View Full Version : Have you ever heard a good cover of an AV song ?
Maybe it´s just me, but I have as of yet never heard a good cover of an Alphaville song! DJ Space, Karel Gott and Guano Apes is not worth anything in my opinion. Maybe it´s because I see it as some kind of "blasphemy" if someone dare to cover a song by Alphaville. If they decide to do it, the version has to be extremely good. But anyway I doubt anyone can make an Alphaville song better than AV!!!

you're right poul,
this exactly why there will never be a good cover version to alphaville - because they are the best !!!
:-)
Adi.
@ville - forever and ever.

Think i made som mistake...Infact I have heard a good coverversion of an alphaville song. It´s a swedish band called "artwork". They are really big here in Sweden.
Ha ha Joachim (of Artwork)
Good one!
I look very much forward to hearing "We heard the call" and hope that I afterwards can change my opinion. I´m sure that all of you have tried to do the covers in the "AV spirit".

You did understand my joke :-) I hope and believe you will enjoy "we heard the call". Sad you wont join to Hamburg...
I´ll try to be there for a chat some time during the evening.
And Joachim, I really like the sound of the 2 Artwork songs that I have downloaded. Will there be more? Perhaps full versions?

Wow, last post was made in 2000.
I have heard a lot of AV covers, in the best case it was 'nice song' but never better than the real stuff.... Maybe AV should made the covers themself... [smile2]
"Japan is weit" by Sandra is probably my favourite AV cover.

True, that is a very good cover. One of the few...

But you haven´t heard my drunk version of AVOL [wink][laugh][laugh]....or maybe you have?

Hmmm... I think I have heard it once.... Maybe I was to drunk to remember it?[laugh]
I think both Laura Branigans and Tiffanys version of Forever Young is amazing.
Youth Group's cover of Forever Young is really, really, REALLY good.
My favorite is Laura Branigan Forever Young - she was so beautiful and she sang it so well, I still miss her....
I love Randy Bush's voice on SLAM, and some tracks from We Heard The Call are very, very good, like Moonbeam, Go! or Antilles.

I have always liked the B-Charme cover of Forever Young. There are a few others but I don't remember them at the moment.
An interesting, technically good but not emotionally good cover is the Marshall and Alexander cover of The Impossible Dream.

When it comes to FY covers, Branigan could not be beat.
One thing, though. I wish I could have caught who had redone it recently. There was an ad for a series of shows on E!--one of our cable networks--and another band covered it for the occasion. And a fine time it was for me not to have my glasses on so I could see it...
Maybe I'd better do a search. Excuse me a moment...

That was probably the Australian band Youth Group who took the cover to Number 1 in Australia - though I could be mistaken. Its probably the cover that has done the best and it was the most recent that I have heard.

^ Eh, maybe. I'd never really heard YG's version, so I'd believe it.

I've never heard a convincing cover of Alphaville and that's due to Marian's voice which simply cannot be topped.

Hello everybody, I'm the new one :)
Actually I don't like covers. I even didn't like an AV cover, BUT... there is this one remix which is really mind-blowing.
I'm talking about the Victory of Love 2players remix by Sebastian Komor.
God, I'm truly loving it, although I don't like techno at all! But this remix is different... I like the rhythm and the fact he kept the original song and Marian's voice.
I have a question... does anybody know where I can listen to the song on the net? I don't want to download it, I just want to listen to it online and show some friends... they have samples on amazon but only short snips, 30 seconds, you know!
Anyway, this seems to be a nice board... think I'll stay a little bit :)

I still maintain that a good rock band should cover the song Days Full of Wonder.....

Seems to be a false friend from Swedish: don't you mean you put so much sprit into it? [wink][smile2]
russharvey
02 Jun 2008, 21:23
no I think he meant spirits.... as in alcohol or in Peter's case...... BEER!

I was just about to say the same! [tonque] awesome!
Laura Branigan is good, Youth group sucks hard! Youth groups version kinda rapes whole forever young in my opinion. Okay, maybe that was little strong expression, but anyway.
