I just got the 2001 remix of FY,and I think its absolutely fantastic.
I felt like I had to write something about the song ,because it is the most emotional and smartest one that AV has ever written.
when I loaded it down,I didnt think of that I nowadays have big probs in listening to it since my granny died..I always move from track 5 to 7 when I listen to the FY record or else I'd probably start crying.
and this almost happened now when I listened to the remix*2001..
the song is very personal to me in other ways too..it was the first song ever that ive heard from AV..it was a summer in Finalnd, and I strongly remember it because my uncle, who was a bit drunk, stood by the radio and listened to this wonderful track while he sang along and cried.
at that point ,I remember that I really wished that we could be Forever Young, just to make my uncle happy again.

Forever Young (the original version) means a lot to me. There was a time I could not live without hearing FY one time a day. I loved it from the beginning of being an AV fan and today it is still one of my favourite songs.
But I also like the demo versions on DS.

I don't have a special story at all.... its just a wonderful song to listen to!

Forever young has also beeen my first Alphaville song and it was also the one which brought me to buying the first harvest CD ONE YEAR LATER!!!(SHAME ON ME) Then the addiction started at once:) I havent heard the remix yet as there is something uncombinable with my ISDN-modem: It plays it far too fast. Yesterday night I realized what the song REALLY means, at least for me and at the moment. I have been sitting in my favourite cocktail bar with my best friend who has been to Ireland for one year in which we havent seen each other. We sat talking all night about life and how we evolve in it and at some point I realized that having lived through pretty difficult times we are grown up in so many ways but nevertheless there are 60years left to start whatever we want or just to sit here and drink cocktails. And that in these decades to come there will be things in us that we can preserve that will never change. I spoke it out and my friend replied "forever young". There it is!

2 years ago the only song i knew by AV was the amaizing BIJ.
Then one day i've heard a fantastic song on the radio.
It was so powerful and catchy that i had to look for it on the internet.
I typed FOREVER YOUNG and discovered a whole new world.... :)
There is something about this song - the lyrics, the music - it is perfect and brings you to tears !!!

it always does to me..
i was asked to play and sing it on our "finishing 9th class concert"
but i said that i cant do it because i'll only end up crying on the stage.
even if i love that song,i hate the radiostations when they play FY on my 80's night.
cause i get so depressed

FY brought me to AV. And because of that FY will always be the most special song for me...ever.
-I love you dangerously-
I feel what AV_defender felt 2 years ago.
just realised I still can't listen to FY. I was listening to the album today and had to skip from 5 to 7 again.
this song was never very special for me... but now I even can't listen to it. [cry]
Although I loved BIJ when it came out in the UK in 1984, because Alphaville had little exposure here I, as well as a lot of others, thought they had disappeared.
It was when I heard FY on the radio (the station that plays AV all the time for me now coincidentally) that my true love affair with Alphaville began. Then the Internet came and I found all of you lot and a wonderful community to belong to and contribute to.
FY makes me happy, sad, tearful, joyful all at the same time. I love this song so much. It will always have a very special place in my heart and I will never rate it amongst favourite songs etc. because it is in a league of its own in my opinion.
Forever Young is my most favorite song of all time...[love2][love2][love2], started me out as an Alphaville fan back in '84, even if I didn't know who the artist was...
As a little girl, whenever I heard Forever Young, which somehow was popular enough to make it onto the pop music stations in Portland, Maine, US, where I grew up, I had sensations of being in the clouds, the opening chords were like rays of sunshine, and the singer's voice was that of an angel. Forever Young so perfectly fit the way I was as a child, the incurable dreamer (truly, Agi!!![laugh]), and transformed the ephemeral dream into something a little bit more tangible, music. Forever Young, for me, represents the fantasy existing and growing in the confines of reality.
Now, two decades later, it is all the more moving, because the ideals of the eight year old will always exist within me, and no matter how my outlook on life changes, the pursuit of the dream will always be a part of me. The original fantasy stays forever young [wink].
It reminds me of standing in a supermarket in Switzerland on an exchange trip. I'd heard and loved Big in Japan, and I stood there transfixed as the song played. I knew immediately that this was Alphaville, although I'd only heard one of their songs. I recognised Marian's voice. Funny how a supermarket can suddenly become beautiful. I rushed to a shop with a record department and bought the only Alphaville single they had (BIJ)and I was a fan from that moment.
The first time I experienced FY was in ī84 when I watched AV performing on the german TV Show "Formel
Eins". I remember a dark green drape in the background, and the combination between the chords and that voice and that impressing ambience put me in a mood I cannot describe, but I always visualize
when I listen to it.

