28.09.2010 - Today, the rough cut of Alphaville new video for the single "I die for you today" seen - has become great. Könnta you looking forward to it, to see women big time as a bride. Below you can see me but first in my new GSG9 suit that has to do of course also to do with the story ..... was shot last Friday and it was just time for me Marian's appearance at our 15th anniversary in Berlin to return the favor. A wonderful day of shooting full of great people and situations .......

On first impressions, I'm not so impressed...
Won't give it all away as not everyone has got it yet.
EDIT: OK, suffice it to say that the start of it took away any darkness involved in the lyric. It does get better as it goes on but it's a bit cheesy for my liking.

Oh no what a let down. It's AWFUL!!!! Like a feckin' Steps video. Where are Martin and the boys? So disappointed......and too much beige at the beginning.
Beige, poncy and Steps...
I like the video, not the greatest ever though...
@jetset
Nice screenshot,thanks.
I watched the video over and over again.
Me too. I still don't like it as a whole but the part where Jana goes into the room dressed up in combat gear and Marian in handcuffs...from there, it's ok. Shame that's almost the end of the video. That darker theme would have worked so much better for this song without the beige, poncy, Steps part...IMO.
The beige part of the video is look like Mamma Mia the movie:)

I asked where is it at, not how you did it. IMHO, 1,79€ is not a lot to pay for the original download. I'm strapped for cash too but I reckoned that I could stretch to 1,79€. After all, I waste more than that on fags every day.

I actually answered both.
It is on DW-TV's site, in the "TIPPclip" segment.
I only extracted the download link from the source.
But eventually it didn't work as the download stopped at 54% and I think it isn't gonna go any further.
Well, I guess I'll wait a bit more for an official YT premiere (if there will be any) or...

It's not on US Itunes[angry]!!
Guess I'll have to wait for the CD/DVD combination, I hope it's on there. If anyone at Universal is listening, great way to encourage piracy and limit sales! As it this record is going to face some very tough competition in November (there are some major projects coming from other companies) so a head start would be nice...
Probably because the single and album are only being released in Germany. You can see the video on the DW-TV link in this thread though.

Enough talking about who did what to watch the video.
Let's say something about the video itself!
Well, the video is not as good as I expected.
It's not as bad as "Big in Japan" video, but they didn't do justice to the song.
But I'm happy that AV are back in business [smile2]

I don't like it. It loses any atmosphere the song ever had. And that was debatable at the start anyway. Marian looks very uncomfortable in it and where are the other guys? However, as others have said, it's a video and it's better than nothing. Wonder where it's going to get airplay? Somehow, I don't see it on MTV...

Thanks, Patryn! Now I can finally watch it as well [smile2].
Just would like to defend this video from all the critics here [smile]. It's not bad, for me it is even good! Of course, it doesn't possess with the same "depth and height" as "For a million"-video, for example, and isn't actually unique... but, you know, and the very song is very simple... Thus, the clip and the song suit each other absolutely all right; the same goes about the coincidence in the plot, mood and atmosphere.
Don't think that its "cheapness", as someone said here, is meaningful. Not everything that is cheap is bad, and far not everything that is expensive is good... There are loads of examples of it...
The target was to convey the idea of the song, not simply to pose and grimace senselessly before the video-camera, as it is in fashion now..., and the band coped with it perfectly! What's nice, there is no this Hollywoodian tragedism and pathos round the situation, as it could be expected....
These pink-beige colours are used purposefully and don't spoil the video. The whole situation is based on the confrontation and contradiction of the sufferings of the main heroes. For her the world is in optimistic happy colours (she throws in her lot with the beloved man), for him everything around is as if grey, colourless, he has got the feeling of emptiness - everything has ruined (he's losing the woman he loves). That's why he is in this empty room and later "meets" her near some destoyed building. Her wedding dressing is similized to the dressing into the military camouflage. Follow the line "You kill me blindly...". All is a visual metaphor (that is, in fact, the explanation for[B] Nicole, as she was interested...[wink] ). I like the way they presented the thought.
To sum it up, the work, to my mind, is pretty successful![smile]

