I wrote the following at the new alphaville mailinglist:

well,, euphoria has become a mess of all topics thrown in a huge boll, but we strongly believe that an advanced message forum is a much better way of communicating and getting to know each other. why ? well, there are many reasons:

- everything is divided in categories, which means that we avoid off-topic posts all together, because we have a subforum for this already called ”non-alphaville”. All this makes the flow of topics and posts much better.
- all forums are moderated, which means that several people read all the posts, to insure that everything is going well. As the forum get bigger more moderators that new horizons knows and trusts get involved.
- private forums for groups of people who want their posts not to be public, for example webmasters and fanclub leaders.
- fan profile, where members can post their picture and write all kinds of personal stuff, which adds to the ”get to know” each other.
- active topics, so you never miss a post no matter where in the forum is has been posted.

in the very near future more features will be included, for example a ”who´s using the forum?”, so you can see who´s online right now at the forum and invite that person for a chat.

Hear hear

This forum has such high potential. No mailinglist will be able to cope when this place unfolds!! Just wait and see.
This is the future!!!!! <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

disagree. the fantastic thing about a mailing list: you get the stuff delivered at how. subscribing to the digest version allows you to easily navigate through the amount of mail. no waiting for html transfer, no headlines that let you just guess the content. you can use it much faster. logging on to egroups allows you to access and seek the message archives. incredible thing.

but i do believe that this forum is a great addition for people who prefer the other way round. wouldn't like to miss it!

I agree it is a question of which form you prefer.

When I wrote &quot;no mailinglist will be able to cope&quot; I haven´t heard anything about Marian, Bernard etc. being on the mailinglist (I never thought they would join a mailinglist, that´s really something special!). Their prescence is what makes the new mailinglist so great. I was getting really tired of all the non-AV &quot;talk&quot; on euphoria. The new mailinglist is the best a mailinglist can be because of the band themselves taking part in it!!

But I prefer reading only the posts I want. I´m also a member of the mailinglist but I don´t read much else than Marian´s mails. In the forum everything is divided into categories so you can easily see what interests you.

But that´s just my opinion.

I dont care about the mailinglist. I havent been a member of any AV mailinglists since 1998. I liked it at first, but I got tired of certain people, writing about their personal life, and other people dissing eachother. This forum is brilliant. I can choose the subjects that interrests me, and my email inbox, isnt filled with 20 junk emails every day.

Yes all the &quot;junk&quot; is also the reason that I was getting very tired of euphoria. The new mailinglist is much better, but I think that in time there will be &quot;junk&quot; and the mailinglist will be just as all other mailinglists - sometimes there is something interesting but most of the time it´s &quot;junk&quot;.

This is what I don't get. People complain about &quot;junk&quot; but it's not exactly clear to me what &quot;junk&quot; is. It seems to me to be highly subjective. I suppose friendly banter can be considered &quot;junk&quot; but that goes on in this forum too, and I don't see anyone complaining. It's just that when that finger gets pointed, in a general direction, I wonder who is included, and am I part of the problem? The line between offtopic and topic isn't always clear, and where is the line saying enough is enough? I do have to admit I have more tolerance for certain individuals than others, but that doesn't mean that those &quot;others&quot; shouldn't be able to express themselves.

The future exists, first in Imagination, then in Will, then in Reality.

I think it´s mainly a question of what you want to read. In this place you can choose exactly what you want to read. On the mailinglist you get every post in your e-mail and you can read about &quot;junk&quot; like peoples personal problems, religion, politics etc. I myself am not so interested in that. I mainly want to hear what happens in the Alphaville world. I´m also a member of other mailinglists (a-ha, OMD, Hooters and Belinda Carlisle) and on these lists the posts are almost only about the artists. I have to say that the new mailinglist is interesting because Marian and co. is there. But the main thing I think that´s better about this forum is that everything is divided into categories so you decide for yourself what you want to read.

I like this forum a million times better. I've got stuff going on these days so not around so much, but the problem with the mailing list is that I get an inbox filled (most times) with something like "I love you Marian when are you coming to Wherever...) I've been trying to unsubscribe, it won't let me LOL. I think that list is possessed. On the forum, I choose what I want, and in my opinion, the information is better...

I don't mean to be hard on people who post to the mailing list, and maybe because I'm so OLD (40 - better stay off the "tips and topless posts LOL) I'm becoming boring but I prefer to have info I can use to support my favorite band.

I prefer the forum. When there's a real discussion going the list can be OK but I prefer the way that people can say so many different things and discuss so many different topics here.
