Just received a call from a danish booker, apparently Alphaville will play in Sweden on 06 Nov 2004:

http://www.tinitus.com/

One of the most legendary synthpop acts from the 80's, the band behind enormous worldwide hits such as Big in Japan, Forever Young and Sounds Like a Melody are coming to Sweden with their 20th anniversary show! With an extensive discography, they prove that their brand of music and attitude is something that never go out of style. We can promise you an amazing gig, supported by fantastic visual show, and a seemingly endless parade of new romantic anthems.

We´ll try to get them to Copenhagen as well...stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed.

Kaz

so i won't be able to get in? :( think thyre gonna play somwehere else in sweden before they leave?

"DANGEROUS PLACES
Alphaville have just completed working on about 10 brandnew tunes for the upcoming album in London. Another 12 songs are almost roughly finished at the studio in Berlin.
The new album then can be expected sometime in 2005, Alphaville might play some of these songs already in the upcoming series of concerts this year."

So you guys might hear some new tunes there :P

No you won't get in (unless you look old enough and they don't check your ID) because of Swedish law. If they're serving alcohol they can not let you in if you're younger than 18, even if they want to.

I don't know. The tickets are sold out. I can't plan for that because I don't know what/where I'm at that time.
Except for Alphaville I want to see Fixmer/McCarthy too. And VNV Nation is good too. And A Split Second was good 10 years ago.
So it would be great to go. If I can and if I can get a ticket then I'll be there!

The crew of P3 Live are very good to record live-shows...they have recorded many concerts that after that have been a live-cd for many big artist and bands!!

Can anyone out there enlighten me about how to get to the venue from the Central Station in Stockholm???? ALso, are there any plans to get together before the show???? I'll be completely alone in the city, and if some New Horizons members (or other foreigners) find a way to meet a couple of hours before the festival, they will save me from both loneliness and the trouble of getting THERE :):):)

Tommie
19 Oct 2004, 14:24
Lady Bright
If you come to Stockholm early you don't have to go to the venue from the Central Station directly. It only takes about 15 minutes to go there.

Anyway, from the Central Station you have to walk to the subway station called T-Centralen. There you buy a ticket to Mariatorget (costs 30 swedish crowns). Then you take the red line that goes south to Fruängen, Norsborg or Liljeholmen. It's only three stations to Mariatorget (about 5 minutes). München-Bryggeriet lies just a few hundred meters from the subway station.

If the weather is okey I think you should walk instead. It's not far from the Central Station, about 2-3 km. Use a map.

I don't know if I can meet any fans before the show yet. I'm a football supporter and if Hammarby wins on thursday they will play the cup final 15:00 the same day as Alphaville and I have to go straight to the show after the game.

The blue (J) is the Central Station.
The (T) to the right of the (J) is T-Centralen.
The (T) a the bottom to the left is Mariatorget.
The big black, white and red dot is München-Bryggeriet

Hi Tommie,

I think we traded some AV rarities years and years ago :) Thanks for your help. I'm going to stay in Stockholm for several days close to the city center. Now that you've pointed me to the venue on the map, it will be easy to find it! Most probably I'll be staying on the opposite riverbank.

Do they sell 3-4 day tickets for all means of transportation in Stockholm, like they do in Helsinki??? There must be a way to save :)

Lady Bright
20 Oct 2004, 13:13
Also, does anyone know if the venue is of open air type?

They won't.

I am like Tommie a football fan, but even if my team who plays in the other semifinal tonight will be in the final I won´t probably attend it.

So instead I am open for proposals from those who will attend the festival, if we should meet somewhere before and go to München-Bryggeriet in joined forces.

And does anyone of you know if the other bands on the festival are good or not?

And my team made the cup final in football.

Tommie
21 Oct 2004, 14:18
I'm very excited to hear new songs live and of course to drink beer together with other fans! [beer]

Andreas & Jonatan - When I'm at the Tinitus festival I am there as an Alphaville fan. Nothing else. I don't care if you're black or white, religious or maybe a supporter of another team than me. But I don't think that you should wear any clothes with a team logo. It would be really stupid to walk around on Södermalm (Hammarby land) in dark blue/light blue or blue/white striped shirts. Like begging for trouble...

