View Full Version : FANS ONLY TOPIC!: Should we give AV a party gift?
I've been wondering.....2 years ago we gave Marian & Bernhard a folder with stuff made by fans for them. What about this time..?? I think we should give them (or just Marian) some kind of anniversary present, but I just don't know what...
We can use this topic to discuss what (if anything) we could present to them at the party. Hopefully noone from Moonbase will read this topic and tell Marian what we figure out then!!
The only idea I have so far is giving Marian (and perhaps also Bernhard) 1 of the t-shirts we probably will have made for the party....

A few lines from all of us that will be printed and given to Marian and in my opinion we should give one also to Bernd.
@Kaz: I think you should write your idea here. Even if Moonbase should see this topic I don't think Marian will be told about it! I think we should bring all ideas out in the open and try and agree what the gift(s) should be....

It would be nice if every fan got some space on a big card to say something to Alphaville, just a few words each.
My idea was like this. You know when teachers leave and the class makes them a huge card and all sign it? Well I thought about making a huge card and then getting all the fans from the world over to send a pic of themselves and sign it with a message for Marian and/or Bernhard. Don't know how this would work now as we don't have a lot of time to organise it all but what do you think?

Berlin is wonderful and the weather has been fantastic until tonight. Went on the demo today and walked for ages. Just trying now to type on this damn German keyboard without making any mistakes [wink]

It was originally my thought that it should be a topic about a gift for Marian/AV.....but the thread seem to have moved in a different direction...[disappro]
About presents for other former/current AV members I see it like this....Marian is the number 1 priority because he is the only official member of the band during all 20 years! Bernhard is the number 2 priority because he's been an official member for more than 15 years. If we give presents to more than Marian & Bernhard there's a few people to consider including Ricky, Frank, Martin & Claudia. IMO it would be weird to give something to Martin and nothing to Ricky (and the opposite). I think we should start out with Marian and then see where it goes....

@alpha-X: Like I said....there's a few people to consider....I just mentioned 4 of them. I think it's hard to draw a line if you don't do it at Marian or Bernhard!!

OK. than we'll think about Marian, Bernd and later about the other guys...
We got enough time.
I prefer that idea with the big postcard, or better to say poster...with a small photo of every fan and his/her name and city and a short comment about alphaville-feelings, we could give it away in a frame to marian, perhaps we could print more posters, also for the fans, could be a real cool souvenir.
I want something were marian is able to see how many we are, and in how many parts of the world we love the music
I like this idea with card of our photos....
To "sum up" the ideas so far...
1. Fan t-shirt
2. Pictures of each fan with a short comment
3. Poster with small pictures of each fan with a short comment
4. Thank you cards for "other AV related people"
Here's some ideas of how to make these suggestions work:
The pictures can be put in some sort of book/folder with room for a short comment next to the picture
Small pictures could be put on a poster map of the world so Marian can see where we are from (this would be a lot harder to make than the book/folder!)
Other ideas:
We get a fanpicture taken (with a digital camara) Saturday morning in Berlin and get it printed out (at least A4 size) in a photoshop, we all sign it and then put it into a frame. If it's not too expensive we can easily make more (perhaps not framed) of these so Bernhard, Ricky, Martin, Shane, Frank, Claudia, Daniela etc each get a copy...
It will probably be hard to do but we could also sing a song or more (big choir!) and somehow get it recorded and put on a CDR. I don't know how to do this in Berlin though....
An alternative way to do this would be to somehow arrange with Claudia that we take the stage at the party and sing a song for AV (could be "Forever fans" that we wrote in 2002). 50-100 fans taking the stage and singing for Alphaville will probably be a great surprise for them!
And remember....we can give them more than just 1 gift!! [smile]

My idea was originally to have a book made out of our pics. If all the fanclub leaders got involved and got fans to send in their pics by a given date, it's not so hard to achieve really. Then someone in Berlin can make the frame of the book/card and we can all get our pics into it before the party (that wouldn't take long, esp. if we gave a deadline for all pics to be in). Really it's a matter of good communication and organisation...(can you tell who's a Virgo here?? [laugh])
I think the idea would work. It would be nice to do.

I had my own idea of a gift, I wanted to get a famous singer on stage in the party, which has a kind of connection to BIJ, but all Claudia said was Marian dont like surprises and no duets. So this idea had died before it was born...

About "Forever fans"....IF we were to sing it we would have to ask Claudia for permission anyway so she could tell us if it is a bad idea!! It would be so cool to have all forummembers and fanclubmembers from around the world get up on the stage and sing for Alphaville....regardless which song it is!!!
Would we have permission to use the music anyway?
do we need music if we are 100 voices??? But if we needed music perhaps Martin would play a little on the synths to help us out???
By music I mean using the melody.
Oh ok...sorry.....I don't know....for an event like this it should be possible....it's not like we are releasing it as a single!!!
It'd still be a public performance though and, as such, would be subject to copyright issues I would imagine.