First of all I must say that there was a long time when I didn't think that I would ever see a new professional music video with Alphaville again. So, before you start to think critical about the actual content, think back and realise what a fantastic time this is to be an Alphaville fan [wink]
But OK, the video. I think it's quite all-right and I would actually say that it is one of their (actually, "his" would be more appropriate) better videos all in all. That's not really a feat though considering how terrible most Alphaville videos are (Sounds Like A Melody and Universal Daddy, anyone?).
It's not just a performance of the song but a story to it, which is becoming more and more rare these days as the budgets gets lower and lower.
Worth mentioning is that they seem to have had some problems with Marian's lip-syncing. His moments are very brief and when they're there you can see that he is not in constant sync with the vocals.
And lastly I wish they would have done something more of the vocal effect which is 3:05 into the song. It could have been done way stronger than that and I know exactly what I would have done [tonque]
OK, I've looked at the video without the soundtrack and this is what I get from it.
She's coerced him into marrying her. He doesn't really want to (the gun and handcuffs bit and the part where he's alone and kicks over the chair thinking what the hell am I doing). She goes to meet him and he shows her he wants to marry her and then she sets off the grenade, as if OK, piss me around and I'll let go. So, is she going to spend the rest of their lives together holding on to that bloody thing?

That's not a demerit, somebody should "carry this flag" [smile]. I also often look for the logical explanation but not that much.
And I like the allegorism of this video...
I must say at least there is a (small) scenario - which is not always the case for all music videos- and a clever conclusion with the pull ring. The parallel stories make me think of the movie "Mr & Mrs Smith".

Ok. I have watched again the video. The first time I just listened to the music and looked at Marian. Now my sensation is this: He will marry to a beautiful woman, full of beauty and tenderness but the reality is another. She is bad and just want to finish with him. That´s why they meet in a horrible place, because that´s the reality and he is living in a dream. Finally she wants to kill him (well, she makes a mess of his life).
Maybe if I watch the video again, I will find another explanation [smile2]
Cheers and have a wonderful day!

Very well put!
Every film-type video has a storyline. There's nothing wrong in trying to figure it out. It could be figurative, it could be literal, it could be allegorical. Who cares? Art is created for making comments on. How people choose to comment depends on how the art moves them and how they perceive it. There are no right or wrong answers.
That was deep Kaz! But true, I agree!
I find it interesting but I have another angle in seeing it from the point of view of my job. Where are the celebrant and witnesses? Good thing that they aren't there!
Apart from that I've not made up my mind what I think. I prefer it to watch the video rather than listen to that recording of the song.
As monboy wrote. There havent been that many Alphaville videos at all, and not so many good. This is their first real video in 18 years so iam glad for that.
And the last years havent been so good when it comes to videos overall as the budget often are very low and alphaville dosent really have Lady gaga status. I think Fools is ther best video.
Is it just me that notice that they slown down the song? Dont know if i like that, bit i guess mayby it fits the video.
The beginning is a bit to slow with the dressing scene feels more lika a Commercial clip for something. I like how they work with lights and stuff and the combat scenes and the end is pretty awsome. The scenes where Marian just stand and singing dosent look that good all the time and mayby they could have film it another way there
I liked all of Alphaville's videos! I think they were great! But they were hard to figure out-some of them. Like Universal Daddy, hard to figure out. And same with I die for you Today, I also couldn't figure that one out too. I know everyone has their own opinions on things, but the videos is what made the song.
What about switching your brains off, let your imagination wander, and just enjoy the video [smile]
Okay, I like that better! [smile]

You want truly artful videos but you want a commercial success for beloved band. These things are too often mutually exclusive in modern show-biz whereas this particular video is not even bereft of some not so senseless flood of thoughts inside. :)

Nobody said they want artful. Just to manage to achieve the right tone would be an improvement.
Indeed.
But I suppose this comes down not to whether the video corresponds the right tone of the lyrics of the song but to whether the spirit of the song corresponds the problems of its lyrics. AV made the jolly dancing song out of the lyrics with some hidden deep meaning. So no wonder - after this we get this kind of video.

The video works for me. I give it a thumbs up as well.
I think the ending is very inventive and was probably the basis for the entire video. Most videos start with a visual concept and work back from there. That's why they don't always match the story the lyrics are telling.
Hey, its a new original video by Alphaville! What more can I ask for?

He has some visions that the girl is coming in pink dress and there's a hug but his eyes look disappointed. It's a vision - in fact he's waiting in cuffs and if she comes in pink she must search in her hidden combat pockets for a key.If she comes in combat boots - he's ready to "die for you today" . The pull-ring is a great idea - he is pretty clear "I take you anyway"
