I wonder if "To Germany With Love" is a parodie on the 2:nd World War.

ummm... Im not sure if about the WW2 but it talks about the politics in Germany.
We all know how much Marian "loves" politics
if you'll listen to the demo version of FY you'll see that it talks about WW2.

Difficult question....
I can remember an interview, Marian said that 'To Germany With Love' is a letter that somebody who has left Germany writes to his fatherland.... That is the reason why some words of both hymns, the German and the DDR hymn, appear at the end of the song....
I think it has something to do with DDR, not with 2nd World War, but I am not sure....
Hope I could help you a bit...

If you study the lyrics...

a war between the wars
(the World Wars??)

triumph over by-gone sorrow
(germany's loss in the 1:st World War)

can in unity be won
(hitler united the german people)

here comes the terror-squad
(is Marian pointing at the nazists???)

this is the turn of colours
(germany changed the flag during the WW's)

let us build a nightmare nation
(hitlers dream of the new germany)

Flourish in this blessing glory
Flourish German fatherland...

...and the evil laught in the end of the song

hmm... I'm still wondering
I think "To Germany With Love"
highlight the 2:nd World War in a cryptic but also clear way.

what do you think?

Well I don't know, really.
But I can imagine what Marian would say: He would say that you're right because you made your own thoughts about the song .... And that is always right.....
Or something....

I wonder what the

March 1: Departure
March 2: Arrival
March 3: Still

...means in the lyrics

Yes, I´ve been thinking of that myself. I think TGWL is a very mysterious song. With a lot of secrets to unfold...

March 1: Departure
March 2: Arrival
March 3: Still

I´m wondering those too...

this piece "a war between the wars"made me think of that there was actually a war inside of Germany, while germany was busy in WW2. the people didnt know which side to choose, hitlers or the jews. i guess the most of them knew the jews wasnt the reason the problems hitler blamed them for..but they had to take his side cause of the fear they had. so i would actually say that there was a war between the war that was between the wars..the war that was going on in the german peoples feelings all the time..

The song is probably just a reflexion of life... How it could be and how it was. Not written from a personal point of view but from an observers point of view. Which means that the song has nothing to do with opinions just reflexions of reality.

well, I think it tells about WW2 and the conflicts between East and West, Natzies and Jews, good and bad....and I like the song like hell ...

I think is is an allegory of WW2 (also the machine-gun like, mechanic beat), but from a later point-of view: A cynic emigree that still loves his fatherland but sees that this "cold new generation" (the generation that wants to throw over the memory on WW2) is just about to repeat the old errors and disasters. He tries to warn them but in the end cynicism is what remains. In this sense flourish German fatherland"(evil laugh)...
one of the all-time-best AV-compositions, Bernhard at his best! And Marian wonderfully indifferent
