The Eurovision Song Contest is a competition where mostly &quot;second-rate&quot; artists takes part. It is very seldom that a well known band is participating. This year the Danish duo &quot;Olsen Brothers&quot; won the contest with a song called &quot;Fly on the wings of love&quot;. They have made a lot of money because they won the contest. ABBA had their breakthrough when they won the contest with &quot;Waterloo&quot;.

In recent years most of the artists have sung in English but earlier they had to sing in their own language.

The countries that participate in the contest each send a singer/band and when they have all performed their songs every country can cast their votes like this 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-12. Then when the winner has been found they play their winning song one more time.

So that´s what it´s all about.

You know, you learn something every day. I have an Erasure bootleg from 1992 and Andy is gong on saying deux points etc etc..and I had no idea what the hell that was all about til tonight.. So now 9 years later, I know what he's talking about.

Kind of like a beauty pageant but a music pageant huh? No, I don't think any established band with integrity like Alphaville should ever take part in that..
