View Full Version : New Horizons (The Fanclub) 2005
Today we have sent out the first newsletter with the new leaders. Already now we can see that a lot of the info we have on the members is no longer valid. If you haven't received an e-mail from NH today (and you want to) then please contact me at my e-mail adress or send me a pm here at the forum!
As for the Alphaville-fans who lives outside Scandinavia but want to become members of New Horizons because you don't have an AV fanclub in you own country....I'm sorry that I have no news for you...we are still waiting for an answer from Moonbase whether or not we can have members from outside Scandinavia
To the new horizons....
Poul E.
It´s good to have you "back in business", Poul!
Yeah, Poul. We need you active online the way as you were for the Berlin party 2004! :yell_125:

Folks!
I got good news!!!!
I had send a message to Moonbase and this was the answer I received from Claudia:
'Dear Fallen Angel!
Thanks for your interest in Alphaville.
I see absolutely no problem for you to join a foreign fanclub - there are many fans from different countries gathered at the Alphaville fanclubs.
Thanks a lot for your support and attention.
We appreciate it a lot!
Best regards
Claudia'
We need to get this confirmed from Claudia.

I already have forwarded the e-mail I have received from Moonbase to Poul.
Oh, what I mean is that we need Claudia to tell us that our fanclub can be international, members from all over the world.
Sounds amazing, when thinking what kind of "det är bara vi som bor här"-feeling it was in the first place :smile_big
I am not complaining about anything :thumbup_1
Yes I agree Willy....this is a HUGE step towards letting in fans from outside Scandinavia to our fanclub, but we need to hear it directly from Claudia that New Horizons is allowed to have members who lives outside Scandinavia!!!
I will send this topic to Claudia.
Claudia

Hi all!
Of course any fan can join a fanclub of his choice! Actually, I know there are also fans from outside Germany subscribed at Golden Feeling, from Austria for example. And fans from Belgium are members at the Dutch fanclub. Fans from the US are subscribed at the UK club and so on...
Best regards!
Claudia
Well, it´s no secret Claudia that we wanted to make New Horizons an international fanclub, not just for people in Scandinavia, that´s why I sent you this topic to discuss this.
Great news Claudia!!!!!!! Thank you!

A toast on this great news!!!!
May there be lot of new members!
Long live New Horizons & Alphaville!!!!!:party_125
And thanks Claudia!!! :kisssend:
Nice, we'll have a great deal of new members :thumbup_1
Willy & Poul, I wish the name "Scandinavian" stayed still, don't you think?
Well, not sure what we decide yet, maybe we´ll go with an international name.
The internetbased Alphaville fanclub NEW HORIZONS....
I think we should keep the name NEW HORIZONS....it also fits the idea of taking the fanclub into a new era....to the new horizons...
Yes, the name stays.
I will soon begin work with the new website, based on the new forum design, we´ll have some special place just for members of the fanclub.
Willy and Poul - maybe it´s an idea to inform all the member of New Horizone about the plans on doing this to an international fanclub. And not only a Scandinavian Fanclub any longer.
I think this is a big step and maybe all members should have the opportunity to say a few words about it? What do you guys think?
I don´t say that I don´t like the idea, but I know that most of the members are not so often in the forum. So let them know.
@Trond: This is not becoming a forum fanclub....don't worry! I don't think we will have that many members from outside Scandinavia anyway...but I'm pleased that we can now let in fans from countries like Belgium where they don't have their own fanclub!!!
We will of course inform our members in the next newsletter about all our plans. I can't say that it won't be a bonus to be a member of this great forum also because it is....you will probably get the news faster or at least at the same time here at the forum....all beginnings are hard and this is no different....there is a lot of stuff that need to be worked out before the fanclub is running like we want it to....but I'm sure it's going to be great!
We´re still working on all the details, upgrading the forum and website later is just part of the New Horizons future, we plan to add some new sections to the website for members only where we can offer them something worth paying for. For people who donate to the forum, we´ll also offer them more. The plan is to have everything online, and just sent out newsletter by mail once in a while for those who wishes to stay updated.
Sometimes I wonder why many very enthusiastic fan club members are not members here at the forum. And if they are, they are not active. I have tried to get them inspired, but no.
some people are just not very fond of this kind of communication.
It´s over 1000 members, but only a few is active in the forum. 20-30 persons or so. It took me a few years to become an active member, and now I have to check the forum several times a day. My new hobby actually!

