View Full Version : Where's the most unusual place you heard/played AV

Being a true fan, any time is a time for Alphaville, but some are more unusual , or just different....
Songs you will remember because you were having a peak experience at the time.
one of mine is looking out over the bay, in Berkeley, California, and listening to "for a million" at sunset, with the sun almost centered on the golden gate bridge on a summer evening.

S.M.I2.L.E! It makes people wonder what you're up to.

well I mentioned before that I wanted Stardustbunny to be born to &quot;Fantastic Dream&quot; but things sort of happen their own way in the labor room. But I did play it in the hospital the next day. Don't know if that's considered unusual or not. I'll keep thinking....

Sometime ago I got on a date with a guy who took me to an Arabic restaurant.
it was a very special place with pillows and carpets, oriental music... (i promise to take you there, Wii:)).
anyway, we were sitting and all of a sudden i heard BIJ.
I jumped and said : &quot;hey ! its my fave song !!!&quot; <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Some of us have managed. Not everything is set in stone. It was an interesting relationship, but there was definitely some tension. And in the course of things, we both grew.

In 1997 at the toilet of Planet Hollywood London, I was sitting down minding my on business listening to (I think it was U2), then out of the speakers came FY.
So the visit to the lavatory was 3:45 min longer. ( I tippet the toiletattendent a lot )

I heard SLAM at a club in Tel-Aviv.

We were waiting (with the live band) for Marian Gold to enter the club at the same time... :)
Eventually he didnt (long story...).

I once heard "Summer Rain" in the car, coming back from South of France, it was summer and there was rain, and it was played in the radio near Frankfurt, I was feeling like home, not because of the country - because of the music in this night!

In a department store...

A few weeks ago, I passed by the area where stereos and cd players are sold and suddenly I heard Forever Young (special extended mix). I wanted to go and talk to the salesman, but the people that I came with, pulled me away, no matter how I protested and wanted to go back. :(

Another fan told me about the magic of this kind of listening...maybe Marie heard it from here [wink]. I listened to The Breathtaking Blue album on my discman as I walked across the Golden Gate Bridge, but it was the middle of the day, the sky was blue, the sea was blue, it was a beautiful sunny day, 11 August 2002. I love San Francisco...

(it was only later that night on the news that I found out there was a high terror alert on that very bridge and that the whole bridge was kept under high surveillance...my mom, very worried, called later to make sure that I was all right and wasn't anywhere close to that part of the city, you can imagine her reaction when I told her I had been walking across the bridge....[laugh])

Well, in Germany it´s not that unusual to hear FY, BIJ, SLAM, DWM, JS and J. But:
Last November I was sitting at my new hairdresser and his stereo was playing Iron John.
Wow!!! Never heard that one in a public room before. Three months later same place he
played Lies. I approached him and we had a nice conversation about Alphaville and music
generally. I think I´ll keep on getting my hair cut by him for a few times...

The day when I arrived to Germany on my cousin's birthday party. If you saw the guests that were there, you would be surprised to hear AV too. They all liked some kind of heavy metal or whateveritiscalled. And after listening to this music for a while somebody put on some compilation CD, where AV's "Fools" was. So I was like: "OH! That's my reason to come to Germany!" [laugh]

- once in the car with Kerstin (05/2000 from berlin to hamburg) we both had the same thoughts at the same second "AV on radio would be great " and the next second BIJ started... *scream*

A couple of hours ago I was stuck in a traffic jam generated by a huge puddle in a big avenue, and the guy in the van beside me was listening to BIJ very loud.

The one big gripe I had with this was about how poorly edited the song was.

Dear Peter,
Thank you so much for pointing that out! (and thank you to Poul E for posting it.)

That ad still sends shivers through me...it was done not long before I moved to Germany. My best friend's husband saw it first and said to my friend, "Mags needs to know about this!" They told me what channel they saw it on and so that evening I sat with video cassette ready and after an hour or so of waiting patiently the ad came on and I recorded it. But that cassette wouldn't work in Germany of course so it has been ages since I saw that ad now. Leaving high school ... leaving the USA... the timing was perfect.

The food court of a big mall. [boggled]

On Saturday, I was buying some fast food with my mother, and I was complaining about the terrible music one always listens there --going from the dullest cover of John Lennon's Imagine, to the cheapest Mexican pop--, when I started to hear the first chords of Fallen Angel. (!!!!) [bigeyes]

Feelings were strange: I was glad of course, to hear not only an AV song, but one that wasn't FY or BIJ... but it was also scary that they played such a song in the middle of the usual bad music they have there. [shake]

I haven’t had this album up to that moment, and heard it only for 3 times long ago. If someone asked me to sing it along, i wouldn't remember it.
This song sounded in my sleep, which is even more strange. It wasn’t images or dreams, only the song. I heard the sound of the saxophone and the artist's deep voice as distinctly, as if the song really sounded in my room. I used to wake up with the pounding heart, because the song sounded so clearly and realisticly, as if the singer was sitting at my bed and singing. I opened my eyes and it was still playing inside of me, in my ears. That was so impressive, that I could not forget my strange "Impossible Dream".
I don't know what it means.

Somebody used a bit of FY in a YouTube Poop video!

For those who don't know what a YTP is, it's when they take any old kind of mixed media and weave soundbites from any which way into them. In this case, it was used in a montage after a scene in a recent video game.

It's after the 18 minute mark. WARNING: If you should watch the whole thing, there is some language mixed into the audio.
