The best/worst AV-video?

For you who have some or any of the videos of AV. Which one is the best/worst?
Actually, I don´t know, but I like the diamond in Forever Young and Jet Set seem so funny. SLAM is beautiful...

But Red Rose...I don´t like the song and I don´t like the video either.

Well, I've only seen the videos from off this webpage and Forever Young - so I'm kind of limited in my knowledge (but I'm currently trying to get my arse downtown to pick somethng up for poul e so I can finally see them!! hehe)

But so far I think Sensations is the best cause it's quite entertaining and silly all at the same time.

I would say the live trailer is the best though..hehe...but I don't think that counts as a "video"

Among the videos with AV inside,I only know the ones for "Big in Japan" and "Sensations",but I could never imagine one better than "Big in Japan" because of its definite "architecture":the combination between song and images is perfect and I think it all expresses a certain "feeling of the 80's",with those colours,those artigianal effects,those exotic clothes wore by Marian and the others.

Avil! You can download Sensations off this site. Or now that I've said that, maybe there is a computer incompatability and that's why you can't download it? Speaking of downloads...are there any plans to put up oh say...Big In Japan for video download? Willy? Pleaaaaaaaaase! I'll send you a nice cake in the mail if you do! hehe... There is no way MuchMusic will play any alphaville videos. In fact, even back in the early eighties they only really played Forever Young (which luckily I have on video!)

Synth-POP festival in Moscow 11.06.98 Live show recorded by TV crew - 80 minutes. I'll be getting it in a week or so and I can't bloody wait. Then I'll finally be able to see what Alphaville looks like live!

And Willy - THANK YOU. I really like the Video for Big In Japan. I like it better than Forever Young and Sensations. And it looks great even if I put it on full screen - most videos just get too digital. Fantastic job!

The Worst video award goes to:

UNIVERSAL DADDY.

Nothing is worse. I mean Jet Set is cheesy too, but it is not as laughable as Universal Daddy.

I roll on the floor anytime I see it. Marian almost looks like a clown with what he's wearing..hehe..

I just think it could honestly win as one of *the* cheesiest videos I have ever seen in my lifetime. Well, that and "fishhead" hehe..

But they only tell you stories about the time in which they have been made. If AV would make a video today, we would say 'that video was crap' in ten or twenty years, too. Videos only suit into the time in which they are made.

When AV were in Israel there was a special about them on TV and the man said : "now we'll see the BIJ video clip - very old but pure 80's ! They dont make clips ilke this anymore..."

I looked him very angry and I said: "Alphaville" He said..."Oh...ok. It seems so strange...so old and that faces..." I said: "This is something amazing...but you can`t understand that because your fave artist is Darude (Finnish techno/dance artist...horrible =() He said:"Yeah...But that song is good." "Yep. I thought that nobody saw less videos than I did. But now I see that Micki is like me.
I've only seen Jet Set, Summer Rain and Big in Japan'92 (in very bad quality). But my brother says that I saw Dance With Me... He says that I was sitting next to him when he saw it some years ago. Recently I saw little except from this video and since then I have huge dialogs with myself - part of me is saying that I know it and other one that I don't know it. My memory is sooo holeful...

I finally got to see the video as well :) (veery happy), and I think it was really funny and cute :)...hehehe, I think it was a really cool idea, the dog transfered them into a virtual world inside the TV, and the way he switched channels, they jumped from a channel to another...and when they got back, the poor dog had to run away, as Marian didn't seem so happy... *lol*

Some thoughts:

Remembering that song was written in short time... Video is so simple because they didn't have much time and money to make it any better.

Knowing that Marian couldn't stand that song… They didn't want to make it any better.

Watching the video with attention... You can see how much bored they were! Frank "played" synths so apathetic... [indifferent] Bernd looked somewhere at the ceiling... And at last Marian tried not to look into the camera. But when he did his eyes could tell all that he felt about it even if he smiled! Especially in second chorus where he sings "for a while" there’s desperation in his eyes and question: when the hell this filming ends? [timebomb]

And I think it was pretty cold there! [cold]

I am getting a new computer in the spring. (FINALLY) I hope to be able to hook up my VCR and record the videos to my hard drive. If I ever do get around to this, I'd be happy to make copies on a CDrom for everyone. I'd even copy TV appearances. I have downloaded a few from file sharing programs (ones that I haven't seen before - even TV shows!) and some of those are great. If only I had a webpage with oodles of space..