Like every bird sings his own song, so is every AV fan on his own way...
Some are more quiet than others, but they are still part of this great AV family!
And beside be happy that not every member is like that Belgian wel known fan! Or the Dream Master would have lot of overwork to do!;)
I personally am really happy that I can join the fan club, and I am sure that there are other members that feels the same!
Thanks for the newsletter Willy and Poul. Very informativ.
Thank you Trond! We hope to have something to write about on a regular basis from now on. It's always hard to start something....and now that we have done that it should get easier from here on :)
It will probably not be too long newsletters in the future, but there will be a lot more than before...and when the closed section on alphaville.org is up and running we will put everything there....

It's not the quantity that counts, but the quality! Better one newsletter with some news that ten with no news at all! (strange, that this comes from me isn't it....)
Just saw the newsletter, good to see something happening. :)
Plans for meeting this winter? Maybe a meeting on friday and AV-concert on saturday...! If there is an upcoming show we should just do it (?).
Great idea Trond! Iīll be there for sure :)

IF there is a concert in Scandinavia this winter we can surely discuss a fanmeeting just before or after....but that's a very big IF !

hmm...why just winter?
And this summer.....???
I think it's summer/autumn which is the best season for a meeting or a concert or both.

@Slam: you are NOT invited TONY!! [wink][laugh][laugh]
@Peter; Now itīs international fanclub, remember!!
Winter / Summer - not so important, but we need an OFFICIAL meeting in 2006. I will suggest in Sweden, since most of the members live there.
I am a member of NH since the begin of 2004, Trond.
Peter is trying to find words with a "fulkaka" in his mouth [toast] [smile2]
Krapplund
21 Nov 2005, 19:55
FULKAKA!!! That was the word we said most during the boattrip after YEAH, WOW and Alphaville....so you was a part of the trip TONYYY!!!
Yes Toni....summer is surely the best suited time of year for a fanmeeting!
If we are to continue the tradition of changing places between Denmark, Norway and Sweden then the fanmeeting should be in Denmark the next time. There are a couple of great spots close to where I live which shouldn't be too far from Norway or the Gothenburgarea in Sweden where a lot of the Swedish fans live....
but right now there are so many unanswered questions regarding the fanclub so I can't really think much about a fanmeeting...
Which unanswered questions, Poul?
Ok Toni....I will name a couple:
1. How much will the membershipfee be...we are waiting for an answer from Moonbase regarding that
2. How, when and where will we pay for the Elektrisch CDs...we are waiting for an answer from the company
3. How many will still be members of NH and what is their e-mail adress and where do they live now....I am waiting for confirmation on the personal info from half of the people in my membershiplist....and I know several of the e-mail adresses are wrong
The layout for the new website is almost ready.
Will launch when we get the details above solved.

Jonatan
22 Nov 2005, 15:01
I really can't understand why Moonbase would care about which member fee we have?!?
@Poul, have you any idea how to get in contact to all the persons on the memberlist wha has changed e-mail adresses?
@Trond: I will send snail-mail to those I can't get to via e-mail and ask them to send me a working e-mail address....
Those I can't contact either via the e-mail adress or via snailmail I have no idea how to get to....
But I am considering to post the list of those fans/members which I need info on in this topic....that might get additional info on a couple of members....the only problem is that I don't want to offend anyone by posting their personal info here!!!

@But I am considering to post the list of those fans/members which I need info on in this topic....that might get additional info on a couple of members....the only problem is that I don't want to offend anyone by posting their personal info here!!!