Shall I propose now or shall I propose later??? :):):) I suggest meeting somewhere in the center of the city (how about the Central Station?). I am still not really familiar with Stockholm, the only thing I know is that my hostel is not far from it (STF FRIDHEMSPLAN, Eriksgatan 20). I suggest getting in touch privately to discuss how and where to meet :)

As for other bands participating at the festival, I've only heard of VNV nation. Actually yesterday I downloaded their concert and listened to this band for the first time. To me their music sounds like the weakest stuff of Apoptygma Berzerk.... Please forgive me if I've hurt someone's feelings. It's just not my cup of tea. I prefer either pure synthpop or electropop.

By the way, am I the only foreigner coming to Stockholm to catch the last show of the 20th anniversary tour?!?!?!

Krapplund
21 Oct 2004, 21:15

Krapplund
22 Oct 2004, 01:35
@Joantan: soooooo are you joining Tinitus??????????

Andreas
22 Oct 2004, 10:32
To meet "all" people at the central station is a good idea! On the street level of the central station building is a round "hole" in the floor which local people call "Spottkoppen" (badly translated: "The spit cup"). But most people have not noticed that the fence around it is really nice with fun figures and symbols. So my proposal is that we meet somewhere around it. You can choose a direction (North - an Eskimo on the fence, South - a tribe member on the fence, West - an Indian on the fence and East - something I don´t remember on the fence)!
Could be really nice if as many as possible of you join this!!!

And sorry Tommy that your team missed the final. And congratulations Jonatan, I hope your team win Allsvenskan now so that DIF will have an UEFA-cup place no matter how the cupfinal ends.

We can arrange 2 fan meetings: the first one at around 16.00-16.30 at the central station (for those who don't have much to do and just want to have around and communicate with other fans), the other one later somewhere at the venue...... :)

Andreas
30 Oct 2004, 14:09

16.00-16.30 as well as later. So, people from Sweden, Denmark, Norway and the rest of Europe, when do you prefer to meet???

Lady Bright
31 Oct 2004, 16:04

Greetings from Stockholm!!!! I've had a long day walking around the city center, couldn't resist from looking at the venue.... I was amazed, it doesn't look anything like a concert hall - rather a classic opera theatre or something like that! And there is not a single word about Tinitus or Alphaville there..... Horrible!!!!

Anyway, I am in love with Stockholm, it's definitely one of my favourite places on Earth now, and I do hope to hang out with other Alphavillians tomorrow before the concert!!!

Let's agree on the following - those who will not make it to the Central Station, let's meet at the entrance of the venue at for instance 18.30. How about that?

Andreas
05 Nov 2004, 19:37

Martin Lister said that they won't play "Ways" and "Around the Universe" tonight. But they will have to cut more than those 2 from the setlist as they only play for 1 hour and I'm guessing that "Apollo" will be one more song they won't play....

I've heard "Ways" too many times live, and "Around The Universe" is still not among my faves, so I'm not complaining... But removing "Apollo" - that's not fair :( And the fact that they only play for one hour makes me think that we'll only get the "Greatest Hits" compilation :(:(:(

Great show!
Don't know about the beard, though...

Lady Bright
07 Nov 2004, 10:09
I must say, that was the weirdest AV concert in my whole life (and my 10th one, by the way). The band played in front of dark gothic audience, most of the people were so drunk they couldn't stand on their feet and kept on falling from side to side, they just didn't care who was playing as long as there was beer available...... Alphaville played for only an hour. However Marian was in a good mood (and a good physical shape!), I got used to the beard, and probably I will even find the time to write the detailed report when I'm back to Moscow :)

Lady Bright
07 Nov 2004, 10:10
About the removed songs: I noticed the absence of Ivory Tower, Ways, Around The Universe, Sweet Dreams....

poul e
07 Nov 2004, 10:30
What??? No "Sweet dreams" ???? That is BY FAR the best of the new songs!!!

maverick
07 Nov 2004, 10:57
I agree with Lady Bright. I don't think this was a typical AV audience. Though, I think they responded fair well to the songs and Marians engagement. At least Marian seemed to have fun. And we shure did have a greate hour. I really think the beard suits on Marian. The beard really changes he's look. And I must say that he looks younger.