Forever Young is the light in my live that brings the joy and pleasure when I am down.
It's my inspiration, my guide, ... it charges me up like electricty charges a battery.

Isnīt amazing how one song can change peopleīs lives forever?
The perfect quote for this:
And always I think, where we might have gone, if we never met inside this song.
Avil,
I simply love that line! And I agree with you completely. What power music has to affect people's lives...[smile]
@ Avil
Couldn't have put it better myself, but then again, could any of us?
It's truly wonderful how Alphaville's music can bring together many people of different backgrounds and nationalities in this way - like one big, happy family.

It's quite scary to think, what would have happened, if I'd not been in that supermarket on that day. I like to think that I'd have found Alphaville's music somehow, but it might have taken a while. I've met some good friends "inside this song."
We are all so alike, but still so different.
Thatīs what creates the wonderful world we are living in, or should we maybe call it a song? Have you ever thought about it? How life could be a song? Either you start out very powerful-all thru the song-and then fades out... or maybe got its highlights every little now and then, maybe in the chorus and then a big ending. Who knows? We are all singing different songs, but weīre all playing the same melody!

You are all right.
Although we have different religeons, different values in live, live in country's with so much different cultures I feel myself so connected to all of you.
It's like we all belong to one big universe, all children of one and the same universal daddy.
' leaving the ones i loved is like leaving the one they want me to be

Yes I think the same ībout FY, fantastic dream is a very good too, I actually play it right now :), FY is so come and beautiful. I listen to that record very very often, if you wanīt to know...
"fantastic dream is a very good ;record; too" excuse me
Some people live for a religeons, other peoples for music; thats live; FY helps some people to get easy with their dreams and hopes. When the music stops; the psycical life stops!!! For some AV fans, I think this is real...
fulolf, welcome to the forum!
I guess you are right, I donīt think I would handle life if I didnīt have music, especially Alphaville. So itīs a big part of my life, and FY means everything to me...everything.
Thanks Avil,
Well, Iīve more favorites of AV music then just FY, but FY is one of my favorite AV records...
Forever Young keeps you young.
Welcome to the forum pcam3
I moved your post from the "Sister Sun" topic to this topic about "Forever young".
To comment on your post...
I won't exactly say that "FY" keeps me young because there's so much other "grown-up-stuff" pulling me in the other direction, but it is certainly a VERY important song to me!!!

Ok, time to learn a new song?[wink]
It´s time to learn Big In Japan perhaps maybe
hello there friends of mine. I love the song Forever young, most of us do on this forum obiously ha!. The music is magical, soft. The lyrics are beautiful, also upseting and disturbing at the same time. I get scared of this song, the thought of only having 'one life', short life, conjures up fear of vanishing. Does anyone actually know the meaning of this song? (it mentions a bomb).

I never fully understood FY until I fully understood that one day I (we all) will die...what this means, what this implies.
But I think besides an allegory on the naive optimism and innocent indifference of youth it is also a criticism on how being non-political and indifferent may foster fascism (especially when you look at the original lyrics, see DS).

Ok, some more meaning for this song :) I let my girlfriend listen to it, and now we listen to it quite lot and it always reminds us from each other and a few sweet moments.
FY is like my whole childhood summed up in one song ... a feeling of ethereal possibility. I try to keep in touch with that even as I get older!

At one point i only played FY, no song had a more powerful atmosphere. This song is simply the greatest song ever written, underlooked bands like AV alaways make the best music but are never looked upon the eyes by the general public.

Forever Young is a song that has as many layers as a onion. As I get older and experience life's many challenges the song takes on a different meaning for each milestone. That is why the song is always relevant and truly ageless and never tiring to hear.
