View Full Version : Hooters
Have you heard the original version of the Ricky Martin song "Private Emotion"? One of my favourite bands Hooters made it, and it´s much better than the Ricky Martin version! Other great Hooters songs include "Boys will be boys" with Cyndi Lauper, Satellite, "Karla with a K" and "Johnny B".

Sorry, but Ricky Martin made a cover of the Hooters Song and he made a great job, it was much more popular than the Hooters Private Emotion or the german translation by themselves in Coopertion with "Deutsche Bahn": Heimliche Sehnsucht.
Did you know, that Hooters and Cyndi Lauper before were one band, the blue angels. They had no success, so they splitted in friendship and they became famous.
Bernd
Of course it was much more popular! It was released by Ricky Martin! He is "a bit" more popular than Hooters ever were. What do you think would happen if Backstreet Boys (or some other chart topping band) released "Forever young"???!!!
I don´t want to think of BSB doing FY...They would destroy it...
I´m your best friend-the dream
They would destroy it in our eyes, but it would still be a massive hit!
In our eyes mayby..Oh,I really hope that BSB wont do any cover on FY...or any other AV-song...

you just struck fear in my heart...lets not even consider it!
The future exists, first in Imagination, then in Will, then in Reality.
I´m sorry I scared you, but I am sure BSB will never make a cover version of any Alphaville-song. They probably don´t even know who Alphaville are!!
*crying* BSB don´t know AV? That´s too bad...for them...Muhahahaa!!!
I´m your best friend-the dream
Ladies, This is not funny !
We have seen A-HA's Take On Me being POORLY
covered by a what-da-hell-was-that-boys-group
I simply can't understand this cover :
You can not perform better than A-HA.
You can not create a better video clip.
So why god? why ?
I'm in the mood to
touch the fire .
Why why??So many questions and no answers...
I think A1 did a quite good cover of Take on me...But a bit childish maybe...
I´m your best friend-the dream
To think of BSB doing FY is a bit horrifying to say the least, but I bet it would be much better than And One's version of BIJ *Cringes while his ears bleed*
Please do not compare And One to the BSB .
and we know that we know what we know
is it truth?
Pleeeaaase, stop talking about BSB doing a AV-song...*uäääck*
*I´m your best friend-the dream*
Avil is right ! Why do we mention BSB

Does anybody know, if there ever will be a new Hooters CD? Or did they split up?
It´s so long ago, that they released an album...
I know that the lead singer Eric Bazilian has released a CD (The Optimist) on his website, and a couple of years ago some of the former Hooters members released a project called "Largo". I have it and I don´t like it very much.
There are rumours now and again about Hooters making a come back but as of yet nothing certain as far as I know. Maybe "Bernd/cassiel" knows more than me?

They wanted to reunite on a concert in Mainz in summer 2001, but the concert was canceled for no reason.
Only Eric Bazilian make some great music, check out his official site or at mp3.com
rumours still say that they reunite, there were some small US-only concerts in the past month

Did you know that N'Sync has a song called Forever Young on one of their albums? Of course, I had to download it just to hear it, and not to worry, it isn't a cover of our beloved FY.... but it has the same name - strange don't you think?

back to the Hooters.... didn't they have a song called 'and we danced'?
***This life is expensive, but at least it comes with a free trip around the sun!***
Yes they did. From their debut album "Nervous night".

Wasnīt it the hooters that made 500 miles?

No, I think 500 Miles was by the Proclaimers

THe original 500 miles are first sung by Peter, Paul and Mary, who also sung in the hooters song (as far as I remember)
Bernd
Just stumbled across this thread.
I loved the Hooters in the 80s and bought 'One Way Home' and 'Nervous Night'. I thought 'Satellite' was good until I listened to these albums - the music is fantastic!
*will have to dig out the turntable and the old vinyl again now*
Got to listen to song "And We Danced"... I guess one song isn't enough to judge the band but I liked it. [smile2]
@ Alien: try "Give The Music Back" ... it's great ...
@Alien: I recommend songs like "Private Emotion", "Where do the children go", "All you Zombies", "Hanging on a heartbeat", "Satellite" & "Karla with a K".
I also strongly recommend "Time after time" from Cyndi Lauper which was co-written with Rob Hyman from Hooters!
I love "Time after time"!!!!!
others I'll try if I manage to download them at work [smile2]
And We Danced is one of my faves - I love most of the two albums anyway.
@Kaz: Which 2 albums? The first 2 "Nervous night" & "One way home"? They made 4 studio albums (also "Out of body" & "Zig Zag")+ a live album and a couple of "best of" albums as well....
Yeah the first two. I already said in an earlier post that they were the ones I'd bought in the 80s (about 1987).
OK. Sorry for not paying attention :-(
Have you heard the songs from the other 2 albums? If not then you should try "Boys will be boys", "Private emotion", "Brother don't you walk away", "Give the music back", "Beat up guitar" & "Always a place".
@ Poul_e
Is that 'Private Emotion' the one that Ricky Martin covered?
No, I've not heard anything after those two albums - to be honest, after those two albums, The Hooters faded away in the UK so I didn't know there were any more (bit of an Alphaville syndrome really).
Yes Hooters made the original "Private Emotion". For me the original has much more "soul" than the Ricky Martin version! It's one of my favourite Hooters songs!