Oh a show without "Sweet Dreams".... is missing the magic!

Andreas
08 Nov 2004, 09:31
And there was also no "I die for you today".

I totally agree with Lady Bright that this was the weirdest AV-show I have been to (and I have been to one more than her [eyebrows]). It´s very strange that AV was playing at such a festival. The rest of the "music" was simply terrible and one really felt wrongly dressed to look normal. It was also not too great that the show only was one hour (even if the extranumber "Apollo" was on "overtime").
The singing of Marian was though great except in "AVOL" and "Shadows she said" and he looked to be in the same good shape as in Berlin.
This was also the hardest concert I´ve been trying to stay on the 3rd/4th row and really have had to fight for it. There was really a big push all the time from behind. For example, one of the worst was the Swedish quite famous stand-up-comedian, Magnus Betnér, who had his chin on my shoulders during half a song while he was resting in his constant pushing.

Otherwise it was great (as usual) to meet YOU (read: the forum members I met) there!!!

Krapplund
08 Nov 2004, 13:19
It was a very good concert...badly you hade like Andreas said, FIGHT FOR YOU PLACE!! I jelled at one man that just hade to move forward the stage...but he got calm after that...(I was a bit angry hehehe). But during the last 4-5 songs it was no problem to stand still...looked like the moste need a new beer or something hehehe....but in the front of the show there was´nt many that was drunk like a crazy...but maybe at you place LadyBright [wink]

Anyway....this show was my 11th...so say HURRAY!!!

Badly I could´nt live out my feelings during A VICTORY OF LOVE!! Sadly..

Subzerock
08 Nov 2004, 20:30
True: not typical AV-audience. Not hearing I Die For You Today was the biggest disappointment for me. Also Sweet Dreams would have been great. Personally I don't like too much the older songs like Jet Set, In the Mood etc. at least compared to <3:ly First Monday, Ways, Still falls the Rain and so many beautiful songs that the super-cyber audience wouldn't have appreciated.

My Very blood sounded as good as in Berlin so did Shadows She Said-which I love. Can't wait to the new album! Though the place and people were quite rude/drunk/strange seeing Marian & c.o so happy & with lots of positive energy was and always is definitely worth it.

08 Nov 2004, 21:25
I'm home again.

I'm happy with the concert, but disapointed with the rest of the festival.
The show was great, as usual, but it was too crowded, it took me like one hour to get to the front row (but I did get there...:P)

The other music played were great, love the style. And the people were great aswell, with some exceptions. A nice little afterparty with some nice people gave the night a perfect end. :)

I really enjoyed the show.
I was standing in the background so I had a good time without fighting.
I had a really great time and meet some friends :)

I miss Tinitus already.

I do agree that the event was well worth all the troubles!!! I only regret that we stood too close to the stage and had to fight for our place (even though Andreas and Krapplund stood even closer and had to fight even harder), but anyway... the whole thing in general was amazingly good :) I'd like to thank Andreas and Christina Fogborn for the extremely fun conversations before and after the concert, and huuuuuge thanks to Stefi for letting us participate (in a way) in selling Alphaville merchandise, I did feel strangely related to the band through that :):):)

As most of you already stated, the concert was great but too short, the audience was not the typical AV audience, but they seemed to like it anyway and Marian looked great in a beard ;) It was really nice meeting both old and new friends and be a part of this wonder called Alphaville. I had some personal grief at the time as my grandfather passed away the day before the concert, but the night really helped me through my sorrow and a big thanks to all of you who made this night another night to remember.

