View Full Version : Cars - what do you drive ?

Well, we know that Marian has a green landrover defender 110, but what does everyone else drive?

I own a 62 Studebaker Lark, but I don't drive it, it stays in the garage - I drive the family car - a 99 Plymouth Grand Voyager! I used to drive a Toyota Camry, but we actually outgrew it and had to buy the minivan!

The only car I扉e ever owned was a 1982 Chevy Malibu Classic (when I lived in Colorado).

I paid 700 dollars for it, and sold it again a year later for 600 - that was a great deal.

In Denmark cars are too expensive, so I use my bike to go anywhere within Copenhagen.

ok - well, I guess I should have changed the title to transportation devices?

Actually, when I lived in Vancouver, Washington... I rode the bus to Portland, Oregon everyday for almost 2 years just to go to work!

It was cheaper and less stressful than driving!

I drive in my mom's car - a silver Honda Civic, 1996.
Just for the record - Bernd Lloyd drives a black (i think...) VW Passat
I took my driving lessons on this car and its an animal !!!

I`m driving the surely most friendly car in the world: A 13yrs. old Fiat UNO, good for 170-185 (depends on how he feels the day) km/h and only 6.5l/100km consumtion. It`s blue, has enough room inside (the seats are even transformable into a bed)and despite its 280.000 km (!!!) it has never had any breakdown. I love it!

Ford Fiesta 1.1 here. 1991. Something bigger then the vacuum cleaner and smaller that the real car. But it helps getting from one place to another a bit faster than on my own feet. Sometimes I borrow Opel Vectra from my mom to know how it feel to drive REAL car.

We've had MANY cars since I was born... after we moved to Finand (about 5 yrs. ago) we've had like four cars. Just before we bought the BMW we have right now, we used to have an Opel Kadett, model -85 (yes, THAT old!!...), well, when it kinda "broke" (*hehe*, refused to move anywhere) for the 10 000d time, dad finally decided to buy that BMW he had been thinking about for long... used ofcourse. ...and I must say that BMW is the best car I've ever ridden (and I've ridden MANY cars, so don't start making comments like "yeah, you've probably rode only a couple or so"...), actually it's been my fave since we had one once earlier when I was four or so (and a few years from that)... I remember my dad letting me steer it a few times, me sitting in his lap, wondering WHY THE HECK I CAN'T SIT ALONE!!......nice memories:)...

biking is lots of fun!! too bad I put so many miles on my Diamondback Mountain Bike.... I actually wore it out and it was going to cost so much to fix all the worn out parts that I could have bought a new one for less money! At one point in my life I rode about 30 miles a day on it.....

i just have to tell about the experince of driving a car for the first time..i was given this uppertinity to get drives license if I'd move up to the north and give a shot for the car systemtechnique seconday school..so i did it..today i had my first driving lesson..and it was so fun!!
ofcourse ive driven my daddys Audi(cant understand how he let me drive his precious)but i dont think that counts as a car..think its more like a robot with its automatic gears..
but anyway:this car that i drove today was a quite new model of a VW,and i was so nervous cause i'd never driven a car with real gears b4. but after a while i noticed that everything went very fine, eccept for that part when i had to drive in the industry area where the cartestdrivers have their office...i was just crossing the approach to Bosch(cartestcompany) when two unreleased models of BMW were suddenly there infront of me,coming from the opposite direction to turn into that approach..i didnt know where the hell to go,and my teacher told me calmly to drive..but i stopped the cr and let the italian testdriver pass by..they looked so friendly cause they smiled so cute when they passed me..

when the lesson was over and i had parked the car at our school,i imagined that i had driven very badly today, but my teacher told that i drove very, very good for using a gear level for the first time..
so im quite satisfied by the result proceed of today

I get the bus everywhere at the moment until I get a full time job, or I get a lift in my son's metallic light blue Peugeot 106. My first car was a white Lada Riva Estate - bloody huge and like a tank.

