Hey - what about Fancy ?
"hold me in your arms again" is a fantatic tune, far the best from this artist - specially the 12" version.

I prefer "Bolero" (Especially the 12") and "Lady of Ice".
"Bolero" is the same song as "hold me in your arms again".

I've got a big sentiment for this dude. Got all his CDs. And will probably buy all future releases. Too bad he fell into time trap. You know - Bad Boys Blue (and lately unfortunately Alphaville) syndrome - almost no new material, just remixes, new versions and so...

I Can´t Live Without You (Lonely Nights) !!! GREATEST SONG! [:-headphones]
Actually, i have seen Fancy live (singback) in Sala folkets park back in 1986. It was the absolute worst show i ever seen. After that i didnt listen to Fancy anymore until a few years ago. But i still have a problem with Fancy just because of that awful appearence.

Ok, I'll just say that I laughed a lot in Chemnitz...

Fancy's civil name is MANFRED RICARDO TESS PERILANO. He was born on July 7, 1946, at midday in the gynaecological clinic in Munich, Germany. He was born into a farming family and since early childhood, he demonstrated signs that he was destined for a life in show business. Manfred grows up in a city named Lengenfeld. Later he returns to Munich.
When he was in the third year of primary school, he made his first steps towards working in the music industry: the children’s choir of a Bavarian broadcast under the direction of Josef Brueggemann. But this musical experience concluded in disaster. However one must not connect this fact with his move from his primary school, to a cloistral monastery boarding school. This is rather more to do with his parents beliefs and religion. The monks followed a strict regime. Pupils were forbidden to speak during meal times and all forms of music, with the exception of classical music, were banned. In secret, Manfred and his school friends listened to Ted Herold and Peter Kraus.
All things forbidden was to hold a particular attraction for Manfred. In all other respects he had his hands full studying ancient Greek and Latin. He was not a big fan of these languages; sport and music were to prove more exciting to him. At the age of twelve he began to play the guitar. His time at the monastery ended and he returned to Munich where he passed, with ease, his entry exams to the national Theresien High School there. He continued his Latin and Greek studies - still today Fancy can write beautifully the Greek letters. At school, Manfred was selected not only as a class speaker, but considered the "clown" of the class as he has a great sense of fun. At first he was a studious pupil, but his interest in music increased. Not only as a composer, but as performer he continued to develop. On school trips and at other times he continued to practice the guitar. During his time at high school and thereafter Manfred practises his craft, sometimes as a guitarist, sometimes a bassist, but mainly as a singer.
His first attempts were quite problematic. His parents were not inspired the direction he was going in. Like many parents, they dreamt of a career for him as a minister or at least a physician. There was daily conflict at home and one night he spent a most uncomfortable night in the cellar at his home.
After his graduation and a few jobs, Manfred established some bands: Mountain Shadows, Starfighter, Tess Teiges and the Dynamits, Alpha Centauri. The bands interpreted the biggest hits the time, influenced mainly by the music of Cliff Richard. After this period he started his solo-career as master of ceremonies: a actor and comedian at heart, shows all his faces in his live-shows. He does so with tempo, perfection and sympathy.
But music is his passion and he don't stop to try enter for the music-business. The determination of the young artist to make its proper compositions and productions called to attention of some company of the musical market. In the early of 70s the german label Hansa began a partner with Manfred, and he is an allround-talent: composer, lyricist and producer. Under the name Tess Teiges release more singles and is great success.
Tess's apprenticeship years were completed he came into contact with many novice producers who were to be world famous in years to come including Giorgio Moroder and Frank Farian.
At the end of 70s form the group Leonardo and Planetary Vision and always looking out for new talents (with very succesful at this) produce artists like Red Face and Sabine Sauvant. Also became a part of the duo Kess & Tess.
But slowly Tess begins to consider again a solo career as a singer. He develops a partnership with Todd Canedy and they begin to work on a sound with a fantastic beat to dance to: a demo of Slice Me Nice is produced; the final mix is recorded in September 1983 (and the name FANCY is created) and released in February 1984. By July it climbs up the charts. During this time Fancy builds the "Lakeside Studios".
This formidable debut is follo
Well!! Fancy that! (sorry, couldn't resist...[laugh])

22 Sep 2003, 01:46
Would be great!!!
I have my own fanclub in Brazil. Wanna know our story?
The first Brazilian homepage & fan club dedicated to Fancy was launched on November 25th, 1998 (homepage) and 1st March, 1993 (fan club). In the early days, it was an international fan club, with members from all over the world: Russia, Denmark, Latvia, USA, England, France.
After a long break, the fan club returned only for Brazilian fans.
The fan club was authorised by Fancy himself, in his interview to Valdemar Luz.
The two webzines were edited by Waldemar and published for free in Brazil at the end of the 90's. There were six editions of "The Tess Webzine" and three editions of "Fancy". All of them were produced in two versions: paper and digital.
After a computer crash-down, all copies were lost. The printed versions have become rarities amongst Brazilian Fancy-fans.
There were three special radio programmes to promote three releases: "D.I.S.C.O." (album and single), "We Can Move A Mountain" (single), and "Strip Down" (album). Waldemar Luz directed the radio programme promoting "D.I.S.C.O.", and talked about Fancy's history since the 1970s.
In 2000 Fancy's manager authorised Waldemar to sell official Fancy fan products in Brazil on the website.
The fan club, after 10 years, still running only for Brazilian fans.
The club aims to unite all Brazilians Fancy-fans for trading, parties and friendship. Please, note that if you are looking for bootlegs, full MP3s or more of that stuff you came to the wrong address.

He also invited me to dance with them and said that one of the guys there is about to do like Fancy in the clip of Bolero !!!
So the guy got up on a small stage there and actually started to do the Fancy thing !!!! [laugh]
We were all laughing like hell and later when everyone left and only our group left there, Oren played Bolero again and this time we did the Fancy clip all together !!! [laugh]

Fancy's got some real good stuff...but I despise the version of Grant Miller's "Colder Than Ice" he made....
Somehow I find the song "Slice me Nice" my personal favorite by him, it's just so groovy ;)
I have always loved FANCY, but I did not know he had his own topic here.
We played Fancy a lot 84-87, and still we play Slice Me Nice, Lady Of Ice, Flames Of Love etc etc when I meet my 80-is-friends.
Anyone remember Chemnitz 2003? [laugh] I`d never seen or even heard of Fancy until then!

Hello to you all
I am from Switzerland and a big fan of the 80es.
I really love the music of Fancy, I can hear it really every day, it gives me so much energy.
I'm 40 years old now and have been listening to his music since 1984.
Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to see him performing live.
That's why I love to hear reports from people who had a chance to meet him or see Fancy live performing.
It's a shame, that there's no concert from his earlier years is on DVD availiable.
I read in this forum hat the 1986 concert in Sala, Sweden, was awful. I would love to hear why.
I also read here that there's a book available and it would be so great to have this file (50 pages).
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Greetings from Susan
