View Full Version : Mesh
Another group which is a must for any Alphaville fan - Mesh. These guys are from the UK, and their music is a combination of great and addictive synth work (plus the occasional guitar sounds), truly awesome and very distinctive vocals, and a really good song writing. I can't recommend this band highly enough, just check them out and see for yourselves! And, no, I don't work for them... ;)

Mesh has a much darker attitude than AV. Darker and harder. Yet, I like some of their songs very much.
Mesh is really good.Someone who has heard their new song? The have made it together with..eeeh...eeeh...forgot his name...
I´m your best friend-the dream
Oh yes..The name of the song was Waves...Great!
I´m your best friend-the dream
Just heard Mesh for the first time. The song "You didnīt want me" - THIS IS GOOD!, very synth, very DM, but still having their own style, and a quite good singer (for once). Now, I will try to find some more...!

"You didn't want me" is a good example of how good Mesh get when they play slow, melodic songs. They should stick to that..
I'm a danger in your paradise.

OH BABY!! MESH!! Alright, I'll calm down
: ) I too can't recommend this band more. I have been trading videos/CD's/tapes over the net for over 5 years. Over that five years the amount of times I have been sent tapes by "up and coming"' bands is close to a gazillion. Most often, I listen to them once, then couldn't care if I heard them again - most of the time they're good - but just too immature (in the production sense)
One day I was trading DM with a fellow fan and he had nothing to offer so he gave me a tape with mesh's first two albums on it. I thought oh, why the hell not. I got the tape and could not believe my ears as far as what I was hearing...
I strongly reccoment The Point at Which it Falls Apart for anyone who wants to check them out because it is more pop - closer to Alphaville. They can get almost industrial sounding yes, and their oldest album Fragile is like that. Also, if you want to download - try to get a hold of Trust You. It's an amazing song. And Waves as mentioned before is really good. (with mark Oh)
I heard that they are playing in New York in March...this is my one opportunity to see them, mind you it's a long trek for me since I live in Toronto Canada. The other bad thing is that it would cut into my DM fund (for the tour this summer) I'm torn...
Willy - do you want me to send you another song? In fact, let's forget this runaround - I'm going to mail you with my lists and we'll
have to set up a trade. I'll make sure you get the DM 1980 boot, a mesh compilation and whatever else you'd like. If anyone else would like a mesh compilation cd, mail me and I'll make you one!
Tara
...after all, a compilaton tape is what made me a fan (hence buying everything mesh can offer)
Tara, yes please - send me some more. Which album is "you didnīt want me" from ?

You Didn't Want Me is from the album In This Place Forever. Check out mesh at www.mesh.co.uk. They have a merchandise page and their prices are really really good. I'll be sending you my list in about 20 minutes!
Tara : )
Thanks all of you, for the tip.
Mesh is absolutly brilliant music.
So please tip me some more.

Mesh !!!

WOOOOOWWWWWWW - got the CD today (thanks Tara): This is so fu*** good that I canīt stop listening to it. The songs are really, really great. My favorites are "Not Prepared", "Waves", "You didnīt want me" and "This without you", but all the songs are good. This is probably the best not well known band Iīve ever heard. Iīm so excited, that Iīm considering a news on alphaville.org about this (even though itīs not alphaville related), but who cares? Every AV/DM fan will love Mesh, I also see a little OMD in their style, but they have their own sound, and thatīs rare in synthpop (in my opinion). Too many bands wants to sound exactly like DM, and thatīs not very original, but Mesh !!!!!! man, I love it !

I like waves very much, although it isnīt the mesh singer who sings...

It is the mesh singer who sings Waves Avil (Mark Hockings)
And Willy - I'm so glad you love the CD!! That's EXACTLY How I felt wheh I got their first two albums. I was ABSOLUTELY floored.
That would be great if you put up something about it in the news section. Lke I said, it's all about exposure right?
Anyways, I'd love to chat but I have to be off to work!
Tara : Þ
P.S - Stefan if you read this, I got your package last night! Thanks so much!! I'll write you when I get home : )
Really??I thought it was just Mesh feat Markīoh...
-Iīm your best friend-the dream-
I listen to Mesh everyday now, it gets better and better everyday. My favorite songs (currently) are:
Not Prepared Waves You didnīt want me My Defender It scares me This without you
I wrote to them asking for material, and I got it a week later, with lots of info about them and the releases - great service !

I resived Mesh " on this tour forever CD " today, WOW.
Its just the way I always thought DM would sound live ( fell free to coment ).
I received som info from MESH - read it below:
Is it May already?
2001 is certainly flying by at the moment so before it gets too hot to be
interested in anything other than drinking beer in an overpopulated pub
garden we thought we'd drop you a line.
First things first. A London gig on 9th June.
On Saturday 9th June we are headlining at the "The Garage" 20/22 Highbury
Corner, London. The move to the larger venue follows our previous two
sell
out gigs at the Camden Underworld. Long term fans will know that our UK
gigs are only slightly more frequent than General Elections. The gig will
see us perform several of the new songs we've been writing this year, a
couple for the first time ever. It will also be a chance to see/buy the
new
mesh t-shirt (more later). Ticket sales are going very well so we'd
recommend
swift action if you want to catch the show. Hope to see you there.
Tickets are available as follows:-
Credit Card Hotline: 01905 773549
Tickets Ģ8:50 Adv from 'Flag Promotions', PO Box 181, Wembley, HA0 4BE
or
Enclose SAE - Resurrection Records, 225 Camden High St
or
Stargreen on 020 7734 8932
or

