View Full Version : Important Issue about Norton and Alphaville.dk
It seems that the problem with Norton and www.alphaville.org is more serious than I initially thought, but please, anyone who uses Norton, go to www.alphaville.org and check if the site loads correctly, if not please post it here.
Thanks

Norton Internet Security's firewall used to block almost all the content in alphaville.org (I always had to turn it off to see it), but I've tried several times today, and it works ok. The links and webpages related also work alright.
Iīm using Norton AntiVirus, with Auto-Protect. No problems for me

Same here [thumbup]
I'm one of those having problems I'm afraid. I'm using Norton Internet Security 2002 and most of the pages on alphaville.org are simply blank for me. I surf a lot and I only get this problem on alphaville.org and a sportresult site called www1.soccerstand.com. On that page the page with the scores doesn't load but the rest of the site works normal.
I have the same as Cathis's and so far so good.
I did make some changes - poul e - please refresh the site (hold shift down, while pressing F5)

I'm glad I can see it without turning off the firewall [bouncy]
I turned off my firewall to see alphaville.org and after 1 minut I got a virus [disappro]
I never asked you to turn it off.
Nono....I don't blame you! It's just so damn annoying that you can't do anything these days without getting a virus [disappro]
I wanted to check if Norton is really the problem as it seems like I'm the only one with problems....and it seems like it is as alphaville.org works when I turn it off. It could very well be because I'm still using the old 2002 version....I don't know
Oh yes, Norton is the problem - itīs very well known fact among web developers, and it seems the old versions are even worse. Why not use Zonealarm which is free ?
I have tried ZoneAlarm already....and I don't like it at all! I'm considering to install XP with SP2 and use the firewall included instead.
Thatīs an excellent idea.

@Poul: SP2 is good, but maybe you should upgrade to a newer Norton version (it works more or less alright for me)
@Malila: I can't afford Norton Internet Security at the moment so I will install XP instead...
I just installed XP with Service Pack 2 and everything works perfectly ! No need for additional Firewalls.

@Poul: I understand that. [disappro]
SP2 firewall works fine anyway.
@Willy: I'll listen to you... maybe I will stop having trouble with the boring Norton tutorials [smile2]
I recommend everyone who use XP to install Service Pack 2, mostly for security reasons. I still prefer Windows 2000 for older PCs, since XP takes more resources and run slower on anything less than 1GHZ. In my testing of 3 PCs, a 700MHZ/384MB RAM, a 600MHZ/192MB RAM and a 600MHZ/256MB RAM, the best performance was to install Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4.
Willy, you really are webmaster/IT support! [knockout] [laugh]
Yes, and your PC is also at risk slam - you are using an old version of IE.
Computers and programs are very strange things!!!
First I setup all the special rules for www.alphaville.org in Norton to try and solve the problem - no response
Then I erase all my temporary internet files - no response
Then I delete all the special rules I setup in Norton for www.alphaville.org - and now it works!
Yeah, thatīs why us IT supporters are so busy [wink]
Keep in mind poul e - that I did make some changes to the code 2 days ago, I think your PC cached the old site. Now, that everything is clear and Norton back to "normal", you now see the new version of www.alphaville.org without the Norton problem.
Great !
Yes of course Willy....your changes must be the reason that it works now. Everything else would be plain weird!

@Poul: before the changes, the website could be seen some times and then it stopped working again [smile2]

Alright, now that I've said that out loud I have to go buy antivirus software cause now I'll be jinxed.

I consider this problem solved, please refer to the PC/Mac for future discussion of this kind.
Thanks a lot.