Does anyone here have direct connect? (file sharing program) If you have it go to www.depecheconnect.espique.de and there are usually lots of AV videos there. But you have to be able to share 1.5 gig of stuff to get in.. That is where I got the TV appearence stuff.

I just want a good copy of the Red Rose video dammit!!

Ok, I thought the anime version of Forever Young was odd, but today I watched a karaoke version of Forever Young that basically consisted of three women in swimsuits prancing around on a beach on the Gold Coast as the words to the song scrolled across the screen. It was not even sung by AV - although they get the credit for the song at the beginning of the clip....but hey, at least the girls were pretty!!

It's OK when Marian has a microphone, it was the style of the 80's.
I'm glad it isnt't golden as it is in SLAM.
The sceneries in night time are good.
Bernd plays the synth the way it would be his last time to play it.

I still think Fools is by far the best video, no doubt the most expensive, with really cool scenaries and filming. Sensations is funny, Marian makes fun of everything, so that´s probably my 2nd favorite AV video.

Like Forever Young, sure I´ve seen better footages, but still, I don´t see it as a different video when it comes to quality.
Professional or not, Dance with me remains my favourite video.

Jet set is a playback and it's been filmed in the german tv-show.
I have many times been thinking how does it feel for the the singer of the band when a playback is going on. It's not real,but maybe it doesn't have to be real especially when the band is as a guest in the popular tv-show.
Jet set is a good shot because of the enthusiasm of the band members.
Marian has million kinds of expressions on his face all the time.
Funniest thing is,when Marian in the end of the song doesn't know should he sing"jet set-society,liberty,luxury" "or let's go to the moon", then he chooses the previous. It's OK.
As a matter of fact,I think it's a good thing that everything isn't always so perfect.

A few points:

1. Always knew it was Marian in that clip on DWM - never had any question about that, so my eyesight's not failing me yet...

2. Sensations cracked me up the first time I saw it and I love to watch it over and over again!

3. The video for One Step.. is so atmospheric - love it!

4. I think the BIJ video, although dated, is so naff!

5. FY is slightly better...or is it?

6. I think Marian looks ill on the SLAM video, Bernd looks cheeky and Frank looks quite huggable actually.

7. BIJ '92 is actually quite good and matches the mood of the music well I think.

8. When I have some more points to make I'll come back LOL!

P.S. I met Nick Rhodes in 1981 (had a major crush on him then!)and, sorry girls, he's not all he's cracked up to be - in fact he's quite big headed, and that was then! And I can vouch for the make up...his lippy was brighter than mine!

I LOVE Forever Young!!! So it was made a long time ago, but that does not detract from the magic, rather, maybe even makes it more so! I love the part when everyone passes through the diamond door into the shining light, entering into the dream, as I see it...[star][star][star]

Jet Set cracks me up, and makes me want to start dancing, and I love Dance With Me too...I LOVE how Marian looks in DWM. Soooo cute...[love]. It started on Monday when i met a friend at a party and he gave me back the video of SONGLINES i gave him a couple of months ago.
Anyway, last night i opened the box and to my surprise i found there a video tape contains songs for little kids.
He replaced my Songlines with one of his kids's tapes [laugh]
Now i ask you, how can anyone compare between AV's videos to little kids stuff ?! [laugh]

I think a DVD of all the videos would be great just because so few of them are available in the trading ring in good condition. They are generally poorer condition than say trying to get DM videos. And as it turns out, Russ lent me one of his PAL videos to transfer so after all these years he could see what's on it. (hehe..) And guess what??? On it was the best condition Red Rose video I've seen yet!! :)

Been watching SLAM video a lot lately and I think I've changed my mind a bit...OK, so Marian does still look ill on it and his make-up is a bit weird, but I think he looks ok now *may just have finally lost the plot* [laugh]

Ok, I've seen What Is Love video today, and I do agree that Marian looked great there! yeah! Only I was "feeling kind of seasick tryin' to follow" him [laugh] Really, I shouldn't have watched it just after 90 minutes of reading a book in a stuffy bus that was starting and stopping all the time because of traffic jams! [laugh] I'll give the video another chance when my head is better... I neeeeeed to see it again! [smile2]
