We´ve talked about AV´s best song, but let´s be more overseeing...(eeeeh...don´t even know what that means<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>)Whatever, which one do you think is AV´s best ALBUM???
Personally can´t decide...Well...The breathtaking blue isn´t my absolute favourite (though She fades away kills).
Salvation or AIU is a hit...:)

Hey ! Not even one vote for The Breathtaking Blue ?!?
Lets not forget what we're talking about !
First of all, one of the greatest songs i've
ever heard - For A Million .
Than we got Romeos and Mysteries of Love, followed by the beats of Ariana and Middle of the Riddle, plus the romance of She Fades Away and Summer Rain .
Please, consider it as an A class . It is .

FY stood the test of time for me... While Salvation is the one i listen most to.

IMO, Utopia seems to top FY, probably because of all the additional people who helped put it together.

Salvation makes a great third.

The Best, and most interesting album is Afternoons in Utopia. Whole album makes good set. Includes different kinds of songs but still they are somehow quite similar. AIO does not include many of my favourite songs, (exept Dance with me, witch is one of the best indeed) but whole album is awesome pice of art. Last and maybe also least the cover is pretty cool, maybe not as cool as Salvations, but second best!

Having listening during the week to some of AV's catalogue, it got me wondering what is other forum members favourite AV album and why (or what) it is.
My Fave has to be afternoons in utopia.
The songs are lyrically and musically perfect, there is some great chords and key changes, not every song is "commercial pop" many risks where made and i applaud AV for doing that.
The other reason it's my all time fave is memories, i bought it on the day of it's release, i was in Hamburg on a music related visit and the Cassette i bought soundtracked my 3 day stay, from the night time vista's on the water front, to the day times sat in bars and cafe's watching the world go by. Each time i play this album (now gladly on CD & Mp3) it takes me back to a time in my life that i truly enjoyed. Music really is a snapshot of our lives.

A different perspective and soundtrack in later years was the exellent Prostitue album (but that would be another story / thread [wink] )

Would love to read about other members faves and why..

Hope some of you contribute.[smile]

@coss: I did move your topic to this one.

But good question....why is that album best [?][?]

A bit of music trivia here too [smile]
Roger Linn who is credited as playing drums on all but one track (not counting iao or lady bright) is the name of the drum machine (a linndrum 2) invented by the man who bares his name, this is 100% fact too, at one point the studio i worked in had the utopia linn drum machine set up there.[smile2] i used it on 3 of my own sessions.

The production, the songs and the running order, plus i love the reference's to Lewis Carroll's work. And most important, it's running time. no single album should over stay it's welcome in your CD player. I guess all of av's albums are unique (not all of them sound the same - unlike U2[smile2]) but AIU is by far the best one. I would of loved to have composed Lassie come home or Fantastic voyage. Mr Gold at his very best.

Oh, I see some tendency now. Almost every man who is musician/sound-producer/studio techic and thus connected with music creation process - just in love with AIU and that is the reason I completely and wholeheartedly agree with you, and will sign myself under each word of that quoted post and of the further ones.

Forever Young will always be the best AV album in my ears......and I do always have my 'Forever Young' disc in my DJ case when I'm out playing a job

Forever Young is a benchmark of synth pop in the eighties, however, AIO, showcased a depth of lyrical textures and musicianship lacking in the FY album. Prostitute shows the same distinctive quality.