Had my heart set on a dark green Landrover Discovery for months and found one now...but now I'm in two minds whether to get that or a Freelander, which I think looks a lot neater. In any case, as I live in the land of Landrovers (50% of the population in my part of England has one of some kind), it'll be one of these two. It WON'T be a Defender, cos I hate the shape [laugh]

Never seen this topic before. Well , I have a fully equipped blue metallic Volvo V70 2,4 2002 with 170 hp. Very comfortable car, especially when driving very long. Perfect on the autobahn.
Maybe a little bit boring because it's so common (in Sweden) but it's the best car when you have 2 kids and need a strong, big, safe and comfortable car. I use it mostly during vacation (going to the mountains for skiing, or driving to south of Europe).
For normal week-days I drive my old lovely mountain bike: A shimano XT equipped Diamod Back model Apex from 1995. A bike is superiour to a car when you live in or close to a city!

I have a big, great bordeaux-red Buick regal coup, with lots of chrome on the outside and an all bordeaux-red velours interiour. It's a 1993 model, made in the end of 1992, with 6 cylinder engine. I really LOVE it!

In Germany, I own a white 1992 Mazda 323. An incredibly reliable car with rather unspectacular looks, but a marvelous sound-system - and it's running fast.

29 Sep 2004, 05:02
@SR-My grandfather had a Buick Regal just like that one, but about 10 years earlier, I suppose. I love red, but the interior was somehow too intense for me at the time. Anyway, such a real American car!!
@Toni-The first car I learned to drive in was my dad's 240D that he loved so much...Certainly it took mechanical care, but the difference was it was able to be fixed and worth fixing, not a disposable car where everything breaks by the time it's paid off...Like Mark's poor Geo Prism...
I don't drive my 1985 VW GTI much because as Trolltoft mentioned, it's not practical in the city, and I'd rather have some money for things besides car repairs...never had an aptitude for auto repair myself [ashamed]

When I was moving in the end of March, I rented a car for 3 days to transport my stuff from my old flat to my new flat. It was fun - driving around Berlin listening to Alphaville and a few other select artists [wink], the very best was when I was driving up the Seventeenth of June listening to Summer in Berlin [smile2]. I took a picture of the little car I had - I loved it because it was so short and compact but tall enough that I could stuff a lot of stuff inside!

Mercedes A-Class was very popular for upper middle-class in Mexico when that brand was introduced in the country (a few years ago Mercedes couldn't be bought here, unless people payed very high taxes)

09 May 2005, 22:03
@ Mags: That test means to make a fast move just like as to avoid hitting an elk that suddenly comes up on the way. That car once was almost falling over during that manoeuvre
and the pictures of it made Mercedes looking pretty ridiculous...

I drive 2 cars. I have a 1998 dark green ford escort which i have owned for the past 6 or 7 years. I also have a 1991 red toyota previa, i love it. it is a massive car with 8 seats and a huge boot. I prefer to drive older cars as there is less things to go wrong. Newer cars have far too much electronics in them.

Wise words.

Although I drive a quite new car myself (a four years old red Renault Kangoo). But only because the Technical Control Board seperated me from my great love a year ago. [weeping] That was my old Renault 4 Fourgonette 6 that I drove for more than 21 years. I've really loved that car madly. *big sigh*

While I am licensed, I do prefer the Metro bus, but I can still remember the first car I've ever had.

It was a 1980 Mercury Monarch, a graduation gift. Had it for a little while, and I still have the replacement hood ornament after the original got stolen.

My car is a variation of Galileo's motto: "and yet it moves".

It's a smurf-blue Datsun Sedan 1800 from 1984. We've had it in the family for 25 years. My mother bought it almost new and it taught her and me to drive... It's worth its weight in gold. [smile2]

One of my team-mates cald his son, how is a mechanic. And looks like it the turbo that broke or maybe a piston that broke [sad][sad] I see my money goes away.... don愒 have the money for this....it will be some hundred euro. Will see if I can join the Alphaville gigs now....[sad][sad]

Talked to a friend that will take a look at my car, he have a workshop. It愀 not the engine anyway...that愀 good, that愀 expensive.

But it can be the turbo, and a new one would cost 400-500 Euro....but he will call me when he knows more...

I did it confirmed today that it was the turbo that was broken....I will not buy a original turbo, it would be to expensive...so it will be a bootleg and everything will cost around 700 Euro if he don愒 find anything more that愀 broken.....

But need to changing brakes before end of mars also...so more money will fly away....
