Last days weren't very warm here... But the 17th of June came with 'the heat of the sun'... This song fits this day!

In the morning I didn't remember what day it was. I was walking with my CD-player. Sun was shining. And then this song started to play... Only at that moment I realized that today's the 17th of June.

On the 17th of June 1981 Pink Floyd step out on the stage at Earls Court, London for the last time with Roger Waters, he will never perform live with the band again!! The show is a complete performance of ''The Wall''.

''This day's an invitation, and its just for you,
You've got a reservation for the 17th of June''
Alphaville - ''Summer In Berlin''

It should also be noted that the final lyric of ''Summer In Berlin'' is..
''Its a summer by the Wall''
Coincidence???????? Probably, but lets not forget the mention of ''A Saucerful Of Secrets'' (the second Pink Floyd album) in ''Summer Rain''.

Thats a very interesting point !!!
Anyone knows when the lyrics of SIB were written ?
If it was before 1981 than its not logical but if not....
Anyway, i think that SIB is more a political song.
Probably just a coincidence but who knows....

Well, did you know that there used to be a street in former West-Berlin called the 17th of June (Straße des 17. Juni) which passed the Ernst-Reuter-Platz...

Adiville
17 Jan 2003, 11:20
I was there....... [wink]

hardin
17 Jan 2003, 12:44
strange

discordia
17 Jan 2003, 14:47
Hardin, why do you think it is strange? My point was, that maybe it has something to do with the lyrics of Summer in Berlin.

hardin
17 Jan 2003, 15:47
yes I understand that... but I think it was a strange name on a street =)

discordia
17 Jan 2003, 16:49
The name probably comes from the people's uprising in the German Democratic Republic, which happened on the 17th of June, 1953.

see this, if you want to see something really fun that relates to Alphaville, about 17th of June :): http://www.uni-trier.de/uni/agnm/www/raska/berlin.htm

HAPPY 17TH OF JUNE EVERYONE [beer][beer][beer]

SUMMER IN BERLIN
this days an invitation
and it's just for you
you've got a reservation
for the 17th of june
open your eyes and let the sun break in for a while
there may be something that you've never seen inside
feel how your heart beats like a
heavy machine
the sound of the traffic is like a
silent dream
the dust in the park, the exhaust from the cars
ascends in that heated afternoon
you touch a sweaty body
summer in berlin, it's alright
the day feel so tired from the led in the air and the fire in the sky
life seemed to be a fault of grace but it's okay
it gave you a kiss in the middle of the crossroads
summer in berlin, it's alright
the heat of the sun which is stored in the pavement feels so fine
here stands the innocent and there it comes oh so wild
that's when you're longing for a summer by the wall
summer in berlin, it's okay

Spent some of the day at lunch with my gf, then took my time before having to check into work later in the afternoon. Pretty slow, and was quite disappointed with the basketball game that aired that night.

I was so hoping Boston would stay in the lead and take the title. Darn Lakers...

Kaz

Today, I'm going to Straße des 17. Juni...