@poul
Did you know, that the Hooters recorded a german version of Private Emotion, called "Heimliche Sehnsucht"? It was released as Maxi-CD and I have it. [smile]
@Roland: I know that they made a German version, but I've never heard it. To be honest I don't think I'm gonna like it if I heard it anyway...

So you donīt like german?? [wink]
You are right, it sounds a bit strange, to hear them sing in german with their accent, but somehow it is fun.
Still I do prefer the english version, which is really great.
An interesting fact for me is, that the translation has been done by one of my favourite german artists, so I just had to buy this CD.
Well... I've downloaded some songs - All You Zombies, Where Do The Children Go, Satellite and Karla With A K.
I like them. But I like And We Danced more [smile2]
@Alien: Try "Day by day". I'm sure you'll love the synthstart on that one!
@Roland: You are right. I'm in general not too crazy about songs sung in German. And it doesn't make it any better when it's done to one of my favourite songs of all time and not even sung by "real" Germans. I also dislike songs sung in English with much accent.

@Alien: Yes, "And we danced" is a fantastic song. With this one it all started for me. I heard it on the radio and loved it immediately, so I went to the local record store and bought the LP, which is still one of my all time favourite albums. The other albums are also great, but "Nervous Night" is my favourite.
@poul: My opinion about german songs in general is of course quite the opposite. No surprise, hmm? [smile]
But in this case I agree with you. Itīs funny, to hear this song in german, but not more.
YEAH! They had I concert in my hometown bonn in June 2003 whilst their 25th anniversairy tour through germany. It was such a great concert. And Eric Bazilian was singing "Heimliche Sehnsucht" (Private Emotion in german!) @poul @ roland: without any major accent*g* It was nearly as cool as Marian singing german. Here a few things about the HOOTERS that might help you:
DISCOGRAPHY (version 1.1 [laugh])
*1983, Amore (was only released on Vinyl and therefore often not noticed as an album, for the tour released as a CD, great!)
*1985, Nervous Night (with some songs from Amore but other versions)
*1987, One Way Home
*1989, Zig Zag
*1993, Out Of Body
*1994, Hooters Live
*1997(?), Hooterization (Best Of)
*1998, Simply The Best - The Hooters (Best Of)
*1998, Live In Germany
The number of sold records decreased constantly and so they stopped recording (as far as I know). Beside their hits, they wrote songs for Ricky Martin, Joan Osborne (remember "One Of Us"?), Sophie B. Hawkins and Cyndi Lauper. The Proclaimer's "500 Miles" and the Hooters' version are completly different songs. Perhaps I can find out something more...
@Dustin: Has "Amore" been officially released in Germany on CD now?? I don't have it, but I'd certainly like to!!
I didn't know that they released a "Live in Germany" CD. I only have "Hooters live" from 1994 which was recorded in USA. To the list of CDs you can add a couple of "Best of" CDs. I have the one called "Hooterization: A retrospective" myself...
@ poul: You're right, I missed a lot of Best-Of's. They sell AMORE after the gigs they play. If you're lucky you can gather one at ebay or else you have to wait till the Hooters come to Denmark...
Cassiel

nobody has to wait, all can order under the official site www.thehooters.net in the merchandise-corner shirt and Amore-CD in US $,
Bernd
@Dustin: Hooterization is from 1996. Is "Amore" worth the $12 + shipping?? I've heard that it isn't especially good...
I downloaded "Day by Day". it really has great synthstart!
@poul: It contains "All You Zombies", "Blood From A Stone", "Fighting On The Same Side" and "Hanging On A Heartbeat" from other releases but these are earlier versions. I can't really tell you whether to buy the CD or not since I don't like most of the other songs but i'd like to make you buy a Hooter-CD *g* I love the Live-Version of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds". And I like it even better than the Beatles-Version. If you have to watch your money and you are not a big Hooters-Fan I'd recommend not to buy the CD. Uh, it's very difficult. *g*
@Dustin: Lucy in the sky with diamonds is on "Hooterization" so I already got it [smile]

Sandra and "All You Zoombies" are great
Once again Hooters have proven that they can make great music. The first time I listened to the songs on the new album "Time stand still" I only liked "I'm alive" and thought that I would never get to like more than 2 or perhaps 3 more songs on the album. But now after I have given the songs a fair chance (listen to them at least 10 times) I find myself liking all songs except "White jeans". The most "weird" song on the album "Morning buzz" is now one of my absolute favourites. My wife and daughter also really like the album now. So if you are into "the Hooters sound" please give the songs a fair chance.....you will not regret it!!!

well to tell u the truth everyone gets addicted to it after listening 10 times to it, this is so devilish [devil] but gooood [headpho]
Oh yeah, I forgot about the Hooters...great choice. This reminds me of the time when the Cars were big. The unfortunate part is that if I want to dig out and listen to them, I'd have to "dust off" a cassette. I need to get something to transfer cassettes to a CD...I digress....
