Really great news! Lets hope for one or many concerts in Scnadinavia.
A trip to Germany would be fun, but i think it will be hard for me in May.

we looked on the roadmap onlnie and the distance from ColumbiaFritz (venue for different AV-Concerts) to Halle/Saale is between 1,5 and 2 hours by car.

I hope it is going to be another AV-concert in the area May 6.
That would be really nice. I think we are going to be a lot of NH-members on the concert / these concerts. And I think some of my 80-is friends are coming as well. But.... so long waiting.....

Lisa

The most important thing for me is to know when a concert is in good time so I have the chance to take some days off....it's very hard to get time off in my line of work. But after May 2006 it will be easier because then I have saved up 6 weeks of holiday so they have to give me some days off [smile]

I have to inform my employer about when I plan to have my holiday 3 months before my holiday starts....

Trond
06 Dec 2005, 11:59
Ok - your holiday starts May 4. Tell your boss that !!!!

After the flop at Tinitus last year, I don't think they will book AV to another big electronic event like this...

(Ps. I liked the concert...the problem is that the majority of the audience didn't think like me...)

Lisa
06 Dec 2005, 17:13
I don´t think so either... the majority of the Tinitus audience had expected too much i think...

At Tinitus I brought with me 7 friends. And everybody had listened to Alphaville that autumn. I had made a copy of the probably set-list, and after the show they were shouting....: "But.... we knew all the songs...!! Amazing !!"
So yes - they were happy with the concert. [smoke]

I had nothing against the crowd. The event is made for people like that.
I love the other artists, I'm really into that kind of music.
But when it comes to Alphaville - they just don't fit into the whole EBM/industrial/futurepop-scene.

As if Alphaville fit into any scene... They were so different from the others at that Disco 80s festival.

As if Alphaville fit into any scene... They were so different from the others at that Disco 80s festival.

Well, talking about the audience it does make a huge difference which scene they belong to. The Russian 80´s audience might fit AV a little bit better than the hardcore EBM-people from Tinitus.

But of course, there are a lot of different people in the audiences, but I'm talking generally.

Kaz
07 Dec 2005, 17:28
They do tend to go for that kind of event though. Eurorock in Belgium in 2003 was that kind of festival and, no, they didn`t fit in there either.

Hoping for more concerts THIS side of Germany next year! [wink]

well...done with alphaville? Maybe in the old way with lot´s of time and efforts taken...but not as music of course. Though I am NOT sure at all I can come to Germany. There are so much things that should be right...so what I told Trond was that "it could be a good idea"...so maybe, but possibly not. I will become father for the second time in the middle of March...so it has to be ok home, before I can decide to leave for some days.

I`ve been a fixture at a few AV gigs Trond and sadly not met you yet. Unfortunately I have to work and I don`t get holidays outside of school time which means I cannot travel as much as I used to before I moved to Germany (I worked only on a substitute teacher basis while I was in the UK and it made it easier for me to have time to myself when I wanted it). *sigh* Would love the thought of going to Halle. May will interrupt with degree deadlines - damn shame. Still, hoping for a graduation celebration trip to some yet unannounced superlative AvE concert. Never know, if I pray hard enough, perhaps some venue organiser might wake up to the glory and get inviting to the UK - but let's face it, it's more fun to go abroad.

Need to come out of the shadows again since the unforgettable Berlin '04. I've still got an archive of excellent pics hidden for my own delight that need sharing. 'Hey ENGLAND!' ~ Still all humorously paranoid that the Tipi venue people are tracking me down since one's rowdy dancing caused the breakage of a table full of wine glasses. Whoops! Still, feels great to post here once again.

