I cant say enough times how much I love this movie. Few movies have had such an impact on me than this one. The acting is fabulous (specially supporting actor Joaquin Phoenix as the young emperor), but the story, the drama, the fight, the soundtrack, everything is just great !

I already prepared my website dedicated to the movie. The address will be: http://www.gladiatorweb.f2s.com (nothing yet, but Ill let you know - you gonna love this!).

I really liked Gladiator too! In fact, I LOVE the soundtrack. I listen to it most nights when I go to bed. I really should go rent it again -- I only saw it once in the theatre and it's one of those movies that you certainly don't get to take everything in on one watch.

Speaking of movies - anyone like Casino? I really like that movie too.

Speaking of the soundtrack, Hans Zimmer did an amazing job with this score. Its a really powerful and emotional soundtrack. Very sad, but very beautiful.

HEAT is a great movie!!

By the way...Al Pacino was trained by the former SAS [Special Air Service] member ANDY McNAB to handel the vapons in the movie.
ANDY McNAB is a great author and have written the books Bravo Two-Zero and Attack!

Well, after 2.5 hours of watching the movie GLADIATOR i can absolutly understand Willy, Avihai, Dingerz, David and all the guys that were so excited about the movie !
Its great - the bloody fights, the conversations between the characters, the emotional parts... fantastic !
I tell you - there is only one thing that makes this movie so great.
Its not the clothes, the music nor the locations (of course they are a cool addition) - ITS THE BRILLIANT CASTING of (sexy) Russel Crowe and Joaquin Phenix (that guy has the most CRAZY look in his eyes...) !!!!
Great movie. It really deserves a few oscars <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

I got the pic from another fansite and changed a little, but my idea is to take actual screendumps from the movie, and make a Flash animation from that - its going to be cool, I hope...- also adding some sound from the movie will make it even better.

Willy! More music, fantastic!! I can't wait. Man this year is going to be good as far as music releases. I really like Hans Zimmer as a composer, I love James Horner too. Other soundtracks I really like are Braveheart, Last of The Mohicans, Glory, Titanic, and Legends of The Fall. If you like the soundtrack to Gladiator I suggest you check out all the titles I just listed.

lol..now that I look at the list, can you tell I like history?

The Oscar show was great, and for once I feel that the people who deserved the Oscars the most, got them. My only thru dissapointment was that Hans Zimmer didnt win an Oscar for Gladiator. Young composers are often snobbed by the academy. It took James Horner a lot of nominations before he finally got an oscar, even thoug he composed some of the most popular soundtracks the last 15 years.

I was so dissapointed that Lord of the rings didn't get more oscars. It should have gotten for best film and best supporting actor. (Ian Mckellan). I was also dissapointed that Memento didn't get for best original screenplay.

The Academi went for the safe, politically correct clichs.

Mags
13 Feb 2004, 13:57
Return of the King is a super movie, for sure.....my fave is still the Fellowship of the Ring, less fighting and more talking [wink]. You see the most of the personalities of Legolas and Gimli, my two favourite people, in the first.

Kaz
13 Feb 2004, 16:14
I think the Trilogy has got better as it's gone on to be honest. I loved Return of the King more than I loved The Two Towers more than I loved Fellowship of the Ring [smile] You're right though about the personalities though Mags - you don't get much of Legolas in the final movie.

LOTR (2003) = 11 (nominated for 11)

One Word........ Hollywood!

davidhorizon
01 Feb 2006, 20:50
That's ridiculous. Star Wars blows them all away. It's all about Hollywood politics. If Star Wars was'nt a successful merchandise industri they would probably praise it. They simply dislike the commercialism that surrounds it. Only that's not what the this is about - This is about what movie has the best effects. End of story.

Or maybe, just maybe, there actually are movies with better effects than SW III.

Sci Fi is never taken seriously by Hollywood. Their loss.

wii
03 Feb 2006, 13:05
Not correct Clare, Visual Effects awards are mostly Sci-fi movies.

I did expect King Kong, Narnia and War of the Worlds to be nominated, but certainly also Star Wars - I don´t get it. In any case, Dennis Muren that also did effects for Star Wars has been nominated 15 times for an Oscar and won 8, so it doesn´t matter that much - he is the best at Visual Effects.

This is Oscars 2007, but I don't think it's worth creating a new topic about it...

Mexican media are driving me crazy: after years of saying that the Oscars are worthless and nothing but one more Hollywood marketing trick, right now no one talks about anything else than the Great distinction made to Great Mexican film-makers, due to their Great talent...
Two weeks of Oscars everywhere have made me tired... when is the ceremony at last?!?! [yell]

Well, Avatar got its butt whooped by Hurt Locker! (No pun intended)

James Cameron's ex-wife made history by becoming the first female to win Best Director, and she also got Best Picture!

It was cool to see Jeff Bridges (Best Actor) and Sandra Bullock (Best Actress) get some honors, too. In fact, Bullock gave some nice words to her competitors as part of her acceptance speech.

TheMoonBoy
08 Mar 2010, 11:49
I'm glad James Cameron/Avatar didn't win for Best Director and/or Best Picture. It was partially an averagely thrilling popcorn flick, and partially a huge pile of crap. Haven't seen The Hurt Locker, but I'm glad that a woman finally won for Best Director.

wii
08 Mar 2010, 17:15
Yeah, it was ok, but what are boring Oscar show. The most boring in years, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were ok as hosts, but nothing really exciting happened.

I hate war movies, so I doubt I will see the The Hurt Locker, I loved Avatar, but an nomination was ok for me, it would have surprised me too see that win an Oscar for best movie.

It was one of those cases where the special effects were great, but the story had too many of those old movie cliches.

The scenery was fantastic, and yet I wondered if they got the floating mountains idea from a Yes album? [laugh]
