well, well.........I want to say.....BLONDIE !! Why not !!! or Patsy Kensit !!
@DDISON
I´m not sure I would like it very much, but if I have to name someone it would be Belinda Carlisle, Maggie Reilly or perhaps the lead singer of The Coors. Certainly not half-opera singers like Whitney Houston or Celine Dion!!
NOOO!!Not Celine or Barbara!Juck.

Why not Björk! That would be very interesting.

Wonder how a duett would sound with Marian and Henrik (the singer) from Code 64????
A up-tempo synth melody.....I think it would sound cool

Axel Rudi Pell on the Classic Rock Concert in July somewhere in Germany (look for "the Hooters" Show on eventim.de
Now since I heard the comeback-album of the B-52's, which predictably is completely crap, I had two
associations: 1. To be the manager of Kate Pierson (the very unique female singer, who also joined Iggy Pop by "Candy" or REM's "Shiny Happy People") must be big fun, for certainly any honourable
musician in this world would like to work with her.
2. A duet of KP and MG would make my day.

So, it's gotta be a female vocalist, huh?
Take your pick out of these:
Alison Moyet
Shakira (Drool Alert!)
Deborah Harry
Loreena McKennitt
Sarah Brightman
Ofra Haza
???

What about Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac, their voices would blend well and together I they would have great stage presence.

Coming back to topic: I would agree that the voices of Marian and Shakira never would work together. A classic voice like Sarah Brightman would fit best, but frankly I prefer the "pure" Marian.

I don't think Stevie Nicks voice works well with Marian either....... a truly unique voice that I just dont think Marian would complement.
I vote for Alison Moyet - that would be fantastic !
russharvey
17 Apr 2008, 21:20
only way a duet with Shakira would really work......... is if she danced and he sang.......
My choice goes to the female singer of Go! (WHTC -Soul Messiah) - let's give every talent a chance ! Her voice sometimes helps me to wake me up when driving out to the office in the morning.
Loralai
17 Apr 2008, 22:11
ariAna, I believe you are right in saying Sarah Brightman would be the best complement to Marian. Her range and clarity would accentuate Marians voice rather than meld into it as would Stevie Nicks' and Marians voice would remain audibly unaltered. So.....how can we make this dream come true?
russharvey, I am trying to visualize the stage presence that Marian and Shakira would project. As long as she belly danced and he sang and interacted with her in some way it could be another memorable duet like Mick Jagger and Tina Turner. With the right lyrics, music and choreography there could a great performance. It would be a new experience.

@ ariAna: Thank you. [smile2]
Repeating myself for the case of someone’s minimal attention:
A duet of Kate Pierson (B-52's) and MG would make my day.
Further, since that neverpassing guy was mentioned, MG and Mick Jagger could be fun too. [smile2]

russharvey when you say, "just don't let Marian dance" does that mean he can dance or can not dance well or are you implying our boy has no moves at all? I have not been to any concerts yet so I do not know this yet I have never seen any promising moves from the videos.
When I first read about Shakira as a prospective singing partner for Marian I could not help but visualize what they would be like together on stage. I am having a recurring "daymare" about Shakira and Marian in performance and she is dancing about and teaching him some basic shimmies and hip work - and he is going to do some basic belly dance moves. The thought of this is very disturbing to me and to quote Tommy Lee, "that has wrong sauce over it".

I would vote as a duet -partner for Eric Bazilian of "The Hooters", also a great 80es Band and reunited in 2006. Or Klaus Meine form the Scorpions, this Band which was Big in Japan

Loralai, I am NOT implying our boy has no moves....... I AM saying he has NO moves!! LOL! Marian has plenty of passion on stage and he really gets into the performance, but most of the time he looks quite awkward doing so.
[QUOTE=Loralai;146456]russharvey when you say, "just don't let Marian dance" does that mean he can dance or can not dance well or are you implying our boy has no moves at all? I have not been to any concerts yet so I do not know this yet I have never seen any promising moves from the videos.