I noticed several people here being curious to know how Halle had been.
So I will tell you a few of my own words about it.
First of all we have to mention the outstanding location the show was presented in:
The Georg Friedrich Händel Halle, a music hall in the center of the city, named after the composer and mainly conceived for classical concerts, which primarily means: Excellent acoustic conditions.
You even could say it’s a little smaller variant of the Gewandhaus in the about 30km distant „rival“ city Leipzig.
Still this gives us reason to explain two critical aspects: The light-brown-beige wood panelling all around the floor and the walls and stuff reflects all the beams of the lighting set-up, especially moving lights, inside the entire audience.
That means it often felt a bit different to the usual audience dark – stage illuminated – cliché, to be euphemistic...
The second is the natural wood-caused massive bass boost you don’t mind when you listen to a Symphony Orchestra there, but partly gets you in trouble by Wishful Thinking for example when you stand more in the middle of the crowds.
As for me I mostly and generally prefered the position as the watcher of the scene standing near the FOH, the place where the sound and light and video engineers did their job.
Apropos: The point this time goes to the sound guy. I really have never heard a better sound at an AV date!
But what is the point about the projection of pictures to a silver screen optically disturbed by those silver sparkling trusses carrying lights?
Anyway, right at 8.15 pm our darlings enter the stage and the first tone gives you one comfortable thing to learn: It all sounds much more elaborated and tasteful than before.
The synth sounds have been polished once more, a good reason to get very curious for the new album. Congrats, Mr. Lister!
Another change might be specially liked by some of you: David Goodes‘ playing has turned to a more powerful chord style, the slightly noisy fill-in-orgies seem to have become past.
But did he really give up climbing up the guitar-hero olymp?
Let’s have a look at the menue. Or maybe not. It’s just simply been a great gig!
And, yes, we all enjoy this string quartet conducted by Rainer Bloss as a special piece of candy at every opportunity! Should they keep it as such a rare event? I think yes.
Another significant gimmick has been established by that lady playing the viola (as far as I remember) wearing a Moongirl shirt: You easily can stay forever young, it’s a state of mind.
And that’s what we can assume when looking around watching people between 12 and 62.
A nice surprise to me was to realize that among the male part of the audience Marian’s beard couldn’t make it to an allembracing fashion thing.
Would you have expected that?
Let me finally tell you a little episode of the climax of the concert at the last encore, DWM, piano version:
Mr Gold at the second time of the chorus keeps silent instead of tenderly aspirating „Do...you...want.......to...dancewithme...?“ in time.
And the audience steps into this trap.
Oh, he successfully keeps them on tenterhooks even a second time with this. And gets huge applause for it.
But he shows even another special bright stone from the entertainer‘s treasure chest:
At the end of the song he starts telling something like:
"Well, you all may know this: Loneliness..., lonely nights.... When you cannot sleep. And you keep on turning around again and again....
When I was a child I was sent to bed by my parents quite early in summer. So it was still daylight. And I couldn’t find sleep. So...
Don’t send your children to bed too early!!!“
*Huge applause*
Yes! That’s the perfect finale!

On stage in Westfallenhalle, were Bad Boys Blue, Limahl, Sandra, Howard Jones and Alphaville.

Bad Boys Blue started the show and played a lots of hits. I liked their show. Next on stage was Limahl. He was a really disapointment! He started with a new song, then "Too Shy". Ok - I like Kajagoogoo.
So he song "Neverending Story" - well, he did not sing it, he no longer has the voice for that song. So his backsinger-chorus lady had to sing most of the song.
After that Limahl suddenly was a cover-version artist! He performed "Just Can´t Get Enough" Depeche Mode, "Tainted Love" Soft Cell, "Brown Girl In The Ring" Boney M, "Living Next Door To Alice" Smokie and so on.
I was really glad when he finished his part.

Then it was Sandra! The crowd was exciting about finally watching her on stage. I love Sandra, and she had an amazing HIT-PARADE. It was great to hear Sandra almost live, some of the songs were sing-back.

So Howard Jones. He looked not so very enthusiastic, like he was hoping the show to end as soon as possible. He has many great songs, but he was not in the mood, so....

Finally our heroes. The only band who played really LIVE.
I like that AV changes the version of the songs they perform from concert to concert. We know all the songs, but it is exciting to hear which version they are playing on todays show.

Finally I heard Carry On Your Flag live. And it was good to hear Wishful Thinking, Dance With Me and Golden Feeling.
I am a little bit tired of Jet Set, I hope that song is replaced on the shows in the future.

On the new song Questions Of Happiness, it looked that Marian had forgotten the lyrics, and Martin had "to sing on his lips". So I don´t know how it is on real.

In Dortmund Alphaville played with guitar and drums, Martin Lister was on the stage - but no one could hear him!!!
Is AV going to be a rock´n´roll band now with a lots of solo´s from guitar and drums?
I think it was too much guitar this time. LOUD guitar. Too loud.
Many of Martins intro´s was destroyed, the old synth pop band Alphaville was not on the stage this time.

I hope this will be better the next time I will watch and hear AV live.
I want Martin back..!!!

Sandra is my biggest favourite. She is a HIT-MACHINE! I loved to sing Maria Magdalena, twice actually!!

Howard Jones has many nice songs and melodies, but he was not interested in the audince at all. I got tired of him and waited for Marian to enter the stage.

Alphaville was the Headliner and finished the show. The only band who perfomed 100% live. The concert was not as good as i hoped, but I finally heard Carry Your Flag live, so I was satisfied after all.

Trond, we should upload these to the gallery and even add the review to www.alphaville.org (http://www.alphaville.org)

What do you think?

@Trond: Great to see the anniversaryshirt being shown off [smile2]
Great pictures!!! Too bad Alphaville were the only artists to perform 100% live...I would have loved to see Bad Boys Blue and Howard Jones. Howard Jones can perform a great liveshow (if you doubt that watch his 20th anniversary DVD!), but I'm not sure Bad Boys Blue can....but their songs are great....like you say...lots of hits!!
