too much of his own style and flavour that he adds to things...imitation??? I think NOT! Enhancing...inspired by...could be...Your music teacher is a coocoohead

Yeah, I think so, too, Trent. Marian loves to be inspired from Bowie but he would never do a simple cover version with no sense behind it.
Teachers sometimes (or very often) seem to be very... hmmm.... strange and stupid persons.......<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Trent
13 Jul 2001, 16:13
Well..I wouldn't say that teachers are stupid...they are who teaches all of us..I had very good teachers in school...though I didn't give a shite what they were teaching me...they did pretty good...but for a music teacher to say that is quite...Yeah! COOCOO...If you know anything about music you know that you are inspired by other things alot...Art imitates life and life inspires art...whether it be a tree or a car or your favourite shirt, you are inspired by something and that's what you write about...take me last song I wrote for instance...that was inspired by a Bowie movie as a matter of fact!

I think without inspiration AV would not exist....
Well, I know that not all teachers are stupid (I said SOMETIMES)..... I have some who ARE stupid... But then I have some I like very much.... <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

I would like to hear a cover by Marian of the song "Finding Me" by Code 64....a slow great song! [love]

Code 64 - Finding Me

When things are very hard to see
Always rain inside me
You'll find me here
Trying to heal

When it's very hard to breathe
With all this pain inside me
You'll find me here
Falling like a leaf

When I have nothing to say
Still trying to find a way
You'll find me here
Trying to heal

Sometimes we only feel pain
Seeking shelter from the rain
Without hands to hold
As we grow old

When I feel lost
You'll find me here
Trying to heal

When things are very hard to see
Always rain inside me
You'll find me here
Falling like a leaf
When it's very hard to breathe
With all this pain inside
You'll find me here
Trying to believe

Just listened to a little piece of the song, the original voice is not so different from Marian's, I think.

How about Run to You by Code 64. The song has good lyrics and a great melody. Marian could do this very well as it has the Alphaville sound.

What would you say to a song performed by MG, but written by Jim Steinman?

As you may know, Steinman has written songs for many artists over the years. While many know his works via Meat Loaf, other artists like Bonnie Tyler and Celine Dion had performed some of his as well. Even Steinman had his own album in '81, "Bad for Good."

I've always been impressed by his writing skills and with Gold's voice, I think it would be an impressive combination...but which of his songs???

Wow! What an idea! This would be great!!!
I think, any Meatloaf song would do, but i can also imagine one of the ballads Steinman wrote and arranged for Air Supply or Barbra Streisand, "Left in the dark" for example.

I think that Henkes vocals are perfect for this song, even Marian couldn't do it better, but it would be fun to hear an AV-version of the song anyway [smile]

After listening to Klangwelt, Big in Japan, I was taken back by how much Marian sounded like Tim Curry in Rocky Horror in the intro! OMG! The visual image of Marian singing Big in Japan in his blue jump suit is forever changed after listening to this. I am scarred for life now.

Marian could perform Tim Curry's role Rocky Horror quite easily and very well. I would like to hear Sweet Transvestite. Marian could skip wearing the hose and heels for this one thank you very much.

That's good! I could probably hear more of "I'm Going Home," though.

Foolship, that is my second choice from Rocky Horror! Marian could lend his soulful voice to that piece and make it greater but be could do it all very well. Also Tim Curry did a single called I Do The Rock that Marian could do quite nicely from what little I heard from the intro.

Ooooooooooooh. I'd SO love to hear that! I love Tim Curry as Frank N. Furter and Mr. Gold would be perfect, too. :D You know, when I was a teenager, my friends used to tease me and said how much Frank N. Furter looks like Mr. Gold. @.@ *lol* I didn't mind them saying that because I found both men to be very attractive. *lol*

And noooooooooo, don't skip the transvestite stuff part! That's part of the fun! :D

I should think we be very careful imagining Marian as Dr. Frank N. Furter being trussed up in a corset, cod piece, fishnet stockings and stilettos. We will be banned from this site or worse have Scum of the Earth dedicated to us and I do not want that. [paperbag] Unless Marian is OK with that but I have my doubts. [bigeyes]

