One of those artists that everybody have their opinion about is Madonna. There is so many people that hate her. I for one don´t care that much for the music she makes nowadays, but I have to say that I really liked her back in the eightees.

My favourite Madonna songs include:

Crazy for you
Express yourself
Like a prayer
Like a virgin
Cherish
Material girl
Into the groove
Vogue

A lot of really great "long versions" have been made of Madonna-songs. My favourites are "Like a prayer" and "Express yourself".

You can certainly say a lot about Madonna!

To start with: She is a really strong business woman, and I am certain I would not like her if I met her.

Next: A comparision between Madonna and Britney:

Singing: A big difference, Madonna has nowadays a trained and good voice; Britney has a very lousy voice.

Composing: Madonna is the co-composer for almost every song she has recorded; Britney has (as far as I know) never composed anything.

Songs: Madonna has released very many songs (at least a bit over 100) and I would say that maybe 20 of them are more than good (and maybe 20 of them are really bad, like "Music", most songs on "Erotica" and on "I´m Breathless"); The only good way I have ever heard a "Britney song", was when the group Travis played "Baby one more time" live (well I saw it on TV).

Brains: Madonna must have one; I can´t say if Britney have one.

End of the comparision.


If you want to listen to some good songs by Madonna, listen to the albums "Like a prayer" (with for example "Like a prayer", "Oh father", "Till death do us part" and "Spanish eyes") and "Ray of light" (with for example "Frozen", "Skin", "The power of good-bye", "To have and not to hold" and my favourite "Sky fits Heaven")!

"Like a Virgin" was the first album I ever had (on TAPE [laugh]), I LOVED Madonna as a kid, created dance routines with my friend to that album and we spun around for the tolerant parents to watch (we were 7 and 8). Faves are Material Girl, Angel, and Like a Virgin.

(Our other dancing record was the Chipmunks...as in Alvin, Simon, and Theodore...anyone remember them??? [laugh][laugh][laugh]). At the time it all seemed so natural, now I think, Madonna and The Chipmunks??? Nice combination...LOL

But anyway, I haven't heard her new album as of yet but I'm sure it would be interesting...I didn't like Madonna so much once the 80s was over.

Yes, I remember the Chipmunks!!

I didn't like Madonna in the 80s - I thought she prostituted her art far too much and in a way that degraded what she was really capable of. Sad really as she is such an intelligent woman, but she obviously knew how to sell records by doing what she did!

Yet, after her performance in 'Evita' and the 'Ray of Light' album, she definitely won back some credibility with me. To me, that was her most mature and adult work to date.

Quite a masterpiece! The lyrics are clever and beautiful, but not sensational, the music is:

I think Madonna's most important 'reflection' is her incredible gift to do around the universe hitting 'commercial' songs in the right time in the right place, presenting alternatives to chaos, destruction and despair, like the strange coincidence of releasing dancefloor music simultaneously to the young people's revolt in France, for instance.
