Question about Frank and Ricky
I don't know if this has been talked about before, but why did both Frank and Ricky leave the band? Frank would seem the type to do this since he always looked so uncomfortable in their videos and interviews.. Oh and Bernhard as well I heard he left a couple years ago? Was it because of Marian Gold?

Of course, this issue has popped up in many different threads on this forum. To the best of my knowledge, Frank left in 1984 because he didn't like the attention, Ricky left in 1997 to stop making music altogether and spend his time with his family in France, and Bernd left in 2003 (but hadn't been involved with anything AV-related after ForeverPop in 2001) because (from what I understood) he and Marian didn't share the same views on Alphaville anymore (live vs. studio, sound and work-style,...).
I prefer to dance to my own beat I prefer to sing my own song I prefer to live - do you wanna come along? (Ephemere - Eternal Travelers pt. III) NEW ALBUM RELEASED: Check out my synth-rock band EPHEMERE's latest, the wonderfully synth-heavy LP "Hobos & Architects": www.ephemere.de |

But Bernd and Marian are still friends and talk to each other regularly, according to Marian. In fact, there are some nice photos of them together, talking and laughing, at the 25th anniversary party.

Wow, I wonder how he feels now since none of the original band members are left, in a way it's not the same Alphaville for me.. I guess everything happens for a reason.. but im glad he still puts it together

Personally, I feel like Ricky and Bernhard betrayed the Alphaville brand by leaving. Or maybe as a fan I placed them on a pedestal. I can remember in '94 when Prostitute was released I was elated that my heroes were back and active on the circuit. Maybe they're human after all.

I agree Brendon, but I also feel that Frank betrayed Marian and Bernhard. AV was getting known well when Frank left the band. I look at it as being that when your in a band, your committed to the band Your there for your band members, and you will never let them down. Honestly, Marian is the only true "Alphaville member" because he was the start of AV and he will always be apart of AV...hes the singer so he has to!

Don't think so, I am happy for their input in AV, but what if they had stayd against their will?
Don't think that would have been an ideal situation... You can do just what you wanna You can kill or you can die Be a beggar or a princess But you'll never lose your style Ephemere - Fallen Angel |

It's pretty much unfair to talk about betrayal when none of us knows for sure what actually happened when Frank, Ricky and then Bernd had to leave...

Agreed. Even though Bernd had his say when he left, he didn't really make his reasons clear enough for anyone to understand. We should respect their decisions and leave it as it is.