Other forthcoming gigs elsewhere in europe are:-
June 30th - Holland - Arnhem, Willemeen Festival. More info at
www.xtreactor.nl or www.willemeen.nl or +31 (0)26 4426021
August 4th - Belgium - Neerpelt, Open Air Eurorock - www.eurorock.be
September 2nd - Germany - Hildesheim Mera Luna Open Air (Marilyn Manson
headlining)
What else have we been doing?
Recording
Since the beginning of the year we have been working full time on mesh.
That's right - we no longer have "real jobs" and must now pay for food,
mortgages, beer and child support etc using nothing other than the power
of
mesh. Are we "committed musicians with belief in their music" or plain
"fools"? You may well ask. But through our deal and relationship with
Orbit
Records we have our best opportunity ever to make the most of mesh. So
since January we have been spending most of our time in the studio writing
and recording for the next album & singles.
To date we have completed 10 tracks (almost 11...) that we really believe
is some of our
best work ever. We performed some of the tracks for the first time
recently
in Germany where they received a brilliant response. We will continue
writing for the next couple of months and then for the first time we will
likely do the final production/mixing in an outside studio
with a view to finishing the album by the end of the Summer.
Subject to record company release schedules the first single should
follow shortly thereafter.
Collaboration with Mark'Oh
The "Waves" single project with German DJ Mark'Oh gave us our first German
chart entry, making it to number 83. Just 82 places from that elusive
number one spot. While clearly it would have been great to get higher, it
was a great experience that also gave us a very useful insight into the
world of major record labels and the hard work/frustration that surrounds
the promotion of a release.
Afterwards all involved agreed that it makes sense for both Mark'Oh and
mesh
to concentrate on what they do best rather than risk coming up with a
musical compromise. Everyone is happy with this decision and there are no
plans for a
future collaboration. Mark'Oh is currently planning
a club tour and you can find out more on his website at
http://www.markoh.com.
America
In March we went to America to do some promotion including 3 gigs in
Chicago, New York and Orlando to follow up the release of The Point at
Which
it Falls on metropolis records. We had three great gigs especially in
New York
where we were knocked out by the response - possibly one of our best gigs
ever! Thanks to everyone who helped make it a success and we hope to be
back again later in the year. Our sight-seeing wasn't quite so successful
as we managed to lose Mark at the top of the Empire State Building. At
least he wasn't molested by a huge gorilla.

Has anyone else heard it? I know Avil has!
Tara :)
I love Mesh, but aggresive roots is usually not good for me...well, I will give it a listen.

so I went to their official site and listened to all music samples. and now I say - WOW! I like it.
I'd really like to see their concert but I'm afraid I won't find the time... *sighs*

Alien you shouldn't miss them! They are great live!
I recently helped Oleg do some interview questions for Mesh (and some other bands) for his website, but don't think they got back to him yet. Be interesting to see what they have to say...
Wow, I had never heard of Mesh...[blindfold][laugh]..., but I definitely need to become better acquainted with them now!
Thanks for the recommendation...[wink]

Oh do not miss the show!! You can find the time..you can! Believe me, you would NEVER forgive yourself if you did not go.. It is not something to pass off. They are an AMAZING band!!
Tara :)
...didn't know mesh were still doing gigs this time of year!
it's not just time that I need. I've spent all my money on my trips to see AV.
I know that I will regret if I don't go... but chances are small... *sighs* I wish I didn't know about it.
Donīt forget that Mesh are coming to Sweden in July!

WOW!!!! I listened to Mesh yesterday at the best music shop here in SLC, and you all are right, I LOVE THEM!!! Kind of DM/early NIN sounding, but definitely their own, these guys are awesome!!!! The dark synths and harmonies make me shiver...You didn't want me is mesmorizing, very very very good. I wish I had a little money so I could get these albums right now, but have to wait...see if my family will be nice to me for my birthday, in a couple weeks...
Wiiie!
Some week ago I saw Mesh live for the first time ever.
I came in the middle of the first song: Firefly (bit late, we had to get ourselves a couple of beers...or something...hmm).
During the concert I manage to get to the 2nd row and just screamed along Mark (the singer). A great wonderful show, a perfect festival final!!
I even discovered a new song: From this height, really terrific. They are great live, they really love what they are doing.
And they played my fave track: Confined. I was happy and partied all night long.

I read a review from the Mesh gig at Arvikafestivalen. It wasn't very positive. The reviewer said that Mesh had trouble being the ending-act at such a big stage, and that Mark looked uninspired(?)
But I guess if you're a big fan you don't care [smile]
Did you visit the Project Pitchfork concert as well Avil?

Works just fine: http://www.mesh.co.uk/
WOW, long time since this thread was active.
However, the new album has leaked two months before the official release? Has anyone here heard it? I got it and I wasn't too impressed in the beginning but it grows on me.