I love the cover Five years...is my absolutely favourite one...and yes I quote Loralai completely although The Rocky Horror Show is absolutely one of my favourite musicals and when Marian was young I have thought too to see him play the role of Dr.Frank N. Further :)

Actually MG has got the voice and soul to cover a lot of good stuff. He shouldn't do anyway.
As long as there is a potential for own songs.
But in twenty years maybe, when he's hitting only exclusive hotels and operas to sing My Way and
stuff, he also could do The Things That Dreams Are Made Of by Human League - actually
also other songs by them... [smile2]

My Way ? Marian ?? I imagine him in that Sinatra suit [laugh]

I have a confession to make, regarding a couple of the songs MG's covered so far.

I only knew of the AV remakes before I actually heard the originals!

[bigeyes]

Yep. It was true with "Roll Away the Stone" AND "Do the Strand."

Some of those others like "Shape of Things to Come" and others never reached the US, so what I've got on Dreamscapes and Celeste were the first I've heard of any of those!

As for the first two I mentioned, it took a YouTube search for me to actually hear them.

The recent acquisitions of DS and SLC have indeed become a learning experience!

At least I knew of the original "Say It Ain't So, Joe" already, but that was a long time ago.

Adiville, I can clearly picture Marian in the Sinatra suit doing a permanent Vegas run at the MGM Grand Hotel. Or, he could do some Italian opera at the Bellagio, Klingon opera at Planet Hollywood or good old rock and roll at the Hard Rock. lol

Aktuh and Maylota would be my first choice for Marian to sing more appropriately at Quarks Bar and Restaurant at the Las Vegas Hilton. [bigeyes] [paperbag] [smile2] Should Marian ever to decide to "Do Vegas" there plenty of venues for the different musical preferences we choose for him to perform. [smile2]

Hi

I wanted to post something about this song a long time ago. The other day there was an ad on (South African) TV that only used the "give me the good news" part, so I again thought about the song and thought.......

"good song for Marian to cover with nice synths from Martin or perhaps even Bernhard (he can contact McAngel to colaborate and bring back the South African element in the song - this is a good old SA song from the 80s after all)!!"

I think it was also used as the theme song for some TV show somewhere in South America??!

Crocodile Harris - Good News

Lyrics

Give Me The Good News lyrics

If we accept the word forever
Maybe we should live together
And not be scared to watch
The late night news
You can't use guns to build a nation
A bullet never was creation

Give, give me the good news
War's the one game where we all lose
Give me the good news

If I accept the word tomorrow
Can I file away my sorrow
And not be scared to watch
The late night news
You can't use force to sell a promise
Dictatorship was never honest

Give, give me the good news
War's the one game where we all lose
Give me the good news

Give, please give me the good news
War's the one game where we all lose
Give me the good news

If I accept the word forever
Maybe we should live together
And not be scared to watch
The late night news
You can't use guns to build a nation
A bullet never was creation

Give, give me the good news
War's the one game where we all lose
Give me the good news

Give, please give me the good news
War's the one game where we all lose
Give me the good news

Give, give me the good news
War's the one game where we all lose
Give me the good news

Over the weekend, I picked up a CD compilation of stuff by Gordon Lightfoot, and the stuff he had in the '70s was very well done.

Wonder if there's any of his stuff that MG could do? "Carefree Highway," perhaps?

Loralai

Gordon Lightfoot is my favourite folk singer / songwriter. Hmmm........never thought about Marian doing folk songs but hey, there is a first for everything and it is a *%$$ of a lot better than other styles that are popular right now. How about Song For A Winter's Night or If You Could Read My Mind.

After watching the Blues Brothers movie for the 100th time, I think Marian would do a great job with any of the songs from the movie especially Soul Man.

Ideas for Queen covers:

The Show Must Go On
I Want It All
A Kind of Magic
One Vision
Save Me
'39
One Year of Love
Love of My Life

True, he had already paid homage to Freddie with "Ascension Day," but if MG ever felt like covering any of their stuff, these would be great!

Although the top one on my list may be too perfect. I get choked up sometimes if it's done right!