@Malila: Who do you consider bandmembers?? If we are to give former and current it's gonna be at least 5 t-shirts which is pretty expensive and will make the price go further up for the fans as I don't want to pay those t-shirts all on my own!!

Exactly Malila. The card and pics idea has more sentiment and feeling in it I think and it might mean a lot more.
As for the t-shirts....Moonbase is getting a shirt regardless as that's the deal with "AV merchandise". Last time I sent them 2 t-shirts as they never received the first package....
So we might just as well give one to Marian (at least) at the party....
I also think it is a great idea to give Marian something personal from us fans and a photo with a few words is a great idea because everyone can join in....last time it was just those fans who felt they could contribute with something who made something for the folder....
I still think it would also be a great idea to get a groupphoto taken at the hostel Saturday morning and get it printed out at a photoshop right after (of course in great quality), get the picture framed and present it to Marian at the party. Like I said earlier it would be great to give more than just 1 gift!!

This topic has more or less died. I think we need to keep it alive if we are to make this work. We need to discuss what we can give AV/Marian in order to find the perfect idea(s)!!
I think we need to discuss that card with photos thing... after all time is flying fast. If we really want to do it we should start it soon, shouldn't we?

Yes I agree! It will take some time to set this up so it's best to do it before we go to Berlin! We can still also take a groupphoto at the hostel and get that printed and framed....

If we can set a deadline for everyone to have their pics in by, they can all be sent to someone (probably me via the UK fanclub) and then I can bring them to Berlin with me, since I'll be here 2 weeks before everyone else. Then I can make the card/book and stick everyone's pics in in some order. What do you think?

I think that more fans will send their pics if it's also possible to send digital pics by e-mail...
Were you also thinking about having the fans writing a few words next to their picture or just write who they are and where they are from and what their favourite AV-album and song is??
Yeah, to get everyone who wants to write a message and/or sign their pic to make it more personal would be great. It wouldn't take too long to get everyone who wants to get a pic of themselves, sign it with a message and send it to their respective fan clubs and then for the fan clubs to send them all to me. Then I could just keep them all together and do the putting together part in Berlin so that the card/book doesn't get bent or ruined through being transported from somewhere else.
How about you put the pictures into the book with a short text next to it and then those who want to can sign their picture in Berlin??
Would be more difficult to organise since people will be all over the place at different times. Also thinking about the fans that won't be able to make it to Berlin. I think it's better to have all that done beforehand to take a lot of work out of it from chasing people up.
OK....it's up to you Kaz....I'm just glad that we got this discussion going again as we need to start soon if we are to get it done in time. Last time the foldergift ended up in panic in the very last minute!! I really don't want to try that again!!!
I think we need to do it by emailing the fanclub leaders and getting them motivated soon. We need to keep it as secret as possible for it to be a surprise. Any fanclub leaders here have any thoughts on it?
The book reminds me of the thing we did in school once. We made presents for each other for some celebration. We wrote our wishes to each other on the paper (10x15cm) and them put those wishes into a photoalbum... wasn't bad [smile]
Though with AV the scale is different.
Yeah....let's get more fans into this discussion!! It shouldn't be just between a handful of fans!!
It would be fantastic to give these gifts:
1. Book with pictures of fans with a short text
2. Framed picture of fans getting ready for the party
3. An anniversary t-shirt
4. An anniversary song that we sing for AV

I'll email the fan club leaders individually as requested. So we're asking for a photo, and a few words from each fan? (whether or not they'll be in Berlin) I'll put a link to this topic in there too.

None yet. The idea is that the fanclubs collect all the pics in by the end of June and then send them all to me or Clare then so we can make the card/book up with them. This way it's more organised and there is less risk of pics being lost.

I haven't heard anything from anyone about the pics that were to be sent. Does indeed look like the idea has died a death...
I've heard some wishes to take part in it here in Russia. But we agreed that I will take the pics with me if people really decide to show up themselves. But haven't heard anything about it since then...
I guess it's a question to fanclub leaders anyway...

I still also think it's a great idea to sing a song (or 2) for Alphaville on this special day, but the problem is that we would have to rehearse first. Maybe we should just wait until we get there and then we can try to get together and talk about it/rehearse....
I know that Kaz and Clare already have some photos, and they will be used....
So....is it still possible to get a photo in this book if I bring along a photo to Berlin or is it too late??
I can tell you that Marian & Bernhard both will receive an anniversary t-shirt as a gift as that has been calculated into the costs of the shirts! So there will at least be those gifts for Alphaville....

I have 3 or 4 photos from German fans. As my printer isn't working, I can't even print my own photo.
If I get some pics in Berlin, I'll do something, so any contributions still welcome.
Did this project ever happen? Was something presented to Marian in Tipi??
