we are happy to announce the CATCHING RAYS ON GIANT Release Party on
NOVEMBER 18, 2010 in
BERLIN, GERMANY
Venue: Quasimodo http://www.quasimodo.de/
Doors open at 19 h

You are invited to party with us! Band and crew will also be there and a few
songs will even be presented unplugged. Of course you will also get your
unique chance to listen to the brandnew tunes of the new album "Catching
Rays On Giant" which will be released at Midnight (November 19, 2010)!
If you like to join, please send your name asap (and the name the one person
who will possibly accompany you) to moonbase@alphaville.de
Of course you are our guest that night, but please understand that we need a
binding info if you are able to join.
There is a limited capacity and vague/non-binding reservations would be
unfair for seriously interested people you won't get a ticket in the end.
Since there is no waiting list - first come, first served.

As for coming to Berlin, I am a maybe since I'd have to convince my wife its a good idea! Maybe we could say its my 40+1 birthday party? Anyway, I want to come.. need to see, if I can come!

Also, amazon.com does not have the album yet, so maybe whoever is placing orders could order a few extra singles and albums once the party is confirmed!

Oh yes ... and Richani knows a really nice pub - this one has nearly been her hotel room last time. ;-)

I might if I could, but not at that hotel it's too expensive for me. What about the hostel we stayed in last time? It was reasonable, had its own bar that we used. remember Prague and how complicated that got with people chasing all over town not knowing where others were. For me it would be important that we had a place with a bar that could be a meeting point.

I would be up for a party any place too... but like probably many on this list a little time to plan (and save up some money, and get travel arrangements in order... oh and I think my passport expires this year - doh!) would be advisable. I also agree that we should wait and get some kind of official word from Moonbase. December, if that works out, actually sounds intriguing... I hear from some of you that Berlin is beautiful in December!! I would love to reconnect with some of the wonderful people I met back in SLC 1999, and meet all of you that couldn't make that show as well! Anyway, as much as I would love to click "Yes", I am going to have to say "Maybe" for now.

Funny thing: I was going to be on a business trip to Japan for the release date of CROG. For some "internal organizational reasons" the business trip got postponed and is now scheduled for ... the week of the new release date of CROG. the date for the party depends on AV's schedule and that seems very busy. I dont think we should put too much pressure on the organizer - just be happy that we will have an official release party with AV ... [IMO]

Yes, I agree as well. I certainly don't mean to criticize, but being that this is the first new studio album release in 13 years, I should think they would want to publicize it with a big media launch event, concert, fireworks, champagne, party til dawn, more champagne, dinner and introspective conversation with Mr. Gold, etc................ ;-)

I will not make any plans until you hear back from Claudia. I can wait a week or so, since it shouldn't be too hard to get fares to Berlin. There is only a small window between going to Berlin for November 20-21st and Dec 15th, which is when airfares start to get crazy for Christmas. It looks like the band is obviously busy in Moscow for November 20th....so we'll have to see.

I'd love to go, but one website was quoting me £2000 + just for the flight. I'm in Inverness all day on Wednesday and there are no flights from there. So I'd have to travel 3-4 hours to Glasgow on Thursday and then... there are no flights from there either, not feasible ones anyway. With a month or two's planning I might have got something organised. I suppose at least for the two or 3 that get there there will be no queues at the bar, but Alphaville might wonder what happened to their once loyal and increasingly disillusioned fan base.

I say poor marketing on the part of Universal. They should have announced the party at the same time they confirmed the release date of the album (or even the single). Now it's too late, people have other plans, or simply can't make it with this short notice. I guess there was not enough pre-orders of CROG to justify more publicity, I guess. I wonder if there's any way of knowing the numbers?

I agree. It's bad for that reason and because it's on a Thursday when not even die-hard fans in Germany, even in Berlin, can leave their jobs and other responsibilities at the drop of a hat to go. I'm completely gutted.

Even if they'd announced it as soon as they knew the release date had been moved to 19th Nov, that would have made a load of difference for those people who have to plan to travel a long distance and for whom it costs a lot more now. For me, it wouldn't happen anyway, not on a Thursday.

Here's the thing: technically I could make it after work on Thursday but I'd leave Köln at 16.30 and not be in Berlin until around 21.00 or so. I think that's a bit late tbh. I could take the Friday off to travel back too. But to have to work on Thursday and then travel and go directly to the party after 21.00 is pushing it a bit for me. Not as young as I used to be [smile2]

Plus train tickets are around the 100€ mark or so one way now. If it had been announced earlier, that might have made a difference in terms of costs.

They probably at first were thinking if they would really make a party or not. Then they were looking for a venue on an Alphaville time. And announced it only when everything was finally ready.
