No one enjoy the burden of years, I think. My brain always say I'm not that old. But my body don't agree.

So I took a week off to attend the Congress of the European Association of Registrars near Bologna in Italy and my first day I get sick. Flu. My flight and costs should have been paid by my association in Scotland (that's another story) so I had to struggle on.
Being in a beautiful place with a full programme of lectures on legal matters, guided tours and multicourse gala dinners with tenors singing - sounds lovely doesn't it? Less so when getting up and taking a shower is so exhausting you need to sleep. I had no appetite at all and any attempt to drink alcohol was a disaster (a few sips of a beer in Ravenna and I was so travel sick coming back that as soon as they let me off the bus I ran for my room. Yesterday's return trip require overnight buses as I couldn't find a nearby airport. Great in theory. Now I'm home apart from lack of an appetite I feel almost normal for work tomorrow. Typical. ....it was them what drove me to drink!" [drunk] Grandad, Only Fools and Horses (UK sitcom)

I'm fine now. Appetite is still absent, last seen in Edinburgh on way out. Left in Yo Sushi restaurant on Prince's Street on Sunday 4th June I assume. And I'm exhausted but no longer feverish. I have a wedding on Saturday and it's very important that I'm in work or someone'll claim it but one of the parents is a friend of Dad's. Really want to be at my best. The couple's daughter is very sick so they want to marry while she can attend. Puts my problems in perspective a bit.

Heart is good. All my palps and rapid heartbeat, plus tremors, are down to Graves' Disease apparently. I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago. Have to take beta-blockers and anti thyroid meds until the hormones balance and then we will see. Hope it works.

@Kaz: That sounds serious. I hope you'll get the right treatment.
*big hug* Now I have a cough... and I'm feeling worse and worse. I really need to recover soon, as these next months are going to be very demanding of my being in a better shape. ;( @Clare: Thanks. :) |