From what I've heard, the audience wasn't satisfied with the show at all. :(
But I don't care, I liked it. :P

Fredrik, my thoughts are with you.

SLAM and Avil: Thanks for your thoughts!

Regarding the concert, a large part of the audience had of course another taste in music, but I heard a few people who wasn't there for Alphaville, saying that they liked it a lot and that AV could have played a longer set instead of one of the other bands. Under the circumstances I think the audience liked the concert more than I had thought they would... But as you say, why care about what other people think, I loved it!!!

The reporter of DN has written a book about hip hop and looks like an idiot (and probably also is), so nothing else could be expected from there...

The reporter of Metica is (unfortunately) a friend of mine, but I could not influence him to write a positive article. Metica has though not so many readers, so I guess it doesn´t matter so much what they write...

I don't know the order of the song, but it might be something like this:

Hurricane
A victory of love
Shadows she said
Summer in Berlin
Sounds like a melody
Sweet dreams (?????????)
Jet Set
Monkey in the moon
Jerusalem
Big in Japan
In the mood
Forever Young
Apollo

My very blood instead of Sweet dreams. Otherwise the list looks OK.

Take a look here what the people from the site www.metica.se think about the music year 2004. (sorry for the swedish)

"Sämsta konserter:
Alphaville, Tinitus, Münchenbryggeriet i Stockholm."

"Årets överraskning:
Att den smått överviktiga mannen i glansig skjorta som uppenbarade sig på scenen på Tinitusfestivalen den 6 november och sjöng 'Forever Young' och 'Sounds like a Melody' verkligen var Marian Gold i Alphaville - min stora idol från svunna tider. Vad jag hade önskat att få se dem innan det slutade så här."

"Årets besvikelser:
Alphaville på Tinitus var ett skämt."

"Minst gillade artisterna bland redaktionen tycks i år vara
1. Alphaville (live)"

I was actually there too! Didn't know the reviews were that bad. I did remember though, that some of the audience started shouted and complaining whenever a new song was played.

Well, then obviously he didn't know that they never played live during their heyday. And what the f*** does his weight has anything to do with the music performed? What a pathetic reviewer.

Yeah, but considering the fact that some fans travel to AV i think that screaming would be typical.

Screaming fans are very very ok.
The Tinitus-audience were pushing and making agressive movements all the time during the concert. So it was the fighting you had to concentrate about, not Marians performance. And that pissed me of.

Oh yeah, that of course. Luckily (?) I was in the back. I thought the crowd was pretty crazy at Cinderella '07 too, I really had to fight to not be pushed to the ground! I had a good spot at first, but then came this b***h who dragged me away and used her bag to block me from reaching my original position. It was wild.

Trond
27 Oct 2008, 10:30
Agree. Cinderella was also crowdy. But this time the audience were Alphaville-fans and the went crazy because of happiness. So that was quite ok.

Lisa

To see anything at all I always use to be in front (sooner or later during the concerts). At the Tinitus concert i started somewhere in the middle, and that was one of the most stupid things I've done I guess. After a lot of "fighting" to get in front I finally managed to get there when there were 2-3 songs left.
I guess all people are more or less ruthless at concerts - everyone wants to be in front, and this does really not make it easier for shorties like me.

Leningrad
27 Oct 2008, 19:46
In every fan concert you go to fans always go nuts when they see thier favourite bands. Screaming in an AV concert would be typical, i would scream i would see AV for the first time. im sure that fans would scream a lot harder in a heavy metal concert than a synthpop convert though.

It looks like you know much about being on Alphaville-concerts???
And still you haven´t been on one concert??
How can you know how the fans would/should act??

On Tinitus there were 30 fans from New Horizone.
The rest of the audience only wanted to act like hooligans.
They gave a damn about Alphaville. So therefor it was not so pleasant to be on Tinitus.
"Fans going nuts when they see their favourite band"
Well - that was not the reason on that concert.

But anyhow and anyway, we had a wonderful weekend in Stockholm!!
