Ok, as you all know these guys are me 2nd favourite band next to AV..Everyone of course remembers the song "In A Big Country" and the wacky video with the weirdo chick and her braids from hell? HaH!! First heard them on the radio when I was driving with mum through Edinburgh to see her best friend..The radio announcer mentioned that they were home grown Scots and I about jumped out of me seat HaH! Ok...that's enough Scot Pride for now..Who else likes them? I hope at least one person here, I know they are not Synth..but they are still cool to me.

I liked Big Country back in the 80´s. But they are not that special to me.

I like "Wonderland", "In a big country" and "Look away". Maybe a few more too, but I can´t think of them right now.

Well unfortunately Big Country is no more *Sad eyes* The lead singer Stuart Adamson though is forming a new band right now..the Big Country mailing list is as we speak trying to think up some pretty stupid band names for the new band *Rolls eyes so far back in his head he feels like he's going to get whiplash*

I especially loved the Peace in our time album. 13 valleys is a wonderfully simple, but focused and driven song. The whole album was a real showpiece. Peter Wolf (of J. Geils band fame)produced it.

S.M.I2.L.E! It makes people wonder what you're up to.

Got this from the Official Big Country webpage:

December 7, 2001 22:24:52 entered by Track Records

SCOTTISH ROCK STAR DISAPPEARS.

Legendary Scottish musician STUART ADAMSON has disappeared in USA.

Adamson who has had a long battle with alcoholism has not been seen for over 3 weeks.

He left a note for his son saying “back by noon Sunday” on Wed 7th November. He did not appear but,was known to be in Atlanta when a fellow Scot watched the Ireland v Iran World Cup match with him on 15th November. Despite many calls made by his manager and family Stuart has not been traced. Manager Ian Grant says “I am very concerned for the welfare of Stuart as he has not been in the best of shapes over the last 6 months”. He has not answered any mobile phone messages left on his voice mail, and not contacted his son or any member of his family since he left the note. His mobile phone doesn’t function now.

He has been placed on the Missing Persons list by Nashville Police Department and a Private Detective has been hired in an attempt to find him.

You guys should see the Big Country mailing lists right now....It's damn chaotic with all the sadness...Scotland lost a great talent...Now we just have a few shite bands to look up to...Scotland needs to get their arses in gear and get some more greatness in the music business

Im a bit late in posting on this topic.I would just like to say that ,Stuart Adamson is a tremendous loss to the music industry, arguably thee definitive underrated guitarist,my memories of Big Country go back a long way and i have almost all their albums. When i heard of the loss of Stuart i was very saddened indeed,i remembered how i'd loved Fields Of Fire but was only 9 at the time and i didnt have the money to buy it,it was one of those records i had always wanted,it wasnt until 2 years later when i managed to pick up a cheap second hand copy of ''The Crossing'' on LP that i finally had the song in my collection and i just played it over and over, such an incredible unique sound from an incredible individual. Many things have been forgotten about Stuart Adamson, like the fact that he even lent his talents to composing music for films like the superb comedy ''Restless Natives'' (my favourite film!!) and his role in ''The Skidz'',many people will recognise ''Into The Valley'' the moment they hear it.Big Country were even chosen by the BBC to take viewers in to the new year with a concert in 1984 (which i still have on video!!).I would love to have heard the new band he was putting together but alas that will never happen, but its true to say he has left a considerable legacy behind him and will be fondly remembered by many.
