I think that Alphaville have a kind of deep religion.
Christs or maybe New Wave...

Salvation is a very religous album...
...only watch the cover,
(even the cover of The Breathtaking Blue)

Inside Out, Guardian Angel, Spirit Of The Age, Soul Messiah & New Horizons...

then... Universal Daddy, Heaven or Hell, Afternoons In Utopia and of course Jerusalem!

To Jerusalem, we pray... it's time to meet you there.
Universal Daddy (God) to everyone.

And many other songs is influenced by God, Heaven, Skies, Glory, Palaces and Angels.

I love it! :)

Alphaville has had songs dedicated to Timothy Leary, John Lilly, and Aleister Crowley, among others. All the ones I mentioned are seekers of Inner truths, ones not easily molded into religeons. I would certainly say that the lyrics ave a Thelemic bent to them, "Do what you will shall be our destiny" is certainly a de-victorianization of "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law" which is from Aleister Crowley, the man who once held the undeserved title of the evilest man on earth.
S.M.I2.L.E. is a formula from Timothy Leary
Space
Migration
Intelligence increase (I squared)
Life
Extension

Sounds like a recipie to get off the planet on to a new planet.
John Lilly did lots of work with psychoactives and perception, as well as work withsensory deprivation chambers. He also worked with Dolphins, and communication with them.

it's interesting ..all those things are extremely interesting to me, and for many other AV fans as well. although I can't speak for everybody. I just wonder what it is about the music and lyrics that captures my imagination and those mysterious inferences seem so familiar and make so much sense to me even though on a conscious level I wouldn't be able to explain it to you.
or maybe I'm just crazy!<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

I just believe there's a connection between
Atlantic Popes/Alphaville and religion.

I mean if you're a pope you is very high rated in the church, I guess...

And then the song "Faith"...
and the fact that Marian are decorated with angelwings on the Dreamscapes cover.
...this is my soul!