You can give us a list of names, and maybe we can help.
That's what I did in the last newsletter....maybe I will do the same here. The list in the newsletter didn't help at all...I haven't received any additional mails at all...
Hmm... I think I have forgotten to answer your mail [boggled]
.. but I recieved it!
Hmm... I think I have forgotten to answer your mail [boggled]
.. but I recieved it!
don't worry....your info has been confirmed!
Maybe it is more members that has not confirmed even they have received both mails? Because they have forgotten to do it, or they did not understand that they have to confirm ??
Yes, for sure! itīs so easy to forget!
Why not send out another mail, just a very short one, with big letters saying: Hey maaaan, if you want to be a member, press REPLY and say YES!
Nothing more, nothing less. :)
/Christina
..and if you donīt reply you are not interested any longer..
We have to use our force on the people whos wants to be member.
And not search for earlier members that not longer is interested.
So what you are saying is that I shouldn't be asking for confirmation on the members info....just if they want to be members or not?
I only have confirmation from about half the members so we are down to about 30 members right now....very poor !!
I will post a list of former members who haven't replied here later today...
If only 30 are interested, we might as well close down the fanclub, but thatīs just my opinion. In any case, I donīt believe in 2005 that there are still members without an email address.
30 is worth of having a fanclub in motion!
I donīt either think 30 is to few. As it has been possible for non-scandinavian to join maybe there will be even more members, and maybe because of cheaper membership fee?
So what you are saying is that I shouldn't be asking for confirmation on the members info....just if they want to be members or not?
I am just saying if we can not get any response from a person, donīt use more time on him. Concentrate your time on us who are active and still have the enthusiasm for Alphaville.
I have now tried to send out 2 e-mails to get confirmation on the info I have in the memberslist. I have heard from about half the people in the list. But I still need to hear from these people:
Leena Aho
Björn Andersson
Mikael Andersson
John Berge
Tomas Brun
Daniel Ferm
Annlis Fohlin
Anders Fredlund
Robert Haake
Birgitte Hansen
Mathias Härdin
Malin Hörnberg
Jan-Rune Justad
Jon Erik Kjørkleiv
Sam Larsson
Christoffer Lönnman
Anette Melheim
Rebecka Molander
Sten Roar Moum
Tomas Nefstad
Narve Nicolaysen
Ann Nilsson
John Nilsson
Mats Norström
Brian Møller Pedersen
Janus Rasmussen
Christina Skytt
Patrik Tarsalainen
Staffan Westin
Mikael Åhman
I need to know if you still want to be members of New Horizons. If you do then please send me an e-mail as soon as possible. I need a working e-mail adress to send newsletters to and I also need to know your postal adress.
Also....other members are also very welcome to contact me with info on the people in this list. I would rather get confirmation 10 times than not at all.
Thank you!!!
Poul
I have removed 2 people from the list because I received a confirmation mail from them. Thanx for your help Trond!
I will update this list when I get new info...
Don`t give up.. We need our fanclub. You`re doing a great job.
I agree with trond, don`t use to mush time with them who not respond. Also if they are interested, they could contact you...
I have now heard from a couple more people who wants to remain members, but there's still more than 30 that I haven't heard from....
I have not heard from "the Elektrisch company" either yet....they seem very unprofesssional!! I have written to them 5-6 times and only received 1 short answer telling me that we can buy the CDs fro 20 and that some of the CDs will be signed by Marian....I know that is the most important to know, but....
The new alphaville.org is getting there....great work by Willy so far !!!!
We are still waiting for Moonbase to tell us what the problem is with our new membersfee so with all these "walls" it is very difficult to get anywhere right now [banghead]
[evil] So frustrating.
If the Elektrisch Company sounds a bit unproffesional, I will not pay in advance. Maybe we shall drop it. I have ordered 5 cd-es. But I will think one more time about it
I will contact Claudia again about this.
Alphaville.dk is going slowly, but only the Events page isnīt ready yet, the rest should be online. I will eventually add some more stuff as time permits and of course our members only page.
@Trond: I certainly want to hear from them again before I place our final order!! They least they could do was to send out a mail telling those who are interested in Elektrisch that it has been delayed.....
@Willy: Claudia told us to be patient.....but it's really hard to wait for much longer regarding the membersfee....it is perhaps the most important part of a fanclub....
The new design on alphaville.org is great! But I'm sure the members only page will make it even better!!!!
Yeah, I have some ideas that would make any AV fan join us to see it.
Weīll see...

@ Poul E:
you should be able to calculate the members fee...
I dont think Claudia can tell you how much it should be.
Its up to you guys. it depends what you want to offer your members:
Newsletters
Fanzines (ones or twice a year / print costs)
webpage
...
and so on...
Why not ask Torleif from GoldenFeeling ... [smoke]
btw. the beard is gone [bigeyes]
We know the cost !
Weīll discuss this with Claudia.
@Alphaanni: We did calculate the membersfee long time ago....but Claudia heard about it and told us that there is a problem with the fee....we don't know what the problem is....we are still waiting for an answer from Moonbase...
I wish we had someone like Joachim to go on with headlines and arranging fanclub meetings and concerts where to go with a great gang of NH people.
Headlines was just fantastic!
I hate to say this, but why people discuss about the fee? What is the fee based on for?
I don't blame anyone. Joachim's place is hard to replace.

What would we do without it? I would be lost! This is my home and I am proud to be a fanclub member of what I call the best fanclub!!
I had already thought to contact Moonbase myself, but as this is somewhat delicate and I don't want to start problems I decided to not interfear in this entire discussion.
But I hope you will receive an answer fast.

Yes headlines would have been great to, but not for us new members.... I don't think it was in English???
An internet based fanclub has more options than a magazine, and a fanclub that wants to survive in this electronic world has to adapt.
There were some texts in english, JP.
Trond, as you know much about computers and designing, so you could give your best shots about doing some nice reports with many pictures of this year's Alphaville concerts. It would probably get swollen to Headlines we used to have. It wouldn't have to be as big, though.

Come on, Headlines WAS a good idea, but it's almost 2006 now. Everybody uses Internet these days.

