I´m sure that a lot of you only know "Safety dance" but "Pop goes the world" and
Moonbeam are also great songs.

On this weekend I´ve been listening to the albums Rhythm of Youth and Folk of the 80´s and they are both great.
Rhythm of Youth is one of the best Pop albums of the 80s in my eyes! What do you think?

BTW:
poul e, it seems as if we have (almost) the same taste in music: Alphaville, Hooters, OMD, Men Without Hats, Human League...
And wasn´t it you, who said that Depeche Mode got worse and worse after Vince Clarke has left them? This is excactly what I think! So you are not alone with this oppinion.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
Rythm of Youth is one of my favorite album from 80s - I had back when it was released on vinyl and now in a remastered US re-release with maxi version and all that, also some compilations with maxi´s have been released in the 90s - Roland, I believe you have these ?

You´re right Roland. We must have nearly the same taste in music. Do you like Belinda Carlisle too?
Compilation with maxi´s? What is it? I´m very interested!

I do have two compilations of them:
First of all the CD, which contains Rhythm of Youth and Folk of the 80´s on one CD and second a CD called "Collection", featuring the most famous songs plus Maxi versions of Safety Dance, I got the message and Where do the boys go?.
And I got these CDs from you Willy, which you might remember! You gave them to me in Copenhagen on the fanclub meeting.
Once more a BIG thank you from me for this!
I also own the CDs Pop goes the world and Sideways, plus one of their latest albums on LP.

I only know her well known songs, like Heaven is a place on earth, Leave a light on, Circle in the sand and so on. But my favourite song of her is Mad about you. I do have this song on a sampler and I like it a lot.
But I don´t own an album of her.
Roland. Have you heard any maxi versions by Belinda Carlisle? "Heaven is a place on earth", "Summer Rain" and "I get weak" are so good!!!
Roland. I have these items by Men without Hats:
CD: The very best of MWH (I believe it´s the same as the one you have?)
CD single: Moonbeam
LP: Folk of the 80´s
LP: Rhythm of youth
12": Safety dance
12": Pop goes the world
7" Picture disc: I got the message

well, spite this being a pretty old subject, I gotta say that even if Vince is one of my fave musicians, and I love Yazoo and Erasure, I still think that the cheerfulness of Vinces songs didn't fit DM so well...somehow Davidīs voice is much better in dark and introspective songs that came after Vince left, just listen to "A Broken Frame", DMīs first album after Vince left!...but again, Vince is so great in Yazoo!
Roland, I didnīt know either, I found the news by pure coincidence - canīt wait to hear the new stuff.

Itīs good to have you, Willy. [wave]
And that the songs are "in the MWH electro-pop style" sounds really promising.
I hope we donīt have to wait so long for the release, cause I want to hear it!!
The new CD is ready now:

Marian once told me that the basline in "safety dance" is the same as in big in Japan..very intersting=)
havent heard any songs by them though..
OH MY GOD!!I've just listened to 'Safety Dance' and BIJ and yes!! The baseline is the same - or at the very least it's very similar!
I even sang, "we can dance if we want to', whilst listening to BIJ (not listening to the melody of BIJ) and it worked!
Well, there's nothing new under the sun...
Yes, I've got my copy of the new MWH CD. It's great! Ivan's voice sounds better than ever and the music is a step forward, from their last efforts, but at the same time you can still here that special MWH sound. If you like MWH, you should definetly buy this CD.
I read recently that MWH are planning a CD consisting only of remixes of 'Safety Dance' - anyone know any more?
What if someone could do a mix of 'Safety Dance' and BIJ? That would be cool to listen to...

Yes "Safety Dance" is a great song, like to hear the remixes.
The new album "No hats beyond this point" is now available. Does anyone have Real Player? You can hear 3 tracks from the album.

Thanks Willy!
'Telepathy' starts funny and is a nice song...
'California' is good.
'Roses' is my favourite of the 3.
I thinks the whole album is quite good in traditional MWH style. The only bad thing is that it's way too short. As I wrote earlier I got this album in April so I've been able to listen to it quite a few times :-) California is my favourite so far...

Safety Dancing but sounds like Big In Japan in the begining [wink]

There´s another band I would really like to see live, as long as they only play their 80´s stuff, after that it was horrible...
I wonder if Alphaville "borrowed" the baseline from "Safety dance" when they made "BIJ". That is a question that might be interesting to ask Marian sometime.... [wink]

hmmmm....... I think maybe other way around since BIJ was conceived long before Safety dance....... I thought I read somewhere that Marian had the baseline in his head in the late seventies and Bernhard and Frank came along and made it a reality in the early 80's.
OK Russ....but how did Men Without Hats hear "Big in Japan" before releasing "Safety dance" in 1982??
I really don´t think Safety Dance and Big in Japan are so alike, it´s a coincidence.
You may be right Willy....just "the sound" at that time....

I don't think they are that simular either. And even if they were, it doesn't mean they stole the bassline from the other. There are only so many rhythic bass configurations possible, that they are bound to be repeated over and over again.
If you want to look for similarities I can tell you that BIJ shares almost the same chords as "It's a sin" by Pet Shop Boys and "Wild World" by Cat stevens.

OK Russ....but how did Men Without Hats hear "Big in Japan" before releasing "Safety dance" in 1982??
hehe.... Marian and the lead singer of MWH are actually second cousins - they grew up together and Marian was always humming this bass line........ ok, you are not buying this are you? LOL!!! ........ I have no idea, but I agree that its probably just coincidental!!!
Noone would have wondered about two songs sounding like eachother these days.....there seem to be a lot of that going around....I know I'm finding it hard to tell artists apart when hearing a song on the radio!

yeah, that and it seems that sampling another song to make your own is getting very popular too. Its almost like old hits are getting recycled by artists who don't have the substance to create something new and exciting.
FallenAngel

That is typical for our times.... recycle.... Sadly that everything sounds the same....
New single, I like it [wink]