Marian has so much passion that you can see he sings from his feet and appears very grounded. There must be some moves in him somewhere because with synth pop music a body just has to move with the music.
The "daymare" is worsening now, maybe Shakira is the one to teach him some moves.
No, No, No.....If he can get himself to New York my friends dance instructor could help him as she is one of the best Egyptian dancers in the world. I have seen her perform and the commands you with her moves and energy. Only the very best dance instruction for Marian. The "daymare' is leaving me.
As for dancing: Disagreed. I remember MG in '99, his slim electro period, dancing wildly and running
from stage left to stage right and back and hitting Shane Meehan's cymbals, grinning all the time and
doing a crazy show full of energy. That was amazing and totally appropriate to the kind of sound they
did that time - not any awkward at all.
Of course, even then he didn't do any efforts to move the way Shakira, Britney or any other - sorry - plastic doll does. It rather looked natural and that's good.
It's still a pity, after he became more fat again, that he mostly stands behind the microphone like a statue.
russharvey
18 Apr 2008, 19:17
yes, JaJaJa that was the energy and passion I was speaking about but I would ask you to watch the Little America DVD again - that energy does not translate into smooth natural dance moves on stage - it is exactly as you state, more wild, thrashing of arms and legs and stomping of feet and not always in harmony with the beat...... and for the record, it doesn't look natural to me. He has always looked a little forced on stage to me unless of course he is a statue with the mic....... but then again, it is his voice that makes the show, not his stage presence.
@ Russ: I was talking on a gig I had seen in '99 (Machern, near Leipzig), not about the DVD. And, although I have no evidence, that was in harmony with the beat and the whole situation - just a perfect wild show.
Little America comparedly is completely out of mischief - as for his motion.
I agree about the voice. But I generally love it when you can tell by an artist on stage that he/she
is totally wrapped up in his/her music and the power it transports live. And his way to move was exactly
what showed this.
As you can see in the Which artists have you seen live?-topic: I have seen many, many concerts of
many artists, but this one was a very special and important one, also for me personally. It is rare to see someone having such an enthusiasm on stage. But actually this is what makes a good show: Total passion and adrenaline.
There is already far too much half-hearted stuff in music around.

There is already far too much half-hearted stuff in music around.
And that's true... sadly.
Although the duets are not bad, Marian voice is still the important thing to me.

18 Apr 2008, 22:45
@JaJaJa well, the dvd and show in SLC that I saw live was also in 99....... I do appreciate his energy and enthusiasm, but I guess I just don't like the way he moves on stage. Maybe its just me.
Back to the topic..... Sarah Brightman duet with Marian....... good choice.
You know, Gabi Becker does a great job I think with Marian, but have you noticed they don't do much harmony together in their duets.... its mostly you sing, I sing, you sing, I sing....... nothing truly together......
I wonder why Marian hates duets so much? Anybody ask him why or was this discussed earlier in this topic?
Loralai
19 Apr 2008, 01:20
Maybe Marian has developed arthritis or a joint problem and he just can not move like he used to - we all are not getting any younger. And if he something like this he needs a lesson or two from my friends dance instructor to learn how to loosen the hips and other joints etc. He will just feel better, increase his lung capacity that is very important for singing and have more energy/stamina so he will be able to dance the night away to the beat of the music. Something to consider. Back to the topic of "the voice".
He never could dance. He's always moved like he's having some abonormal muscle contractions. His age has nothing to do with it.
Foolship1077
21 Apr 2008, 07:41
I'm sure any moves he may have tried were fun to watch, though...
Back to the topic:
Geez, how could I have forgotten Sarah McLaughlin? Her voice seems to be just as effective.
Or maybe Annie Lennox? Another great singer, but one can only guess how she'd appear on stage with him.

After finally listening to Templehof with it's over production of the music and manipulation of Marian's voice, the perfect duet would be with Britney Spears. And I initially thought singing with Shakira would be bad. HA!
I can picture the performance with Britney and Marian singing on stage and she has her python trained to slither around him constricting him from singing in the end. Now if that is not deeply symbolic of Eve taking Adam out of the Garden...the only thing missing from this picture is the apple. Maybe the snake ate it as an appetizer.
Templehof is only an experiment.....that blew out the windows of the Dreamroom.
Wouldn't Britney need a new husband?

Honestly, I never liked Taja's voice. That's why I never liked Nightwish. Now with Anette they are much better. Even though I don't think Anette's voice would match Marian's better.

I do respect Tarja, and like her a lot. However, although it's true that she has sung with other people, it's the same someone told here about Marian: it's rather "you sing your part and I sing mine" and never really a duet. Besides, she always sings with someone whose voice isn't any interesting by itself, so hers can be showed off.