I agree. Nowadays, e-zines or something similar are more popular and more practical than Headlines by snail-mail.
Even though we all love recieving an envelope with an interesting content! [bigeyes]

I agree with you.. partially. Of course e-zines and information via Internet are great.
But magazines on paper will never (i guess, and really hope that) die. And I will probably always prefer non-digital kind of newspaper and magazines. (not only because printing technology, paper technology, (and graphic arts) are my big interets).
I would really like to have Headlines on paper, and then electronic newsletter. Without any doubt I would accept higher memberfee for that.

You got my vote !!!!
I agree. Without any send-outs (that actually cost money) I don't see any argument for a fee.
What about a fee for hosting? Afterall hosting does cost money.

No problems for me! And I am sure that others will feel the same way.
If we want that this fanclub / forum stays alive everyone should help a bit. And cost should not always be paid by the owner of the forum, I am always prepared to help!
Back home from a weekend in Roskilde....
There has been a lot of discussions about the Alphaville-fanclubs this weekend (not only New Horizons) as Moonbase is changing the concept of their fanbase by stripping us of the word "official" because of legal problems. It is hard to know exactly what this will mean for the fanclubs but it will surely be a lot more difficult to be taken serious by fans when we are no longer official Alphaville fan clubs. This is still so new that we have no idea where it will take us and the discussions will probably last for some time still.
The way I see it there are both negatives and positives to be taken from this...the most positive thing for me is that the fanclubs will be able to decide themselves how to run their club. The most negative is of course that an unofficial fanclub will never be rated in the same way as an official fanclub.
So the whole discussion about the membershipfee is now pointless as there is no longer an issue with Moonbase about it.
To join the discussion about Headlines or no Headlines....
There were several reasons why we decided to change the concept of our fanclub to an internetbased one, but I will try to explain the most important reasons....
During the past 2 years the material sent in by fans became very limited. Joachim wanted to round off his envolvement with NH by a last issue of Headlines, but he had to admit that he didn't have enough material for a magazine....it was a also a period of very little news from Alphaville and these periods will always be there....and to make a magazine that's worth a membershipfee of app. 27 Euro which I think was the last fee, you really need a lot of material! I know that we probably could make small "Headlines" 3-4 times a year like in the beginning, but it would still be very hard to make each magazine interesting.
When you compare the amount of time and money you spend making a magazine to the amount of time and money you spend writing news in e-mails and on a webpage the difference is extremely big. And when you also take into consideration that you will receive the news at least a week and often months before when you use e-mails I consider snailmail obselete. I know that during the last 2 years there hasn't been much "visible" activity in New Horizons, but we have been "working behind the scenes" trying to make a fantastic internetbased fanclub....there's a lot to be considered when you change the whole concept of something! I hope that you will be patient just a little while longer.....I'm sure that you will like the new members area on alphaville.org !
Jonatan
19 Dec 2005, 13:51
Well spoken Poul!
Probably the last newsletter in 2005 has now been sent out. I really hope that I can remove a lot of the names in the list included in the e-mail really soon!!
Ok, we are still working on the details, but we will use this list for all New Horizons members: http://www.alphaville.org/forum/showgroups.php that will have access to a special section where we will offer unique info and files.
Tomorrow we will have a new page ready at www.alphaville.org (http://www.alphaville.org) about membership and payment - the price is 7 Euro a year, and you can already now pay using the forum - in your User CP > Paid Subscriptions or at the page tomorrow.
More info on the way...

Almost 30 people [dissapp]
Please....if anyone can help me with info on any of these persons then I would really appriciate it!!!
I am against putting people's e-mail adresses anywhere without them knowing about it, but as none of these persons have answered to several e-mails I have come to the conclusion that the adresses probably are wrong....and in that case it doesn't matter! My idea about writing the e-mail adresses is that some of you might notice that an e-mail adress is wrong! If you do please contact me by pm
Not being pessimistic or something, but maybe some of the people on the list just don't want to be a member anymore, that's why they haven't answered. Why bother answering something you aren't interested in?

@Krapplund: I agree...a meeting before a concert would be perfect!
We will launch the new members section tomorrow (Thursday) evening ! We are very excited to have finally arrived at this point as we really like this new concept! To begin with we will only have 2 forums "Download files" and "Fanclub news", but we might add more categories later on. One thing is for sure though....there will be a lot more videofiles as members also begin posting their files in the section! But to begin with we have 15 Alphaville-related videofiles ready for you to download tomorrow evening !
Willy & Poul
Yeah, and cool downloads too Poul e [wink], many I haven´t seen before.
As soon as www.alphaville.org (http://www.alphaville.org) is online (arghhhhh) - we´ll launch the new section.
Please note that 2006 is our test year for this new fanclub concept, so we do appreciate any comments/complains about this.
Thanks
The new fanclub section is now open! Happy downloading [smile2]
